A Technology-laden, Powered Stage Monitor

The LD Systems MON 8 A G3 is a compact, powered stage monitor with a high-performance design. Armed with a 1,200-watt Class D power amp, the MON 8 A G3 boasts a 121dB maximum SPL. Its 8-inch woofer and 1-inch titanium-diaphragm coaxial tweeter yield a 59Hz–20kHz frequency response along with a stage-filling 50-degree x 90-degree dispersion pattern. Its second-generation DynX DSP ensures distortion-free sound, even with the volume cranked, and you get a 3-band EQ, notch filter, four application presets, and a delay line function. You'll appreciate the MON 8 A G3's rugged PowerCON-compatible loop-through power connection, while its 35mm speaker stand flange makes it ideal for FOH applications. An ultra-durable polyurea coating and heavy-duty front grille round out the MON 8 A G3's robust features.

Inventive coaxial design

The MON 8 A G3 brandishes a clever coaxial design, which yields a rock-solid, true-point source via its 1-inch titanium-diaphragm tweeter and its 8-inch woofer with a 2.5-inch voice coil. This active stage monitor's BEM-optimized horn exhibits a 50-degree x 90-degree dispersion pattern. You also get a bass reflex port, which gives you thunderous low-frequency response all the way down to 59Hz.

State-of-the-art DynX DSP

Thanks to the LD Systems MON 8 A G3's proprietary second-generation DynX DSP, you can expect dynamic, high-resolution sound across the entire frequency spectrum, along with distortion-free performance — even at maximum volume. The MON 8 A G3 also includes four intuitive sound presets and a 3-band EQ for fast, user-friendly sound adjustment. When we ran the MON 8 A G3 through its paces here at Sweetwater, we were especially impressed by the effective feedback elimination afforded by its tunable notch filter. You also get a delay line function, compensating for distances up to 33 feet.

High-efficiency Class D power

The MON 8 A G3's highly efficient Class D power amplifier delivers 300 watts RMS and 1,200 watts peak with a dynamic, assertive, stage-filling sound. A secure, PowerCON-compatible port ensures a reliable power connection for your performance, allowing the daisy-chaining of multiple MON 8 A G3 units for efficient power management onstage. You also get two XLR/Jack Combo input channels for parallel connection of multiple audio devices and a pass-through connector that allows direct signal transmission to other devices or monitors, maintaining uniform sound across your entire system.

Reviews

Excellent sound and perfect for stage use
My band uses two of these; one 8" and one 10". Being a multi-instrumentalist having little stage space in front of me because of my other gear, the 8" made sense for me. The sound is fantastic and it will be get plenty loud if you feed it with a good source.

On particular thing to be aware of is the dispersion from the tweeter. The specs state that when placed on its bottom, the vertical dispersion is 90 degrees and the horizontal dispersion is 50 degrees. This seems pretty accurate. As long as it is pointed at you, it can be two feet or ten feet in front of you and sounds good. The limited horizontal dispersion means that you can use several of these on stage with different monitor mixes with limited bleed as long as they are too far out in front.

These are very well built and extremely solid. They will not dance around on the stage even if you pump ridiculous low end into them. The internal DSP is also quite good and very useful. For a powered floor monitor, I really do not think that there is a better option out there.
Wow big sound. Small but robust
This is a GREAT monitor. Sound is huge size is small but robust beefy and made well and looks and sounds 3x the price. I love the wood and steel construction and coax sound without feedback issues. 5 stars
Music background: Experienced
Pro monitor price SO good
Pro spec and sounding monitor and an unbelievable price. Blown away
Music background: Pro
Keep looking

Decent sound. Convoluted operating system. Advanced power cable? So Advanced that most stage hands don't know how to connect or disconnect it. And if it should be lost, you will not be able to use the monitor. I told the manufacturer of this possible scenario. They offered to sell me another cable for a spare in case that happened. $ bucks.Look for a monitor with a standard power cable. Durable? It fell 6 inches off a cart onto the floor.

Music background: Everything from chicken wire to headliner.
