Reviews

Yep, this is the real deal.
FINALLY, a boom stand that inspires confidence for my large-diaphragm condensers. Its' tall, and it's heavy (around three times as heavy as a standard light-duty stand), and with two of these I can finally get the positioning I want for my drum overhead mic's, without feeling paranoid that the slightest touch will tip them over.

The photo shows the K&M tall (at right) next to a standard boom (left). Camera lens distortion aside, you can see that the standard stand, which is at full height extension, has a forward lean under the weight of the mic. The K&M tall is just a little shy of full height extension, and the vertical pipe is straight. (The tripod base of the K&M is also slightly bigger, and certainly taller by about an inch.) As you can also see, the boom arm is level and there's plenty more height available if the boom were to be angled up. The boom arm is also longer than standard, so you get some extra reach and/or height out of it.

I have bought other K&M products in the past (their "standard" mic' boom and several drum hoop mic' clamps) and I've grown to really appreciate and trust their stuff. Like all of them, the adjustment fittings on these tall booms are easy to turn and VERY secure.
I highly recommend this!

Choir micing, anyone?
Nine and a half feet is huge! The heavier base will make these Very Stable for almost every application. And the tripod base will easily take a sand-bag if you need more stability. These will be a big help.
Works for me!
As a drummer who sings a mic stand has to be right for me. This one is perfect. It stays put while I play so that when it's time to sing it's where I need it to be. I've had a zillion cheap mics and one real expensive one that failed. This one is my favorite so far!!!

K&M Boom Mic Stand
I have several K&M mic stands, so I already knew the quality was very good. I needed a tall/sturdy mic stand to put my (very heavy) Warm Audio 47 on for vocals. I also bought the K&M 21431 Mini Microphone Boom Arm to have an extra angle option. It connected perfectly. So, if you are looking at this stand, consider adding the boom arm.
I will be getting another one of these combinations to use for drum overheads.

Great intermediate priced stand for drum overheads.
If you don't want to shell out hundreds and hundreds on one of the more expensive rolling drum mic stands, these are a very solid intermediate-priced unit that does the job. I've hung fairly heavy tube mics from them (Warm Audio 67 clones) without worrying. They are fairly heavy with a heavy base and a small counterweight on the end of the boom arm. They will sway a little but won't fall down or collapse unless you really push them. I had a couple of SE filters on them at one point, so that the rear of the microphone was shielded by foam. They still held up.
