A Hard-rocking Axe with Timeless Visual Appeal

Thanks to its radical shape, the Iceman has long been one of Ibanez's most spotlight-ready models, so much so that Paul Stanley of the band Kiss has favored it for the bulk of his decades-long career. The Ibanez Iceman IC420 is a prime example of this head-turning solidbody electric guitar. The IC420 is carved from a solid slab of okoume and features a 3-piece set-in okoume neck, which gives it a brilliant, sustaining acoustic tone with truckloads of bite. Its Super 80 humbuckers are genuine scorchers, arming you with a bright PAF-inspired sound and enough output to give your amplifier a good spanking. This photogenic axe's performance-ready hardware consists of a Gibraltar Performer fixed bridge, a Quik Change III tailpiece, and Ibanez tuners. Gleaming gold hardware and a light-catching gloss polyurethane finish round out the inimitable Iceman IC420.

Head-turning Iceman styling

Boasting an Iceman-shaped okoume body and a 3-piece set-in okoume neck, the IC420 delivers a bright acoustic tone with ample sustain and a menacing bite that cuts through a busy mix effortlessly. Its jatoba fingerboard sports 22 medium-sized frets, supplying an outstanding platform for unleashing all your pent-up fretboard wizardry. The Iceman IC420 sports eye-catching cream binding throughout, along with stunning acrylic and abalone parallelogram fingerboard inlays and a spotlight-ready gloss polyurethane finish.

Super 80 humbuckers are ready to rock

The Ibanez Iceman IC420 is equipped with a set of the company's Super 80 humbuckers. These ceramic-loaded pups are piping hot, yielding an exquisite blend of power and fidelity. They're also potted to safeguard against unwanted microphonic squeals. No matter what you plug into, the IC420 will churn out a bright, punchy sound with truckloads of articulation. Finally, these Super 80 humbuckers include chrome covers with eye-popping etched "flying finger" designs.

Near-bulletproof hardware

The guitarists here at Sweetwater have long been fans of the Iceman IC420's roadworthy design, especially its rock-solid hardware. This solidbody electric guitar comes equipped with a Gibraltar Performer bridge. This adjustable Tune-o-matic-style fixed bridge maximizes sustain while also allowing for precise, per-string intonation. The bridge is paired with a Quik Change III tailpiece that's built to withstand aggressive playing styles and makes string changes a piece of cake. You also get ultra-reliable Ibanez tuning machine heads.

Great guitar in the legendary shape we all love :)

Fantastic! FINALLY! Love these new IC420s. I got the Blue model from Sweetwater. - it is beautiful. Been a fan of these since 1977 (thanks Paul S.) so I'm quite biased. Also got a IC420VLS flamed top, too.
Gotta be honest - i've waited for 40 years for Ibanez to release a flamed top Iceman. I bought a new IC400 Cherry Sunburst in 1982 from Sam Ash. It has a very similar tight-grained maple top. So - I'm in heaven with this new flamed top, sorta tobacco burst. Actually - a 3 tone burst with a surprising amount of red in direct sunlight. I mean - shockingly so. I have pics of my 420 in the sunlight and the dark brown part of the sunburst goes away - almost entirely! It's really super coool!! The gig bag is really nice - they ship inside the bag and my three have no damage from transport.
SOUND: Super great! just the right amount of clarity & growl and loosens up nice as gainy forces push more gristle out. You'll need a larger cable to handle the available gristle as this thing, with the right amp, will singe your Greg Koch until numerous and copious delights twinkle your strings into searing highs and punchy packed rock tones are an Iceman's home turf. Don't underestimate the Iceman, though, with your occasional or frequent need for Jazz, country, lickety split or airy ambient long repeats of 2 note phrases reverb their way around the room. Some people report pickups to microphonic for super loud high-gain use.
WEIGHT: 8.2 pounds, US
FEELS LIKE: . Easy stroking to screaming froth - the new IC420 Iceman delivers!
PREDJUDICE: Made in China - and there is nothing wrong with that at all! This easily worth the 800 bucks. Sure - I'd like it cheaper too...but if it was from S.Korea or Indonesia I don't think it'd be better.
SUCKS: Ok - though - that Les Paul copy neck joint should be contoured like the original PS10 or IC400 from 1978 - totally smooth! I wonder why manufacturers don't ALL make smooth neck heels in 2024! Even most bolt-on necks are now smoothed and have any easier "handshake" - to quote "Know Your Gear" podcast. .
FINALLY: Don't stop yourself from buying at least one - maybe two or three . ENJOY IT! thanks.

Nice guitar but

Overall very nice guitar. Not a big fan of lighter color fretboards but mine is darker than most so it's good. The only issue for me is the pickups. If you play with any kind of gain they will squeal big a pig so much so I had to change the bridge out to make it usable in my situation. You can't reuse the covers as they are similar to tar backs. Molded solid encased so that was a no go to reuse. It would have been 5 stars but the pickups are not suitable for me.
