A Classic Reissue with Glorious Attention to Detail and Realistic Aging

How'd you like to sling a vintage Les Paul Junior around your shoulder and transport yourself back to an era before digital effects and DIP switches? With original '60 Les Paul Juniors in extremely short supply, Gibson Custom has come to the rescue with the 1960 Les Paul Junior Double Cut Reissue, a glorious period-correct reissue of the cult-classic student model. The 1-piece mahogany body is loaded with a custom dog ear P-90 for a ripping tone that excels under high gain. You also get a solid mahogany neck, a rosewood fingerboard, Plek'd frets, and the old-school nut width. To top it all off, the entire guitar went through the Murphy Labs Ultra-Heavy Aging process for the look and feel of a genuine closet classic. Guitarists at Sweetwater can't stop talking about — and playing — the Gibson Custom 1960 Les Paul Junior Double Cut Reissue. Score one of these beauties for yourself, and you'll soon find out why.

Artfully aged in Gibson Custom Shop's Murphy Lab

Under the leadership of Master Artisan Tom Murphy, Gibson Custom Shop's Murphy Lab performs one specific function: to craft artfully aged instruments using the most cutting-edge tools available. These guitars are targeted to one of four distinct levels of age and wear, ranging from Ultra-Light to Ultra-Heavy. This Les Paul Junior features Ultra-Heavy aging, boasting prominent checking and exposed wood throughout, along with major buckle rash, heavy arm wear, visible pick wear, and heavy neck and peghead face wear. You’ll immediately feel the aura of a number-one guitar that has survived decades of heavy playing and onstage abuse. Murphy Lab heavy-aged hardware puts the final touch on this exquisite instrument. Beyond that, this guitar's extra-rolled fingerboard binding mimics the broken-in look and feel of a Golden-era Gibson. If you clamor for the authenticity and distinct character of a well-worn vintage-style instrument, there's a Murphy Lab-aged guitar that will feel like it was tailor-made just for you.

Impeccable period-correct construction

Gibson Custom's detail-oriented construction and unwavering dedication to tradition materialize everywhere on this 1960s Les Paul Junior Double Cut Reissue. It was made completely according to old-school specs, including the 1-piece mahogany slab body for enhanced resonance. Gibson purists will appreciate the solid mahogany neck and 1960 SlimTaper neck profile that perfectly fills the hand. A single dog ear P-90 sits in the bridge position, alongside a wraparound bridge/tailpiece, volume, and tone controls. It's all held together with hide glue, too, making it a true Gibson. Rest assured, every component on the guitar has been carefully selected to bring this axe as close as possible to its vintage brethren.

Old-school neck profile

The 1960 Les Paul Junior Double Cut Reissue doesn't just have the look of a classic. It also plays and feels like one. The comfortable neck carve feels sleek and playable — when you wrap your hand around it for the first time, you'll lose yourself in the feeling that enticed thousands of players in the golden era. The neck is complete with a 1.6875-inch nut width. Like all Gibson guitars, this instrument was Plek'd before leaving the factory to ensure smooth, flawless playability.

Gibson Custom 1960 Les Paul Junior Double Cut Reissue Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Faithful re-creation of a classic Les Paul Junior
  • Murphy Lab Ultra-Heavy Aging gives the aura of an axe that's survived decades of heavy playing and stage abuse
  • 1-piece mahogany body supplies a solid tonal foundation
  • Custom-wound dog ear P-90 pickup delivers a snarling tone

Amazing guitar

All you need is one pickup, if the guitar is good enough.
I have three juniors: Cs Sg Junior, 57 junior heavy aged and this little black junior ultra heavy aged.
Now I believe that Murphy Lab is a magical thing, because black junior has the best resonance. I'm not sure if it is because of the body shape's difference.
Junior and P90 is my favorite!

Im blown away by everything about this guitar - its a time machine that looks, feels and sounds like the best vintage Gibson ever

So Im a Sweetwater veteran and have enjoyed buying nice guitars on interest free credit for a while now. I recently finished paying off a custom shop strat, so I was in touch with my sales engineer Randy Poteete about getting another guitar. Randy has helped me get guitars and gear that I never thought I could afford to own. I tell him what I want and he keeps an eye on the inventory and pricing. The only problem was, all the guitars that I liked were out of stock, so I told him my favorites and waited to hear back when something came in.

Well, the first guitar to show up was this ultra heavy aged Murphy lab double cutaway Les Paul junior. Do I take it, or pass and wait for one of the other guitars I coveted. I thought long and hard for 15 minutes and decided to pull the trigger on this very pricey guitar. And I would not have made that move with anyone other than Randy Poteete and Sweetwater, because of the relationship and trust we have built up over the years.

This guitar is absolutely incredible. Its exactly like a premium 1960s guitar that was played hard and maintained perfectly for decades. It feels, looks, plays and sounds like a vintage guitar, except that its a brand new meticulously crafted fine instrument. As for the guitar itself, it plays and sounds amazing, it is so resonant and full of sustain, and the pickup is miraculous, its amazingly responsive and flexible.
