Reviews

I might of ruined my other guitars
I wanted new tuning machines for my Gretsch G2215. Tuning stability wasn't great, and the stock ones were lackluster. I bought these because I like other D'Addario products, and I'm definitely not disappointed. It's so quick to change strings, and so far the are holding a better tune.

Love these!
Grabbed a set of these for my Gretsch g5220 Jet. Installation was simple. Changing strings is a breeze, not only is the auto trim feature cool for just trimming excess string as you tune, it trims it foush with the peg so there's no pointy end sticking out. Definitely would get more if I need to upgrade tuners on amything in the future.
Love these tuners!
I just picked up a Gretsch Junior Jet and was looking to upgrade to some locking tuners. I have had tried several brands and thought I would try something different so I went with D'Addario auto trims and I couldn't be happier. They were a perfect drop in, screw hole and all so no mods needed and the locking screw and trim function feel great and work perfectly. I will be getting these for any future tuning machine upgrades for sure!

Easy swap. Great benefits
Part for part swap for my Ibanez AS73.

Great points:
-For the most part each tuner dropped right into it's respective hole. Only two holes needed to be filed out a bit.
-Once installed the pegs worked great and snipped off the excess string exactly as advertised. With the high-E and B I did need to make sure the strings were low on the peg to allow the snip. Otherwise the other 4 strings worked perfectly.
-The quality of the machines is excellent and they work smoothly and hold securely.

Less than great points:
-The screw hole for the tuner did not match the factory tuners so I had to drill and fill. Instead of using dowels for the old holes I just reused the screws from the factory tuners. Not too unsightly and I think my audiences of exactly ZERO won't care either.
-The shaft of the tuner buttons is a little short for my headstock. Clearance for the D and G string buttons is a little tight but still clears it. I only notice it when tuning up. It's not that much an impedance but a reminder that I put aftermarket parts on my guitar that don't fit perfectly. Results will vary depending on your guitar model.
-D'Addario doesn't offer a completely chrome set. I settled for this chrome/flat black set. It looks fine and matches some other chrome/black parts but I would have preferred all chrome.

If I do this again:
-I'll swap one machine/string at a time OR if I pull all the strings, I'll tape down my bridge/saddle pieces. I didn't and The they fell to the work bench and I had to reposition them, yada yada, and now the action isn't as flawless as it was before and I have to fiddle with that. Had I gone string by string that wouldn't have happened.
-I'll replace the whole set of strings. My set was pretty new and I didn't want to waste them. The job would have taken less time and I wouldn't have put a couple of tiny nicks on my headstock from cantankerous twisted string ends.

I'd recommend locking tuners for anyone with a "less expensive guitar". It's an upgrade to the stability of the instrument as well as it's aesthetic. There are plenty of parts a factory skimps on when budgeting an instrament. Tuners and bridges are primary..

Excellent Tuning Machines
I replaced some sloppy, stock tuning machines with these last week.

Love the auto trim feature - looks very clean when completed and made the restringing quicker too.

Also like the black tuner with chrome keys - my headstock is black, but the chrome keys blend with the pick ups and frets, so keeps a certain 'look' to the face.

Only thing I wished was different - the keeper screws don't align with the typical location, so had to redrill and fill the old ones.

Highly recommend
