I'm actually surprised to see all the bad reviews on these. I have several and while their shortcomings - well documented here - are very real...I've found them to be absolutely fantastic for what you CAN do with them.

It's true: you can't use these on acoustics unless they've got "standard" strap buttons - the same ones on most electrics. The strap will NOT hold on to the button that accommodates a 1/4" instrument cable plug-in.

I can TOTALLY see how these would mar a guitar's finish via abrasion of the hard plastic ends...the solution of gluing felt on the inside sounds like it'd be effective, but shouldn't be necessary. Mfg'r should address this problem.
That said - I've been using these on my Ibanez RG electric since the early days of electricity, and it hasn't put a mark on it. And it has NEVER failed or dropped my git'r.
Mine - clearly older ones - also have a very nice wide pad on the strap that feels much better over my shoulder than would a bare 2" webbing strap.

Planet Waves does it again! These are awesome straps and they do just what they're supposed to. Never had any problems with mine onstage and my band (Cloud City) and get a little crazy.. it holds up to the abuse. I gave 4.5 because they feel a little rough and rub my neck sometimes. Overall a great strap!

The design is very functional. Feels that the guitar hangs safe around the neck. The big con is that the padded side of the locking mechanism facing the guitar has marred the surface of the guitar. I have discontinued its use.

Failed during a studio session and unfortunately my guitar fell onto hardwood floor. Luckily my input jack and Sammy bar took most of the fall. Spend a little extra money and get something different.

I purchased three strap locks, one for an acoustic guitar and two for bass guitars ( a Sterling Sub Ray and a Musicman Stringray.

The strap lock on the acoustic is still going strong. All are simple and quick to put in place.

However - the strip of plastic that connects the fabric to the plastic end section of the strap snapped during a performance and I almost dropped my bass. Replaced it with the spare and within three months, that snapped also, in the same place.

I would strongly advise against using these straps on solid basses with a bit of weight.
