Right on!
M149 has such nice top end, smooth, nothing harsh. Nice mid and low mids. GREAT ON VOCALS, and lovely on Guitars. Go for it.

The best voiceover and vocal mic money can buy.
The Neumann M 149 Tube Microphone is pure studio magic. Its impeccable build ensures reliability, while its timeless design instills confidence at every session.

What truly sets the M 149 apart is its lush, warm tone. This microphone captures every subtle nuance with a tube-driven shimmer that solid-state designs simply can't replicate. Whether it's the delicate breath of a voiceover or the full power of a vocal performance, the M 149 reproduces every detail with stunning fidelity. My clients always choose it over any other mic in my collection -- it elevates recordings to an entirely new level.

While I have immense admiration for the RØDE K2 for its warmth and versatility, the M 149 takes things further. Its unmatched tonal richness and precision justify the investment for professionals seeking the absolute best.

The nine polar patterns make this mic a standout choice for almost any recording setup. From voiceovers and vocals to the intricate details of acoustic instruments, the M 149 adapts effortlessly to any scenario. Its finely tuned low-cut filter enhances its versatility, delivering consistent, exceptional results across a variety of professional applications.

This microphone isn't just a tool -- it's the pinnacle of recording excellence. Once you experience the M 149's warmth, shimmer, and breathtaking detail, you'll never want to record without it.

WOW!
Amazing mic! No matter which pre I throw at it, it just keeps coming up roses. This thing is a game changer in my studio and I have some really good mics. I use Neve 1073 and 5211 preamps, Black Lion B12A's and SSL Puredrive preamps and nothing phases this mic short of me recording one hot when I first got it and indulged in a little digital clipping.

Blown Away!
I have (and still have) a Townsend Sphere L22. Loved the M149 emulation on many voices in the studio that I decided to pull the trigger on the real thing. Definitely a big step up from the Sphere emulation. Running it through a Neve 1073DPX side chained with a UBK Fatso. Fantastic results, couldn't be happier! Will keep the Sphere to have the options of many other mic emulations, but this is now my go to for 90% of mic work. Disclaimer: Our studio only records vocals and acoustic guitar through analog so can only comment on it's use in those scenarios...all other instruments are ITB for us.

Best Mic ever!

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?
Kenny Bergle
What can I say? Possibly the 'best' mic on the planet! Sounds GREAT on anything, REALLY! I own a pair and they are worth every penny. The M149 made me a better engineer instantly as it erased a ton of microphone-related issues and eliminated the need for audio band-aids right and left! You will NEVER be sorry you bought an M149, except possibly that you didn't buy a pair! REALLY!
Jeffrey Green
The M149 is the must-have studio microphone for the serious recording engineer or studio. One listen to this mic and you'll hear a unique, smooth, warm, refined quality that is not present in any other microphone.
