A McCarty 594 for the Working Musician

The PRS SE McCarty 594 electric guitar marks the model’s debut within the SE series, bringing the tonal might and effortless playability of one of Paul’s most iconic models to the masses! Just like its Core line siblings, this 6-string boasts an elegant tonewood pairing of mahogany and maple — a time-tested combo that imparts both warmth and definition to your every note. Next, a pair of low-wind 58/15 LT “S” pickups take the old-school magic of ’50s-style humbuckers straight into the 21st century with an extra helping of clarity and articulation. Looking for a rock-solid gigging guitar? A PRS 2-piece bridge and PRS-designed tuners bookend the SE McCarty 594 with enhanced sustain and exceptional tuning stability. The rosewood-topped-mahogany neck rounds out this guitar’s feature set with a slightly chunky Pattern Vintage profile that’s sure to please thumb-over-neck players and fans of vintage-style neck carves.

Time-tested tonewood combination

From one-of-a-kind Private Stock custom creations to the SE line, PRS is wholeheartedly dedicated to the idea that superior tonewoods result in superior tone. This SE McCarty 594 more than fulfills that philosophy with a tonewood combination that can trace its lineage all the way back to the early ’50s: maple-topped mahogany. The mahogany forms the core of this guitar’s body, adding heft and weight to your every note; in contrast, the maple top imparts an articulate edge that allows everything from single-note lines to roaring rhythm work to cut right through a band situation. It’s a formidable tonewood duo, and there’s a good reason why the vast majority of PRS guitars harness its sonic potential!

Pattern Vintage profile neck for enhanced playability

Some of the least visible but most powerful features of the SE McCarty 594 include a neck feel that maximizes your performance and comfort with an asymmetrical Pattern Vintage profile. Though much like their Pattern profile, PRS's Pattern Vintage carve is slightly thicker to fill your hand in just the right way. And the strings will always feel silky smooth when playing and bending due to the guitar's 24.594-inch signature McCarty scale length — the origin of the "594" in the model name.

Vintage-voiced 58/15 S humbucking pickups

PRS 58/15 LT “S” pickups balance vintage character with modern clarity to deliver the sweet — yet articulate — sound and rich harmonic overtones of vintage humbuckers. This is the warm and clear sonic elixir that propelled 58/15 pickups to the top of many guitarists' favorite PAF-style pickup lists. Featuring a low-wind bridge pickup and neck pickup with the perfect amount of brightness, the 58/15 LT "S" set packs a real sonic punch, from chimey cleans to full shred. Guitarists at Sweetwater love these pickups. You will, too.

PRS SE McCarty 594 Electric Guitar Features:

  • Time-tested tonewood combo of a mahogany body and flame maple veneer maple top deliver a classic tone, with plenty of warmth and definition

What Took Me So Long?

I've been a guitarist for over 30 years now. 95% of my guitars have been Gibson, mostly Les Pauls. I also own several new Epiphone Signature LP's. (the Adam Jones and Jerry Cantrell Wino) PRS had never even crossed my mind before now, but I started getting pop-ups on my phone and started looking into them.
I think I had never considered them before because of their tremolo bridges. I prefer a 2-piece Bridge and Tailpiece on my guitars, or maybe even a wrap-tail, so the PRS options were limited.

Now, if you're a Les Paul player, you deserve to give one of these 594's a test drive. The scale length and balance are instantly comfortable. The electronics work flawlessly and the pickups are just fantastic. These are actually the first set of split-coils that I've found usable. Especially the Neck pickup, it's very musical. I already prefer these over the Burstbuckers in my Gibson LP Traditional.
My McCarty arrived in PERFECT condition, and that's a term I don't use lightly. All I've done is lower the action a hair. The intonation was spot-on straight out of the box.
It's staying in tune very well, although I will change the strings to Elixir and condition the fretboard. I will, eventually, add locking tuners, but that's just a personal preference. These stock tuners are working great. The guitar itself is lighter than my les Pauls at a little over 7 lbs. But it's heavy enough to feel substantial. I've never liked guitars that are too light.
I ordered the Charcoal version and it looks BEAUTIFUL. Like a much more expensive instrument. The wood grain is highly figured and moves nicely at different angles. Mine arrived early today, on a Sunday, and I'm taking the day off work tomorrow to spend more time with it.
This is a pro level instrument, already set up, for the price of a new Epiphone. I can't possibly see how the S2 version is worth twice the cost. The included Gig Bag is also a very nice touch.
Now, if you've never considered PRS before, you really should check one of these out. I only wish I had sooner.
It's just really, REALLY good.
Music background: Lots of guitars.

very happy with quality and sound

very happy with quality and sound. it is a keeper. also have the SE DGT both are fantastic. glad I made the leap to these PRS guitars for the first time.

You don't even have to play guitar to know that PRS instruments are in a league of their own. With their exquisitely figured tops and premium appointments, each PRS is a playable work of art. But it goes way deeper than the surface. Every time Paul visits Sweetwater, we get a deeper look at his amazing instruments. We've even hosted several PRS Custom Shop events, complete with Paul's personal Wood Library! Whether they're his most affordable SE electric guitars, top-quality acoustics, or amps, it's always amazing to see what PRS comes up with. What's more, we keep a ton of PRS guitars in our amazing Guitar Showroom, so the staff at Sweetwater can get hands on with all of their latest models. We'd love to tell you all about them.
