You'll Love This Affordable Mic for Bass and Kick Drum!

When you need a microphone that will let you capture both the transient details and the full-bodied sound of low-pitched instruments, turn to AKG's P 2 dynamic microphone. This remarkable instrument microphone uses a humbucking coil that not only keeps its sound free of noise (always a challenge when close-miking guitar or bass cabinets) but also produces a meaty sound and a frequency response that's tuned toward the low end. Supreme SPL handling and a rugged all-metal body allow the P 2 to stand up to even the most demanding live sound conditions, making it an excellent microphone both onstage and off. The P 2 also comes with a convenient carrying case.

AKG P 2 Dynamic Instrument Microphone Features at a Glance:
  • Cardioid dynamic microphone designed for low-pitched instruments
  • Powerful sound with great bass range
  • Handles high SPL (up to 157dB)
  • Integrated stand adapter

Reviews

AKG P2 Mic SUper
Excel in all
Punchy and Clear
Works great on kicks at 32-65Hz (depending on style of music)
Very versitile and quality built.
Very easy to dial in.
Great for recording.
I prefer it over Beta 52 and D112.
Place it on a stand about half-way inside a kick , off to the side , angled at beater(s).
Perfect balance of attack and body.
No need for sub kick or outer condenser.
Great value
This was my first puchase for a large-diaphragm dynamic mic as I had started to do some recording with a band and needed one for the kick drum. I was pleasantly surprised how good it sounded a few inches into the port; it had good definition with solid body. For the price, it's hard to find a better mic for the purpose. I tried doing some recording with this on a bass cab, but it was a lot darker sounding and had a lot less attack and 'solid' feel than I would've liked. Overall, AKG did a nice job with this mic and I would definitely buy again.
Music background: Gigging bassist, Recording engineer
Excellent Microphone
Sounds better them the SM57 made for bass cabinets. Like it better then going with DI out.
Music background: 50 years Bass player
Great Mic
This is a great mic. I use it on my bass cab and the extra range captures all that precious low end. Has a solid feel and the price point makes this a very attractive choice for people who don't want to break the bank.
Music background: Working bass player/vocalist over 30+ years.
