Ludwig’s Flagship Bass Drum Pedal

The top-of-the-line Ludwig Speed Flyer chain-driven single bass drum pedal takes its visual cues from classic Ludwig designs and ups the ante with a slew of modern, high-performance features. The Speed Flyer’s beater retains the traditional sizing, but it has an improved design and increased weight for a more focused strike. Bushings have been upgraded to smooth action bearings, delivering a more responsive feel. A redesigned toe clamp minimizes hoop damage and provides a secure and reliable grip. Additionally, the Speed Flyer has a stronger baseboard than previous Ludwig kick pedals, new ergonomic wing bolts, and a very convenient attached drum key. A favorite feature of drummers at Sweetwater, the Speed Flyer boasts clear orientation marks for easy and consistent cam adjustments, making setup a breeze!

The Ludwig legacy

Since 1909, Ludwig drums have had one of the proudest legacies in percussion and are a favorite of Sweetwater drummers for their warm, punchy sound. The world has heard them under the sticks of Cream's Ginger Baker, keeping the pulse behind Queen at Live Aid, and laying down the monstrous beat of Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks." But their biggest break came when Ringo Starr proudly played them on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, making Ludwig a household name for aspiring and superstar drummers alike.

Ludwig Speed Flyer Single Bass Drum Pedal Features:

  • Ludwig’s flagship chain-driven single bass drum pedal
  • Classic-inspired design with a sleek look and modern features
  • Improved, heavier beater provides a focused strike
  • Smooth action bearings deliver a responsive feel
  • Redesigned toe clamp minimizes hoop damage and offers a secure, reliable grip

Reviews

One of the first upgrades you should do
My feet have always been the worst part of my drumming abilities, until I bought this pedal. Coming off of a no name crappy pedal that came with my kit and transitioning to a proper pedal increased my technique and my skill on the bass drum. Overall it's a solid pedal and you can adjust the tension however you like. Would buy again
Music background: High school drummer (Jazz, Concert, Drumline, Church)
Outstanding Pedal
This pedal genuinely gives flagship pedals a run for their money, I am thoroughly impressed.

After making preference adjustments (cam, tension, replaced chain with strap), it works seamlessly and with ease. The beater in my opinion is perfectly weighted, looks, and sounds great.

I also own a DW 5000 pedal, I feel the Speed Flyer exceeds the feel and performance of the DW. I never felt at home with the DW, but fell right inline with the Speed Flyer with little tinkering time.

Pros:
Smooth and fast action
Footboard is great
Plenty of available adjustments
Included high quality strap
Most adjustments can be made with drum key
Hex key is included to remove chain if desired
Rubber padding on base
Wing nut for toe clamp is easy to use
Included drum key
Nice look

Cons:

At certain adjustments footboard can hit the nut on toe clamp
No included bag
As of now, I have seen no Loctite on screws, over time screws may loosen

Overall, a very well designed pedal built for the player. Timeless pedals like the Speed King and Iron Cobra have proven simple pedals are effective, the Speed Flyer exemplifies that with slight modern updates making it what I believe to be best in class.

Great response and feel.
Such a great base pedal. Response is quick with great feel.
Great quality in work
And hip and should last a long time as it is very sturdy ste construction.
Looks awesome is plus !
Love this Ludwig Speed Flyer!
Best feeling pedal I've played in a while. Thanks Ludwig
Music background: I'm 21 years old as of 2022, I've been playing drum/ percussion since I was 8-10 years old. Im a mix of self taught, then had middle school and highschool education in music. I love being a part of this community.
Great Pedal
I upgraded to the Speed Flyer from the the stock bass pedal in the Ludwig Evolution kit. The standard pedal did not have the power to bring the best out in the bass drum. The kit I use in my lessons is also an Evolution with an upgraded pedal. The Speed Flyer is like night and day from the the stock pedal, it now strikes with a solid crack- the missing element from the stock pedal.
