Scofield Signature Semi-hollowbody

From his beginnings as a first-call jazz sideman through his solo work and more recent funk-oriented output, guitarist John Scofield has blazed a fearless trail, moving effortlessly in and out of bop, fusion, rock, funk, blues, and soul. From its gold tuning pegs down to the Quik Change III tailpiece, the Ibanez John Scofield Signature JSM20 is a powerful reflection of this musical luminary. Super 58 humbuckers with flexible switching deliver characteristic PAF tone with massive sonic options. Beyond that, an Artstar treated bound ebony fretboard on a super-comfortable nyatoh and maple neck ensures that the JSM20 is one solid jazz box.

Configured for precision, speed, and incredible stability

One of the things that had us dragging each other to the Sweetwater showroom to marvel over the original Ibanez John Scofield model was its phenomenal stability, and we're absolutely delighted that the JSM20 follows suit perfectly. Between its set 3-piece nyatoh and maple neck and reliable Quik Change III tailpiece, the JSM20 provides you with absolutely rock-solid performance. What's more, the smooth Artstar fret-edge treatment and bound ebony fretboard make this one of the most comfortable guitars you're likely to get your hands on.

Classic humbuckers meet sophisticated tone options

The Super 58 humbuckers in the John Scofield Signature JSM20 are the same type of pickups found in John Scofield's own guitar, wired up the same way to give you a ton of tonal options. With just the 3-position toggle alone, these classic PAF-style humbuckers provide you with a beautiful range of warmth and clear projection. But there's a second 3-way toggle onboard the JSM20, which lets you switch the neck pickup from series to parallel, with a stop in the middle for single-coil tone. The tonal possibilities are absolutely astonishing!

Jaw-dropping appointments make this jazz box a real looker

Some guitars are just born classy, and the semi-hollowbody JSM20 is among this class of instruments. The JSM20's beauty extends down to the smallest details, like the gold tuning pegs and other hardware, or the binding on the top, back, and fretboard, which extends to the headstock and the F-holes. And you can't help but admire the mother-of-pearl and abalone block inlays, which seem to leap off the fretboard and capture every stray beam of light.

Ibanez John Scofield Signature JSM20 Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • An amazing semi-hollowbody electric guitar based on John Scofield's own custom Ibanez model
  • Maple top, back, and sides with a maple and nyatoh set neck provide strong and sweet fundamental frequencies
  • Super 58 humbuckers with 3-way switching and 3-way neck pickup configuration deliver massive tonal options
  • Gold hardware, including an Gibraltar Artist bridge and a Quik Change III tailpiece, look great and offer excellent stability
  • Medium frets with Artstar fret edge treatment and a bound ebony fretboard feel great and play amazingly
  • Additional appointments include mother-of-pearl and abalone block inlays and full binding

Reviews

Great guitar, great value!

I was fortunate to have an opportunity to play many semi hollow guitars from the leading brands that fit that $ price point and I was genuinely surprised that I kept coming back to Ibanez. Now that I've been playing the JSM20 for a while I am fully satisfied with my choice. The comfort, playability and tone are so good and hold up to guitars twice the price. It's a great looking guitar and the small details in the construction reinforce the feeling of quality and value. The three position switch that is unique to the JSM20 offers a totally cool and usable tonal variety. I feel good that I bumped up from the artcore to this model, the artcore are great guitars and amazing for the price. The JSM just has better overall look and sound while including a custom molded hard case. I bought this guitar without playing it first and I am fully confident this was the best guitar for my budget and preferences. Thank you Ibanez and sweetwater for providing us with the tools to make music!

If you're a Scofield fan, this will get the tone you want!
I bought this a little over a year ago because I wanted to get a jazzier sound once in a while and I've always liked the tone John Scofield gets. I have several other Ibanez guitars that have the Super 58 pickups and they are among my favorite pickups. None of those guitars sound like Scofield though, so I thought I may have to find some other pickups. I was shocked when I first got the guitar and jammed along with some of John's more recent albums. The sound of this guitar sounded so close to his recorded sound that I was amazed. The Scofield tones are all there. Now if I could just play more like him, I'll be set - ha! The action provides effortless playing and the guitar sustains like crazy. The neck is slim, but comfortable and at a little over 7 pounds, the guitar is comfortable for playing hours on end. Mine is one of the newer Indonesian-built models and the fit & finish is flawless. I own over a hundred guitars and this one is definitely one of my top 5 that I enjoy playing. If I played jazz gigs, it'd be a real no-brainer. I also love the matte black finish with the orange/cream binding. Looks very classy! Looks great, plays great and sounds great - not much more you could ask for...

Great sound and finish
I´ve two Ibanez one AM93 and this JSM20 both have a great sound and the quality of finish it´s incredible
Music background: Jazz Fusion
great versatility
I was looking for a guitar for my gospel music gig that could cover the wide range of styles that I encounter.
this guitar does it all from the Dixie hummingbirds to Kirk Franklin. it sounds and looks great, I love it
Wonderful for all around use
I wasn"t sure I would like this guitar, because I didn"t know whether I preferred the sunburst model or this black one, but it took all of about two days for me and this cutie to bon,d and it is not only a keeper, it has become my main workhorse.
The sound is terrific, it is very light, and it looks fantastic, and no problems with feedback, which is why this has replaced my archtops.
These days I only play jazz, and I"ve put 11 gage flat wound Chromes on it (I replace the wound G string with a solid one so that I can do bends) and I get a beautiful sound - people keep complimenting me on it. I sold an American made guitar for quite a bit more money because no matter how I tried I couldn"t get a jazz sound I was happy with, whereas with this guitar I get jazz to country to rock... easy, straight out of the box, with great sounds from both pickups
The finish and construction are impeccable.
That said, I had to spend some extra money for a good setup - the nut slots were high and the intonation poor, but once that was taken care of with my preferred strings, this little axe turned into a total gem at a very reasonable price.
