Hear Your Mix the Way Everyone Else Will
It doesn’t matter how perfect your mix sounds in your studio if it doesn’t sound great everywhere else. And considering that many folks listen on bass-challenged devices, such as car stereos, TVs, Bluetooth speakers, smartphones, and computers, achieving a mix that translates can be a frustrating endeavor. That’s why you need the Avantone Pro MixCube Active. This mini-powered speaker faithfully replicates the limited frequency response of a typical consumer listening device, allowing you to hear your mix the way everyone else will. Simply put, if your mix sounds amazing on the MixCube Active, it’ll sound flawless on anything. Moreover, the MixCube Active offers a stellar upgrade from the low-quality passive studio cubes of yore, boasting a specially engineered cabinet, a stunningly transparent driver, and a studio-quality power amplifier. Ultimately, with the MixCube Active in your setup, you’re not just mixing for your studio — you’re mixing for the real world.
Studio-grade driver in a compact cube
While old-school passive mix cubes certainly do the job, they’re too lo-fi for reference monitoring. The MixCube Active, on the other hand, leverages a proprietary 5.25-inch, die-cast, polished aluminum frame driver and cone assembly, giving you true studio-level sound, albeit with a limited frequency response. Additionally, the driver’s custom-designed paper cone is made from top-grade New Zealand pulp with mica fibers for lighter weight and greater rigidity. Moreover, the Japanese-crafted cloth surround boasts an exacting, uniform thickness, and the top plate and T-yoke are constructed of Sumitomo 1008 low-carbon steel, enabling the highest modeled flux density in the gap. Lastly, the MIL-Spec magnets yield a 43-ounce, high-power, low-distortion motor structure that certifies consistent performance, delivering accurate transient response and minimal coloration — exactly what you need for critical mix translation.
Built like a tank for amped-up performance
As impressive as the Avantone Pro MixCube Active’s driver is, at Sweetwater, we’ve found its amp module to be even more astounding. Boasting a no-compromise design, the amplifier is almost overkill for such a small, intentionally limited-performance speaker, delivering robust headroom on par with a high-end rackmount studio model. Furthermore, the MixCube Active’s cabinet is built from dense medium-density fiberboard to safeguard against unwanted resonance. Beyond that, it features top-shelf, nickel-plated input posts, dual-banana spaced on an aluminum terminal plate. You also get a 7mm-thick neoprene pad on the bottom of the cabinet, providing you with skid-resistant acoustic isolation. On top of that, the MixCube Active includes ample internal shielding, ensuring low-noise operation in high-interference areas.
