Small-bodied A/E with Huge Tone

The L-00 Original is based on Gibson’s L-series small-bodied acoustics from the early 1930s. Don’t be fooled, however. This acoustic-electric guitar may be small, but it delivers big tone. That said, its smaller body is super-comfortable to play. Built from top-shelf tonewoods, the L-00 Original churns out the perfect combinations of punchiness, mid-forward projection, and ear-grabbing harmonic overtones. And its wide dynamic range stands up to gentle fingerpicking and heavy strumming alike. This A/E’s rosewood-capped mahogany neck ensures excellent playability, while LR Baggs VTC electronics serve up top-shelf amplified tone. An eye-catching antiqued finish, white script Gibson logo, and single-ply binding complete the Gibson Acoustic L-00 Original.

Vintage tonewoods bring timeless sound

The L-00 Original is crafted from a combination of Sitka spruce and mahogany — the same time-tested tonewoods used since 1932. This storied combination delivers a warm, resonant tone with plenty of projection. The L-00 Original is that type of acoustic that can fill a room when unplugged or saturate a stadium when amplified. Fingerpickers, strummers, soft-touch players, and hard-hitters alike immediately recognize the incredible response this iconic acoustic has to a variety of approaches across an array of genres.

Get amazing sound onstage courtesy of LR Baggs VTC electronics

The Gibson L-00 Original comes with LR Baggs's VTC acoustic pickup system — a popular choice among acoustic guitarists at Sweetwater. This system features a low-profile under-saddle transducer that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Its sleek and effective design removes unnecessary internal components to enhance the coupling between the pickup and the guitar and improve the sensitivity of the transducer for a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and delicate high end. Combined with an onboard preamplifier with an unobtrusive and removable volume control mounted just inside the soundhole, the VTC gives your L-00 Original a pure-sounding amplification presence.

Over a century of Gibson handcrafted excellence

Gibson's reputation as a fine guitar builder dates back to the late 1800s. Handcrafted since day one by some of the most skilled luthiers around, Gibson acoustic guitars have inspired countless players around the world. When you pick up a Gibson acoustic, you know you're getting the finest tonewoods, quality hardware, and incredible attention to detail. These instruments are built to sound great and stand the test of time. After moving from Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Nashville, Tennessee (where Gibson electric guitars continue to be made), Gibson finally settled their acoustic operation in Bozeman, Montana, where they continue making some of the finest guitars on the planet by hand.

Gibson Acoustic L-00 Original Features:

  • Smaller body produces big sound but remains comfortable to play
  • Sitka spruce top delivers a direct, punchy sound with great dynamics
  • Mahogany back and sides yield thick, mid-forward sound with gorgeous overtones
  • Comfortable Slim Taper mahogany neck
  • Easy-playing rosewood fingerboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays

Reviews

Great little guitar!
Really nice playing and sounding guitar right out of the box. The build quality is excellent and I'm very happy to have purchased an American made product. It does sound like a new guitar and will take a while to age and develop its mojo, but I plan on having it for a long time! Mike Brandt and the team at Sweetwater did a great job answering my questions pre-purchase and coupled with the terrific inspections, warranty and fast shipping made the process effortless. Well done!

Just soooo gooooood!!!!
I will keep this short and to the point. Best sounding and playable acoustic electric guitar I have ever owned. I am absolutely in love with this guitar. Small comfortable body with a big sound. I am a gigging musician and I can't put this guitar down. Do yourself a favor and grab one of these beauties. You won't regret it.

Gibson L-00 original just awesome
Guitar arrived and I was blown away with its beauty. Set up was good and I tuned it up and really loved the tones and feel of this guitar. First day I was able to play with some friends who play dreads and this little cannon did so well. Really great build the smell of wood and Nitro really made me smile. The Baggs pickup is my first and I'm very impressed can't wait to play a show with this beautiful guitar. The case is really nice so far I'm blown away with this Gibson L-00 can't imagine how great it will be when it opens up. So glad I got this guitar.

Perfect for me!
I am an at home player and I received this guitar last Friday. I love the size, the look, and most of all the tone both plugged and unplugged. I had already started playing 12 fret and parlor size guitars due to some neck and shoulder issues. I can play this for hours and never feel uncomfortable. I play fingerstyle, light strumming mostly, but this guitar can handle anything it seems. I had always wanted a black acoustic and I love LR Baggs pickups. I actually have two baritone ukes with LR Baggs that I had installed. The rest of my guitars are wondering if they will ever see me again! Of course they will, but I'm not sure the new is going to wear off of this and it seems to just get better as I find the sweet spot on the tone of the pickup. I live rural and don't have a nearby shop to try guitars, but this one is a keeper for sure! Thanks to Sweetwater and Mike Brandt for having such great selections and help along this GAS syndrome that has brought me so much enjoyment. Hope to make it to Fort Wayne one day.
Music background: Hobbyist, guitar, dulcimer, recent lap steel fixation.
Gibson L-00 Original

Ordered both, the L-00 original and the L-00 1933 Murphy Lab. Both were set up nicely. The Murphy lab shows quite some wear and tear and had this big original V shape neck. At first I was drawn into the Murphy Lab because of the neck but figured that the Original played much better. Sound was absolutely comparable but the Murphy lab got out of tune much faster probably because of the very thin finish. The wood seems to be too fresh and did not matured enough. The L-00 Original seemed to be noticeably more stable. The sounds both guitars produce are hardly any different and are impressively balanced for such a small body size. Have the Martin CEO-7 as well but I can tell you that the Gibson L-00 Original smokes the Martin for breakfast. No comparison. The Martin looks better but the Gibson plays much better and in terms of sound is really another animal. Great little guitar. The build-in pickup comes in very handy for performances or recording. You can save yourself around $ and get a better guitar IMHO by choosing the L-00 Original compared to the 1933 Murphy Lab.
