Your pro-audio specialists at Sweetwater can tell you: this microphone is a must-have for your studio! The perfect combination of vintage sound and modern technology, the M 149 Tube is the first tube mic designed by Neumann in over 30 years. Based on the classic U 47, the M 149 gives you unmistakable tube warmth that audiences love. At the same time, you get the clarity and precision of a modern capsule. It has the lowest self-noise of any tube microphone on the market. The M 149 Tube will add true flexibility to your recordings with nine polar patterns to choose from and a 7-position highpass filter.

Neumann M 149 Tube Condenser Mic Features:
  • 9 different patterns, including omni, cardioid, wide-angle cardioid, hypercardioid, and figure-8
  • Pressure gradient transducer (K 49 capsule)
  • 20Hz-20kHz frequency response

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Right on!

M149 has such nice top end, smooth, nothing harsh. Nice mid and low mids. GREAT ON VOCALS, and lovely on Guitars. Go for it.

Blown Away!

I have (and still have) a Townsend Sphere L22. Loved the M149 emulation on many voices in the studio that I decided to pull the trigger on the real thing. Definitely a big step up from the Sphere emulation. Running it through a Neve 1073DPX side chained with a UBK Fatso. Fantastic results, couldn't be happier! Will keep the Sphere to have the options of many other mic emulations, but this is now my go to for 90% of mic work. Disclaimer: Our studio only records vocals and acoustic guitar through analog so can only comment on it's use in those scenarios...all other instruments are ITB for us.

Best Mic ever!

This is now my go too Mic!

Hall of Fame Mic

This mic is awesome. I have only used it on vocals. On vocals it knocks them out of the park! You can track vocals on these and hardly need to do any EQ after. I recently tracked on this mic and loved the chain I was able to use this M149 to a BAE 1084 and a EL Distressor (Compressor). Boy did the final product sound incredible. Plain and simple with this mic you get what you pay for!

My desert island mic

This mic is absolutely killer! I've used it on about everything from drum rooms, vocals, claps, gang vox, and ukulele! It brings huge, warm, crisp sounds. It's worth every penny.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Jeffrey Green

The M149 is the must-have studio microphone for the serious recording engineer or studio. One listen to this mic and you'll hear a unique, smooth, warm, refined quality that is not present in any other microphone.

Kenny Bergle

What can I say? Possibly the 'best' mic on the planet! Sounds GREAT on anything, REALLY! I own a pair and they are worth every penny. The M149 made me a better engineer instantly as it erased a ton of microphone-related issues and eliminated the need for audio band-aids right and left! You will NEVER be sorry you bought an M149, except possibly that you didn't buy a pair! REALLY!
