Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster Solidbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:

  • Non-traditional mahogany body
  • Made for today's metal guitarist
Designed with Slipknot's iconic guitarist

Slipknot has been churning out some of the hardest-hitting metal riffs for over a decade, thanks in no small part to the untamed tone of guitarist Jim Root. While some metal guitarists still don't know that you can serve up sonic evisceration with a Jazzmaster, Jim Root knows better - the Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster has ultra-smooth playability with high-octane output provided by EMG humbucking pickups.

Non-traditional mahogany body

While most Jazzmaster sport an alder body, Slipknot's Jim Root plays a mahogany model for its tighter low-end response and awesome sustain. The Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster holds true to his signature guitar, with a mahogany body that sets it apart from most Jazzmasters. The flat black finish and chrome EMG pickups give this metal machine an understated look. A contoured neck heel gives you access to the upper frets you need when laying down an out-of-this-world solo.

Made for today's metal guitarist

The unique offset body design of the Jazzmaster has made it a stand-out on stages across the world. Jim Root's signature Jazzmaster takes this prized instrument and tweaks it for metal, with a pair of EMG pickups and a compound-radius fretboard for effortless lead playing. All of the electronics we're stripped out except a volume control and pickup switch. Take is from the guitar experts at Sweetwater, you'll love the aggressive character of the Fender Jim Root Jazzmaster.

Reviews

Not your grandfather’s Jazzmaster
I picked up the Jim Root Jazzmaster because I wanted something stripped down, aggressive, and unapologetically focused — and it absolutely delivered.

This is not a traditional Jazzmaster, and that's exactly the point. The EMGs are tight, controlled, and incredibly articulate under gain. Palm mutes are percussive and defined, and single-note lines stay clear even with high saturation. There's zero flub in the low end. It feels surgical in the best way.

The ebony board and satin neck finish make it ridiculously fast without feeling thin. It plays modern, but still feels substantial in your hands. Sustain is impressive, and the fixed bridge setup keeps everything stable and locked in.

Clean tones surprised me most — rolling back the volume produces a dark, glassy character that works beautifully for moody passages.

If you want vintage sparkle, this isn't that.
If you want precision, control, and a dark, commanding voice — this guitar is a weapon.
Metal Master!
This guitar is so good I bought it twice! Can't get enough of it!
Angry and Beautiful
Oh, how the EMG's scream in this one. This is as advertised, a great guitar, and you won't really miss the tone knob, because it's intentionally dialed up to "10" already. That's how it's meant to be played.

Fretboard is smooth and comfortable, and the neck is very fast. I never realized how much I looked at the fretboard inlays vs. the dots on the outside part of the neck. That took getting used to, but it didn't take long. The black is just killer, and all the stuff they send you with this guitar will add to the experience. Comes with an awesome case, strap/strap locks, and certificate. 10/10, or in this case 5/5. Calvin Hull is the best sales rep too. He's always a big help. I'll never not order from Sweetwater!
Mind blowing
This is an absolute beast. Bare bones. Looks menacing. Sounds amazing. Please excuse me. I need to go play it.

Heavy and full of tone
Wanna sound just like Slipknot? Then this is the guitar for you. This is no ordinary Fender for sure. The ebony neck is my favorite part about this guitar. Fast, thick, and responsive, while also being comfortable. Love the tone and weight of the body. Honestly sounds better than my Les Paul. Would highly recommend! Case is awesome too!
