Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s: Born to Rock

From its carved maple top to its stockpile of premium features, the Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s is ready to rock. Burstbucker pickups and handwired electronics on this Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s deliver a massive tone arsenal. And you’ll enjoy effortless playability, courtesy of a satisfying vintage ’50s profile neck and fast-action rosewood fingerboard. If you’ve been wanting a modern Gibson Les Paul with a chunky neck feel and premium appointments, Sweetwater has your axe. The Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s is the guitar you’ve been waiting for.

Burstbucker pickups deliver vintage PAF tone on this Gibson Les Paul Standard

When it comes to capturing that vintage ’50s Patent Applied For (PAF) humbucker tone, nothing beats the sound of this Gibson Les Paul Standard’s Burstbucker pickups. Alnico II magnets capture the subtle variations in true humbucker tone, thanks to the period-correct unmatched windings on the bobbins. Plug the Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s into your favorite amp, and experience smooth low-end response, complex midrange crunch, and sweet-sounding highs. These pickups sound great clean, or they can be used to push your amp into overdrive for the legendary fat, snarling tone you can only get with a humbucker. Under the hood, the control assembly is handwired with matched potentiometers and Orange Drop capacitors, ensuring that you’ll hear the mellifluous voice of your Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s in all its glory, even when you back down your volume.

Vintage ’50s neck and Plek’d frets for optimized playability

Comfort and playability were two of Gibson’s primary concerns when they were designing the Les Paul Standard ’50s. You’ll be delighted by how this guitar’s vintage ’50s neck profile comfortably fills your hand in just the right way. For your playing pleasure, the rosewood fingerboard is buffed to silky smoothness and bound with rolled edges so that no fret ends impede your dexterity. The frets of this Gibson Les Paul Standard are dressed to perfection using a Plek Pro machine for optimized playability. Typically reserved for top-dollar custom guitars, this process levels the frets with pinpoint precision, providing you with the most playable fretboard you’re likely to own.

Nitro finish for the look and feel of a classic

Gibson gave the Les Paul Standard ’50s a gorgeous nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Nitro finishes — standard back in the day — are significantly thinner than today’s polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to “breathe.” Nitro finishes not only look amazing, but they also enhance the instrument’s tonal qualities. The Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s has the look and feel of a lovingly cared-for classic — one that will only improve with age.

Gibson Les Paul Standard ’50s Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Mahogany body, maple top; gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish
  • Mahogany neck, vintage ’50s profile, gloss nitro finish
  • Rosewood fingerboard, 12" radius, acrylic trapezoid inlays

Reviews

My first Gibson
Outstanding build quality plays beautifully.
50"s Gibson
Awesome guitar, Alex was great, this is my 3 guitar that I purchased from Sweetwater, great customer service.
I could not be happier
This is the first Les Paul Standard I've had in 20 years. I absolutely love it. Everything about it is perfect. They say that the guitar doesn't make the man but I'm telling you that this Les Paul makes me a better guitarist.
It’s perfect
Can't ask for much more on these. Wanted a 50s standard since I could read guitar world and learned what musicians friend and Sweetwater magazines were; American musical supply.

Age 12-13 started playing in 05, got it at 31. I still own a Gibson 2013 traditional 50s LP in "Caramel Burst." Comparing the two their 2024 standard is a wider felling neck and obviously the burst buckers, which have a deeper punch and to my ears, a bit hotter in the right places and less in the right places as well compared to say 57 classics my TRAD. Came with AND even the Seth Lovers I popped into the 2013 LP comparing; the burst buckers have a more all around deeper growl; to me, of course.

But the neck. The neck and binding are different in the best ways possible cause the yin and yang of two takes on one idea; variation on the same theme. The 2024 standard feels wider yet not as chunky in the U department, it's more so just more neck all around in ways compared to the 2013 traditional.

The binding is also different in the 24' and allows wider bends and more room to wiggle on with your fretting hand is the best way I can describe it. This kinda makes me wanna pop 11s gauge strings on it and continue to de tune to e flat in 432 hz or whatever is more pleasing to the ear from the scientists who say so; idk, look it up. I'm in awe that the 2024 standard is "better" in ways compared to my traditional from 2013, but the beauty of every Les Paul we touch or collect to compare and contrast are gonna be different and the only thing to me that really matters is this neck. I can change whatever I want but the body weight and neck have to be "me" or "you". You just gotta find the right one for you. Order the heaviest one available and I promise you will absorb that sound and say "wow.."

Cheers and happy playing/buying/shredding/rocking in the free world!
Music background: lol I don’t wanna talk about that it. Playing for 20 years as of 2025.
