PRS SE McCarty 594 Electric Guitar - Charcoal Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Mahogany Body, Maple Top, Mahogany Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Charcoal

The PRS SE McCarty 594 electric guitar marks the model’s debut within the SE series, bringing the tonal might and effortless playability of one of Paul’s most iconic models to the masses! Just like its Core line siblings, this 6-string boasts an elegant tonewood pairing of mahogany and maple — a time-tested combo that imparts both warmth and definition to your every note. Next, a pair of low-wind 58/15 LT “S” pickups take the old-school magic of ’50s-style humbuckers straight into the 21st century with an extra helping of clarity and articulation. Looking for a rock-solid gigging guitar? A PRS 2-piece bridge and PRS-designed tuners bookend the SE McCarty 594 with enhanced sustain and exceptional tuning stability. The rosewood-topped-mahogany neck rounds out this guitar’s feature set with a slightly chunky Pattern Vintage profile that’s sure to please thumb-over-neck players and fans of vintage-style neck carves.

What Took Me So Long?

By Zappa from Kent Ohio on November 22, 2023 Music Background: Lots of guitars.

I've been a guitarist for over 30 years now. 95% of my guitars have been Gibson, mostly Les Pauls. I also own several new Epiphone Signature LP's. (the Adam Jones and Jerry Cantrell Wino) PRS had never even crossed my mind before now, but I started getting pop-ups on my phone and started looking into them.
I think I had never considered them before because of their tremolo bridges. I prefer a 2-piece Bridge and Tailpiece on my guitars, or maybe even a wrap-tail, so the PRS options were limited.

Now, if you're a Les Paul player, you deserve to give one of these 594's a test drive. The scale length and balance are instantly comfortable. The electronics work flawlessly and the pickups are just fantastic. These are actually the first set of split-coils that I've found usable. Especially the Neck pickup, it's very musical. I already prefer these over the Burstbuckers in my Gibson LP Traditional.
My McCarty arrived in PERFECT condition, and that's a term I don't use lightly. All I've done is lower the action a hair. The intonation was spot-on straight out of the box.
It's staying in tune very well, although I will change the strings to Elixir and condition the fretboard. I will, eventually, add locking tuners, but that's just a personal preference. These stock tuners are working great. The guitar itself is lighter than my les Pauls at a little over 7 lbs. But it's heavy enough to feel substantial. I've never liked guitars that are too light.
I ordered the Charcoal version and it looks BEAUTIFUL. Like a much more expensive instrument. The wood grain is highly figured and moves nicely at different angles. Mine arrived early today, on a Sunday, and I'm taking the day off work tomorrow to spend more time with it.
This is a pro level instrument, already set up, for the price of a new Epiphone. I can't possibly see how the S2 version is worth twice the cost. The included Gig Bag is also a very nice touch.
Now, if you've never considered PRS before, you really should check one of these out. I only wish I had sooner.
It's just really, REALLY good.
