Built for Extreme Underground Metal

Thanks to its menacing design, the ESP M-Black Metal looks as sinister as it sounds. It features an all-black finish, components, and hardware, and its Macassar ebony fingerboard boasts no inlays. In fact, the only thing preventing the M-Black Metal from disappearing into blackness is a series of glow-in-the-dark side markers. As for sound, this axe was built for extreme underground metal. A Seymour Duncan Black Winter bridge humbucker spews out grinding cacophony like nothing you've heard before, while neck-thru-body construction gives you long-lasting sustain and excellent articulation. And the M-Black Metal was made to last, sharing the same build quality as ESP's LTD Deluxe 1000 series.

Seymour Duncan Black Winter humbucker delivers grime and grind

Seymour Duncan characterizes their Black Winter humbucker as being "extreme as the Scandinavian winter." The guitarists here at Sweetwater find that to be an apt description. Tailor-made for black metal, death metal — basically any extreme subgenre of metal — this pickup is jam-packed with grime and grind, yielding crushing distortion, punishing mids, and aggressive saturation. The M-Black Metal's Black Winter bridge humbucker is mounted directly to the guitar’s body to increase its presence and resonance.

ESP's Mirage body style delivers amazing comfort and tone

With feedback from their impressive stable of artists, ESP worked tirelessly to get their Mirage body style just right. The M Series is all about comfort, tone, and sustain. When you're rocking hard night after night, the last thing you need is an axe that hangs on you like a boat anchor. M Series guitars fit you like a glove, they're lightweight, and they're nicely balanced so you don't have to expend energy keeping your neck from diving. Try on an ESP M Series guitar for size. You won't look back.

Reviews

Great
In short the guitar is amazing. I'd say the best thing about it is the fast neck feel. Pickup sounds mean as hell and while the volume knob does seem in the way it has helped me with keeping my fingers together while playing. As always Dennis and the Sweet Water team do a wonderful job! I'll always buy gear from you guys!
My new #1
I did not know that this would be the BEST import guitar I have received to date for me. I have owned over 10+ guitars.

This thing is an absolute tank. I feel that this thing could be chucked out of a 15 story building and then ran over by a tank and still make it without a scratch. It is that solid. Additionally I am super picky about fine nitty gritty imperfections and I must say mine came up with not one thing I could pick. Excellent routing, fretwork, and the fit and finish is top notch. Absolutely IMPECCABLE!

And the playability? Awesome. The neck is nice and thin and perfect for my hands (I am slightly on the smaller side of hands). The satin neck allows for smooth and fast movement along the neck. If you are playing extreme metal this thing will not fight you and when making those quick, fast, and brutal chord changes and slams you will not be let down by this weapon.

The sound? Absolutely crushing. I had a prior experience with the Black Winter pickup and found them to be quite thin and uninteresting for metal IMO. I felt the same way when this guitar came stock and was in E standard. HOWEVER, the story changed for me once I set it up in D Standard. Wow! this thing is juicy and thick, whilst maintaing clarity and punch. Absolutely incredibly! I think ESP knocked this whole guitar right of the park! And for the price? NO ONE CAN TOP THIS!

My only gripe with the guitar is the knob placement. I love ESP, but for a guitar this good you'd think they would've fixed such a silly issue such as this. However, I have learned to live with it and with everything mentioned above it has not tainted my experience with this instrument.

If you are tip-toeing about buying one of these, stop immediately and JUST BUY IT! You know you want it and you KNOW it will be an absolute beast. Don't live in denial like I did and just do it.

Major thanks to my rep, Mason who helped ensure that I got an amazing instrument!

Killer Guitar

I have owned this guitar for 4 years now. It's my first ever LTD & it quickly became my favorite guitar. I own other metal style guitars but this is the one I play the most. No need getting into the specs since it's all here on the page already. Just writing this review to confirm to anyone thinking of buying it to go for it. At $ it's a steal. I paid full price but have had it for a while now

I can't stop playing and put this guitar down!
Wow. On Point. First off, there are many more versatile and flexible Black and Death Metal guitars available, but this is not one of them. This guitar is purposely crafted with feedback from artists in the genre for one (ish) thing. Black Metal (and Black influenced Death Metal/ Underground Extreme Metal). Form follows function. As a Black Metal artist in the genre, this guitar is the real deal, no joke. It is solid, yet light and easy to handle, but this is one of those guitars that for me is more than the sum of its parts, and to truly understand this guitar you have to understand the Extreme Metal Genre. This is literally a tool for Black Metal Rituals. Subdued black satin finish= no grubby fingerprints. Everything is covered in cold, icy black. One Seymour Duncan Black Winter bridge pickup is all you will ever need. Picking up this guitar made me instantly start playing it. I started playing and I could not stop. Playing chords, the cold, icy tone put me in a trance, then I started black metal tremlo picking single notes. So clear, sharp and piercing, it's like an icy cold knife buried in your chest. And as I kept playing that knife began flash freezing my body from the inside out, and then the knife begins to turn....slowly...There is something about that Seymour Duncan Black Winter pickup, that I cannot put my finger on.. something...dark...cold...Evil....Even playing clean with no distortion it still sounds like a clean guitar instrumental in a Black Metal track. Even the letters of the Seymour Duncan name on the pickup are in a black, dark Gothic style. This guitar takes to distortion, any distortion, like a fish to water. As a matter of fact, I have a small Roland Cube amp that I use for practice, and I plan to use that amp with this guitar in my recordings. Speaking of recordings, I have had a bad case of "writer's block" for over a over a year now. I just could not come up with any new material. After playing this guitar for 30 minutes I had material to 2 Black Metal tracks. WTF!! How could this be? Did I make a deal with the Devil? Well, if the devil himself had a guitar, this would be it. God help me.

Fantastic
Ive owned many a super strat in my day and this one blows the rest out the water. The satin finish is smooth as can be and the introduction of Stainless frets to the LTD line is the cherry on top for this one. Not as versatile as your typical dual humbuckers but the ability to coil split adds a great flavor to this guitars sound. Sexy and straight to the point, as a metal guitar should be.
