Every Overdrive You Could Ask For

Like all of Source Audio's One series pedals, there's a lot more to the L.A. Lady Overdrive pedal than meets the eye. The three factory-equipped overdrive engines cover popular territory — choose from a cranked British amp sound, a screamer-type overdrive, and a smooth tube-amp-style overdrive. Where the magic happens is with Source Audio's Neuro Editor software, which takes you inside the pedal's powerful 56-bit Sigma DSP and allows you to fine-tune all sorts of parameters. Neuro also gives you access to more overdrive engines, including distortions and fuzz. And once you've created your ideal effects, you can save up to three of them on the Source Audio L.A. Lady Overdrive pedal for instant recall, without ever having to open the editor again.

Customize your tone with the Neuro Editor

You can make your L.A. Lady Overdrive pedal your does-it-all grit box simply by using the free Neuro Editor. Connect the L.A. Lady Overdrive via USB to the Neuro Editor, and you'll have access to Source Audio’s free library of additional overdrive, distortion, and fuzz algorithms — each directly downloadable to the pedal. The Neuro App also offers an extended range of adjustable parameters that includes Feedback, Output Level, Parametric EQ, advanced signal routing, and much more.

Source Audio L.A. Lady Overdrive Features:

  • Overdrive pedal with 3 distinctive overdrive modes
  • Free Neuro Editor offers access to additional overdrive, distortion, and fuzz engines, plus deep parameter tweaking
  • Stock overdrive types include Classic, Crunch, and Smooth
  • Stereo I/O with multiple FX routing options
  • Switchable bypass modes — choose from buffered or true bypass
  • Expression control input can control up to 3 simultaneous parameters
  • MIDI controllable via Neuro Hub (sold separately)

Reviews

Hats off to Source Audio
Ok, quick disclaimer: I'm not a hard-liner, but classically a Tube amp over SS guy, and analog over digital effect guy. That being said, SA are breaking open the digi game IMO. I'd say the digital/analog thing is usually more 'feel' than sound, personally, and this bad boy neither sounds nor feels digital. It responds much like my analog OD/Distortion units. As to sounds, just WOW. 3 starter settings are fine, good range for out-of-the-box usage. To be fair, I probably didn't give the base sounds enough testing, 'cause I had other plans right from the get-go. I was after highly tweakable high gain metal goodness, and a RAT clone to play with. Once you delve into tweaking factory sounds, downloading community creations and building your own sounds, the glory of what SA has done here becomes apparent. Being able to build in a noise gate (or just a filter) is a godsend for high gain usage. There are so many EQ parameters to play with, it can be overwhelming (as close to a negative as I can muster for this box of golden gloriousness). To sum up: sounds awesome, feels awesome, can you lose hours in the Neuro editor? Oh yeah. Is such time worth it? Oh yeah. If you're just looking for plug and play, still a valid choice in my book, YMMV. With as much as so many high end drive units go for, this bad lady is sooo worth the price. Not going to outright say "if this thing sounds bad it's your own fault" but... well... *shrug*
My 2 cents, for what it's worth. Thanks Source Audio for pushing the envelope and innovating in a very rehashed niche, thanks Sweetwater for carrying the coolest of gear, thanks Nick Grawcock for feeding my addiction, love ya for it.

Versatile overdrive/fuzz
Probably the most important aspect of this pedal is that it's digital modeling but it's sound and responds in the way an analogue pedal would. It's very impressive. Once that box was checked I dove into the app where you'll find about 50 different overdrive and fuzz tones that can be "burned" to the toggle switch positions. I was mainly buying this for the chance to have 12 or so different fuzzes to choose from. They are all great in what they are trying to recreate. There are also tons of uploaded tones on the community section of the app- many of them are very good. There is deep editing you can do in the app and the changes happen in real time on the pedal. Anything from low mids, to high mids, mid frequency, dry/wet mix, and there are tones of routing options out of the stereo capable pedal. I am very happy with the near endless options but also the straightforward factory tones are killer too. It can be a simple, great overdrive or it can be endless tweaking. My other overdrives are a Matthew's effects architect and a Golden boy so regardless of the options this thing had high tonal standards to meet and it did. I highly recommend.

Such Versatility
This pedal's strengths are: 1. The variety of overdrive and distortion effects that can be programmed into it and 2. The fact that you can manually toggle among three different presets on stage and get three distinctly different sounds in one pedal. Also, you can cascade one distortion sound into another to achieve sounds that would normally take two pedals to pull off. I used to use both a Boss Metal Core (for distortion) and a Boss OD-3 (for overdrive/boost). Now I only need the L.A. Lady because I get boost, overdrive, and heavily distorted sounds with the flick of a switch on one pedal.
As if that weren't enough, the pedal has a tweakable noise gate, and a built-in equalizer including two parametric mid parameters with Q. Of course, most of the value of this pedal is only achieved if you are willing to use your phone or computer along with the Neuro app to get into the pedal's digital parameters and tweak away. If you are not willing to do that, it's still a nice-sounding pedal but you won't be really using it properly. Use this pedal correctly and it will do amazing things.

Everything i was looking for and then some
Was looking for a tube screamer like pedal with transparency. This is all that. I was using an Ibanez tube screamer and a boss blues driver CD2, they both gave me a tone that sounded like i was playing in a tin can, hated it. With this pedal my tone shines through, with just a touch of dirt for those gritty solos, with tons of sustain. Love it so much, took a chance on the king fuzz as well, and it too more than delivers, for those heavy solos.. it's a clean fuzz tone, not muddy like my big muff.

I play blues and R&B mostly, play a American tele and strat, both with seymour duncan antiquity pups, through a fender supersonic 22. And these two pedals compliment it like no other pedal I've tried on both clean and OD channels, and believe me, I've tried a lot over the last two years chasing that tone. You can dial up as much dirt or clean you want. With the option of going into the software app and do some fine tuning, or finding a preset there. I'm just using the factory settings. But there are some cool tones in there, especially if you're a rock player..
Couldn't be happier. Would recommend these pedals to anyone who is looking for transparency and great sustain.

Technology is awesome.
I must admit, I was hesitant about the L.A. Lady,
You know...... digital!! Ilove analog. But this it's so versatile. The 56 bit sigma DSP is the ticket.
Lots and lots of tone. Source Audio did a great with this. It can sound like any OD/Distortion even a fuzz pedal. The SMOOTH option is so good.
The software editor is incredible for tone shaping, stacking, etc. Too much to add. See online for the details. I've been A and B-ing this with my analog overdrives. Tube screamer, Wampler Tumnus, Wampler Sovereign and it's difficult to tell the difference. Technology is crazy great. Once again the 56 bit DSP.
I'd recommend it.
