There is nothing wrong with these cables. If you look at the image, it's clear that they are opposing ends.
The 1 star review does not belong on this product, it belongs on the person buying it that didn't look at the images. If they weren't opposing and were the same direction, would you give a 1 star review if they weren't the direction you wanted it to be? Common sense says that you need to look at the image.
That said, I have had some of these cables for about 4 years with no issues. It's annoying that they don't sell one with the same direction, but in almost all cases in my setup it doesn't matter and in a few cases it would not have worked right had they been the best of the same direction, and the other direction would not have worked at all.

Great if you're connecting a lot of units in a tight space. I just wish it also came in 6" and 12" lengths.

Because of the top mounted MIDI connection on the Volcas, these cables make for a low profile aesthetic, while doing their duty.
