The New Drive on the Block

A powerful re-imagining of JHS Pedals’ “strong mod” overdrive modificaiton, the new 3 Series Screamer packs defined and dirty overdrive into an intuitive stompbox that’s super affordable. The 3 Series Screamer pairs classic overdrive circuitry with gain improvements and a 2-way clipping toggle (symmetrical and asymmetrical) that lets you dial in a 3-knob-style tone that works with your rig. Guitarists can skip the exorbitant vintage market prices with this 3 Series pedal and dive straight into lifted overdrive tones without the sticker shock. Here at Sweetwater, our pedal enthusiasts really love the 3 Series Screamer’s wide range of volume and gain. It raises the noise floor on classic screamer pedals and makes for a great standalone drive, but it also works well as a colored boost or a focusing element for high-gain tones.

Built for versatility

The 3 Series Screamer features a raised noise floor for more volume, headroom, and versatility than the coveted vintage green overdrive pedals. Its emphasized mid frequencies and attenuated bass produce a distinct lifted overdrive tone that takes amps to the edge of breakup. It’s perfect for flavoring clean tones, saturating lead lines, or giving extra-dirty tone more focus and definition. Plus, the 3 Series Screamer also works great as a colored boost for parts that need to sparkle and cut through a mix! For extra customization, the pedal’s 2-way toggle switch allows picking different clipping modes: symmetrical for classic overdrive grit with more focus and sustain, or asymmetrical “strong mod” clipping for a wider overdrive that’s rough and loose around the edges.

JHS Pedals: yesterday’s students of today’s tone

By making himself an apprentice connoisseur of famous pedals, Josh Scott now produces modern tone tools for discerning players everywhere, all the while growing JHS into an undisputed titan of contemporary pedals. For years, Josh has pursued a low-key obsession with vintage green overdrives. The original JHS “strong mod” came from countless tinkering sessions and lots of research — these sessions led to multiple improvements, specifically extra grit and gain that still cling tightly to the defined midrange and cut of classic pedals. A culmination of relentless research, the 3 Series Screamer feels timeless and inspiring, with a balanced yet fierce sound that deserves a spot on your pedalboard.

JHS 3 Series Screamer Features:

  • Classic over-driven tones with more gain range and a modern design
  • Classic and intuitive 3-knob layout
  • Toggle switch with 2 modes: classic symmetrical clipping or “strong mod” asymmetrical clipping
  • Emphasized amp headroom for organic tonal depth and dynamic frequency response
  • Seasons clean tones with saturated breakup or subtle drive and can tighten up high-gain tones with extra midrange definition
  • More boost functionality than old-school versions
  • Made in the USA in Kansas City, Mo.

Reviews

A SCREAMER FOR THE REST OF US
I own half a dozen different "Tube Screamers™" including a recent Ibanez issue. With the release of this SCREAMER, JHS has given the world an affordable quality distortion with a wider range of tones, amazing touch sensitivity, both types of Screamer distortion (via the toggle switch), all packed in an easy to use stompbox. I own ALL the 3-Series by JHS and they're all good, this one is a new favorite.

Cleans-up when you turn your guitar volume down, lots of delicious crunch and scream tone.

As soon as I saw it I ordered it. JHS once again proves they know pedals.

Good music to all!

Great TS Pedal
Lots of volume on tap. Great mid bump, has a smooth and crisp tone. Sounds like a cross between a TS9 and a TS10 to my ears.

The toggle switch brings some extra presence when toggled up and a bit more warmth when toggled down.

Sounds great with the volume and drive around 10 o'clock and stacked with a low gain transparent OD.

Overall killer TS pedal at a great price. Thanks so much!

Don't Let the Price Fool You!
JHS Series 3 Pedals are inexpensive but not cheap! I have an original Ibanez TS808 and this sounds just as good with some improvements with the clipping options. As always my sales engineer Jason F. is awesome and helpful with issues and questions.
Music background: Retired Professional
Does what it says
I have a Tom Morello MXR power 50 (it's advertised as an overdrive but it's a JCM 800 'amp in a box'). It does not work well as a stand alone overdrive in my opinion (I'm not hating on this pedal, it just isn't your standard overdrive), I feel that it has too much bandwidth.
However, I just purchased a JHS screamer, I instantly noticed an improvement in my tone. What I like (which I realize might not be for everyone) is that it compresses my sound, and adds a clarity that I couldn't get before at certain levels of gain. Works well with the power 50.
Music background: Amateur guitar player
Killer pedal a great price.
Josh at JHS is a rock start and these made in USA pedals are a no brainier if you need a "screamer" style pedal.
