JHS 3 Series Screamer Pedal Reviews
A powerful re-imagining of JHS Pedals’ “strong mod” overdrive modificaiton, the new 3 Series Screamer packs defined and dirty overdrive into an intuitive stompbox that’s super affordable. The 3 Series Screamer pairs classic overdrive circuitry with gain improvements and a 2-way clipping toggle (symmetrical and asymmetrical) that lets you dial in a 3-knob-style tone that works with your rig. Guitarists can skip the exorbitant vintage market prices with this 3 Series pedal and dive straight into lifted overdrive tones without the sticker shock. Here at Sweetwater, our pedal enthusiasts really love the 3 Series Screamer’s wide range of volume and gain. It raises the noise floor on classic screamer pedals and makes for a great standalone drive, but it also works well as a colored boost or a focusing element for high-gain tones.

For my Mk 5/35
Love it!! it gives me that little push I was looking for for my lead tone (ala Satriani)
without changing my passive pickup tone and response.
It's a keeper...
I bought this to add a little extra mustard to a recently acquired Vox ac30s1. It absolutely does the trick. Along with a P90's Tele, the combination is deadly!
But as always, the real star of the show is Sweetwater's over the top commitment to customer service. As always, and for many years now, Ian Lemberg is a rock star resource.
An improved screamer circuit for a great price
While a Boss SD1 may be my favorite "boost/overdrive" pedal no one can deny the effect on music that a Tube Screamer has had. A vintage TS will run you a small fortune. In addition you'll have to deal with that pesky switch. Or you could get a Maxon and deal with the "should've gotten an Ibanez" from the folks that don't know any better. You could buy the Bonsai tree and get all of the versions and end up on this one only...
Or for 99 bucks you get a brand new pedal with modern updates. It's a no brainer.
Great pedal preamp
I use this 3rd in my signal, wah, tuner, screamer) and it interacts so well with the guitar and the rest of the pedal chain. I use it with gain at 0 and the others at noon. I just let the compression, boost, and color of the screamer do its thing and I adjust the rest of the pedals to it. I do enjoy the overdrive tone but I use this in the classic way that screamers, klons, and other "always on" effects are used. With subtly. I prefer the switch in the down position. "Up" gives a more transparent feel. The overall reason I love this is because it's like adding a "tight" switch to your whole rig. Do it. Buy it. The JHS YouTube channel alone is enough to donate your hard earned cash to these guys.
A SCREAMER FOR THE REST OF US
I own half a dozen different "Tube Screamers™" including a recent Ibanez issue. With the release of this SCREAMER, JHS has given the world an affordable quality distortion with a wider range of tones, amazing touch sensitivity, both types of Screamer distortion (via the toggle switch), all packed in an easy to use stompbox. I own ALL the 3-Series by JHS and they're all good, this one is a new favorite.
Cleans-up when you turn your guitar volume down, lots of delicious crunch and scream tone.
As soon as I saw it I ordered it. JHS once again proves they know pedals.
Good music to all!
This thing screams
Beautiful, full sounding pedal. Tones are clear, warm, and bright when it needs to be. For the price, its hard to beat. It does what it's supposed to do.
Great TS Pedal
Lots of volume on tap. Great mid bump, has a smooth and crisp tone. Sounds like a cross between a TS9 and a TS10 to my ears.
The toggle switch brings some extra presence when toggled up and a bit more warmth when toggled down.
Sounds great with the volume and drive around 10 o'clock and stacked with a low gain transparent OD.
Overall killer TS pedal at a great price. Thanks so much!
Time to retire my other screamers
Already a fan of the 3 series, I snatched this up as soon as they were released.
The "-" mode can get very close to a stock TS-9, but you have to turn down the tone a good deal. It makes the TS-9 sound muddy because the Screamer is more hi-fidelity.
The "+" mode sounds to me like a mix between a SD-1 and the TS808, but with a better mid response and waaaay more total frequency response. It has that chewyness of the SD-1, but the 'grains' are smaller. Definitely a favorite new OD flavor for me.
Tried it with both a SSS Strat and a Les Paul into a Deluxe Reverb Reissue on the verge of breakup. Very pleased!
good pedal
sounds good SCREAMS

Fantastic. Ryan Clapper did an excellent job teaching me how to use it. Excellent employee. Thanks y for him. Wouldn't let me give full 5 star review for some reason.
JHS Series 3 Screamer
Arguably the two most versatile TS options from the Bonsai pedal are here: the TS9 and JHS strong mod, one a terrific base OD tone or gritty clean boost, the other an outstanding high headroom and cleaned up screamer circuit that boosts exceptionally well or offers a shiny cleaner TS style overdrive. And it's very affordable and simple to dial in. As well built as any other JHS pedal I've used too.
Meh...
To be clear, I'm a big fan of Josh and JHS pedals. I love tubescreamers and like to sorta collect them. However this one doesn't really do anything for me. It's still a very well made, quality JHS product but I just wasn't crazy for the tone on this one. I'd love to get my hands on a JHS Bonsi (I have the Rat Pack which is fantastic) For the same price, I think the EQD Plumes is a better buy.
