A Small Amp with Formidable Bite

Dive into a ferocious ocean of British/American tonal fusion with Victory’s VX The Kraken 50-watt Tube Head. Ask any guitarist at Sweetwater, and they'll tell you that there's nothing like the tonal qualities of a true tube amp. With the tempestuous VX Kraken, gain aficionados and extended-range players can prepare to set sail with an authentic 2-channel tube amp that submerges the limits of "small" amp capabilities. You can navigate two gain modes: I for warm, classic British tonality; and II for scorching high-grain American grind. You're also armed with a robust control set and flexible switching capabilities. Finally, with a convenient handle and lightweight design, you can easily transport The Kraken around for any touring excursion.

Versatile, dynamic gain options

Developed with renowned metal guitarist Rabea Massaad, The Kraken delivers hefty, versatile gain options. Gain mode I exemplifies classic British-style-friendly mids that create the perfect tonal range for genres like classic rock and metal — this mode especially complements dynamic playing within a hard rock structure. Conversely, Gain mode II provides a tighter, more grinding "American" midrange voice that is perfect for aggressive picking styles and heavy metal riffing.

Channels, effects, and switches

Given its two channels, two master volumes, and effects loop, The Kraken easily plunges into harmonic and stylistic embellishments that you can customize with the supplied footswitches or your own pedal switching system. Switch on the bass focus when using a lower extended range guitar to experience a powerful merge of control and definition. Need to cut down on the wattage? Check out the low-power and single-ended modes to lower wattage or switch valve use.

Versatile power valves

The Kraken comes with bold, boisterously clear 6L6 power valves as standard. But if you’re ever looking to test the waters of its sonic capabilities, you can run warmer, crunchier EL34’s; for the versatile Kraken, these tubes offer subtly different characteristics. At Sweetwater, it’s safe to say the jaws of The Kraken have taken hold over our guitarists — grab yours and dive into an endless sea of face-melting possibilities!

Victory VX The Kraken 50-watt Tube Head Amp Features:

  • Gain mode I for the warmth of British-inspired tonality
  • Gain mode II for scorching high-grain grind of American sounding amps
  • Valves: 4 x 12AX7, 2 x 6L6

High Gain from a High Quality Build
Sweetwater was running a great deal on the original 50w Kraken and I'm glad I grabbed this guitar amp. It pairs perfectly with my 10" cabinet and brings a much fuller sound with instant breakup so I can still play inside (not even level 1 on the master) and I'm sure this is more than capable for playing a club show. I don't gig but wanted the gain and full tone without getting a huge 100w head. This checked all the boxes.

Note that the lunchbox case is actually dark gray/charcoal and not black. It was a nice surprise for me but I could see some owners looking for a jet black. The included pedal and carry case were a nice touch. No complaints and I'm very happy with the moderate and high gain settings. I have other models to get the ultra clean tone, so this is my rock setup.

Krackin kraken 50 watt
Man I knew just by holding this thing I was in for a top notch ride into tonal euphoria ! I grew up in the 88-99 era of metal and as a youth I loved the high gain sepultura / Pantera stuff. As I got older I fit right into Clapton / SRV stuff ! This amp can get you all of that ! With minimal gain to gargantuan crushing high gain. I was blown away. No pedals needed….. about 10,000 sick tones can emerge from this devise. Buy one now

One of the best amps I've ever heard
This is great. It really has that chewiness and articulation I need. Ive bought and sold about a 100
amps over the last 25 years, and this one is right up there with the Soldano SLO's but half the price,
and I dont say that lightly. If you turn up the mids it gets that wah tone I adore, some dont like
that so just a point of taste for you.
Not sure why Victory gets slagged by some, way better than any Friedman, I've tried 2 of those and didnt like
either. Channel 1 gain is boosted JCM 800 tone. Channel 2 picks up where that leaves off for more post 1990
high gain sounds. The only thing is I like this so **** much I'm contemplating returning it and getting the 100
watt version

Just Silly Good
This amp is great so far. Gain 1 from noon up is a very familiar Marshall tone kinda between JCM800-900, snarly, crunchy, familiar gain that feels like home. Gain 2 is new territory for me since I've always been a Marshall guy, but I have had it at around 10 o'clock and wow that is a beautiful really high gain tone! With the Gain 1 cranked and Gain 2 pretty much set anywhere, the tones are rich and thick and snarly. Palm mutes are addictive. Both channels love a tube screamer or clean boost in front. I've had both the 6L6's and EL34's in and biasing is a simple process which I greatly appreciate. Volume is no issue at all as this amp gets louder than you will need. All this in a light, compact, very sturdy and ruggedly built package. Very impressive first experience of Victory amps!
