Great All-Purpose Microphone

I just purchased these last week to upgrade the Peavey microphones in my PA system, and spent the weekend A/B testing them against my MXL909 condensor that I use in recording. Although the AKG website recommends this microphone for back-up vocals and not lead vocals, I can say it does very well with lead vocals or vocals in harmony group settings [think the Lettermen, CSN, Kingston Trio, Statler Brothers, Oak Ridge Boys]. This also outperformed my MXL in recording. It produces a very clean even signal across it's frequency range. And because it is a dynamic microphone instead of a condensor , it doesn't require phantom power. I even borrowed a Shure SM58 to compare it with and it outperformed the SM58 for evenness of response and clean reproduction of sound. AKG has a well-earned rep for quality products at reasonable prices and this does not disappoint. I'd recommend them to anyone seeking a high quality dynamic microphone and doesn't have a lot of money to spend. Even if one does have the money for higher priced mics--I'd recommend these, and with the money saved, take the spouse or significant other out for an evening.

Good for the money

AKG fanatic. They've been my mic of choice since 1970. I still have two of my originals from back then. Wanted a few mics with switches that I could use when all of our singers are present. Not in the same league as the D5s, but still a good value. Have two of these, two D5s, a 535, two I don't remember whats from 1970, and a new C4000B. (I do have 3 Blue mics, and one Audio-Technica). As always, Stuart's the man.

Very UnderRated BARGAIN SOUND

IF this mic were 90 dollars, it can sell on merit of sound for LIVE and RECORDING too ! we like it better than sm 57 or sm 58 for many situations. we have successfully recorded ( 2 feet away ! ) viola and violins and even brass and woodwinds with this thing ! VERY GOOD ALL ROUNDER and REALLY nice for female and male vocals too ! the akg D5 is even better...but after that, for example the akg d7, becomes diminishing returns, unless u got a really clean signal chain.... AKG is one of the best bargains out there... and it starts with this low price P 3 !!! u wont sell it , thats for sure, even if you got far more expensive mics, bec this mic has its place in warmth enjoy the music ! dont get toooo serious ! k
