What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

Great investment
I have no issues with the pin unscrewing. I just used a bit of loctite and presto. Smooth operation.
Ya Can't Go Wrong With Planet Waves
I was sold on the D'Addario/Planet Waves brand before I even ordered. My first experience with a Planet Waves product was an adjustable capo. Liked it so well I later bought a set of their locking tuners for my Ovation, and liked them so well I bought another set for my Strat. Anything with the Planet Waves name on it is so well made you can tell just by looking at it before you ever touch it. I went with a friend to a guitar store and he was torn between Schallers, which were recommended by the store's guitar tech, and the Planet Waves. As soon as I looked at the Planet Waves, I said "go with Planet Waves, Jason. You won't be sorry." He isn't, nor am I, and you won't be either.

Can't finish without some kind words for Sweetwater. With so many choices already available and new products and advancements coming out so frequently, it's great having your own personal sales tech to answer questions and make recommendations when you're not sure about what you need or what your best options are.
Great Locks!
I bought these for my SG because the strap mount by the neck is on the backside of the guitar and the Schaller's I had kept poking me in the stomach. I figured I'd try these since they're flat. All I can say is if I didn't have locks on the rest of my guitars I would buy these for all of them. In fact, I'm half tempted to sell those online and buy these instead...

I almost purchased a different set of flat locks, but my concern was the strap is being held on by a pin that goes into the center of the guitar mount. But if that fails there's nothing else to support the guitar. These locks have the same type of cradle that the Schaller's, Fender's, etc. have, so if the pin mechanism/spring fails your guitar is still supported.

The flat/cradle mount for the strap has a tab on it that lines up with the slot in your strap to make sure it's mounted at the right orientation. At first I thought the threads on the knob were bad as it was hard to tighten. But under closer look, D'Addario put some type of locktite, or something on the thread so it doesn't easily back out.

Also, not sure about the above post re: the color as I bought the black set and all the pieces are black. For the price you simply can't go wrong.

Also, it wouldn't be a complete review without a shout-out to Sweetwater. I ordered them late afternoon and they shipped that day.
Best in a long time
I was blown away by these. I started switching all of my guitars to these straplocks.
Be careful
Easy to install and initially worked great. Be careful as nut that holds the strap side together tends to unscrew itself. Those should come with a warning to check for tightness every time. Caught mine in time to prevent a fall.
