Solid Electric Guitar at a Great Price

Ibanez has crafted the quality, affordable electric guitar you're looking for. Continuing their GIO series, the Ibanez GRX70 is an excellent electric that features a poplar body, maple neck, and jatoba fingerboard for solid tone. In addition, neck, middle, and bridge Infinity pickups are featured, bringing you killer variety in tone and amplified attack. Many guitarists here at Sweetwater have cut their teeth on the Ibanez GRX70 and have found it to be a great beginner electric.

Powerful pickups

Three Infinity RS pickups are featured on the Ibanex GRX70, bringing you a wide array of sounds and stylings. Two powerful ceramic-magnet humbucking pickups, one at the neck, the other at the bridge, give you high output without the muddiness. The middle single-coil pickup uses Alnico magnets to produce a super-clear vintage tone. The GRX70 is great for exploring a variety of styles. From the clear and warm sounds of country to the gritty, driving sounds of rock and metal, the Ibanez GRX70 allows you to explore and find your own unique voice as a player.

Amazing neck feel

When it comes to the guitar, the neck is central to how an instrument feels and plays in your hands. A guitar is only as playable as its neck. The Ibanez GRX70 has a smooth, fast-playing maple neck with jatoba fingerboard — a time-tested favorite among the guitar-playing world. The comfortable neck of the GRX70 features medium-sized frets that make playing chords and notes smooth and nearly effortless.

Dive-bomb and vibrato

From huge dive-bombs to subtle vibrato to stutter-like warbling, the Ibanez GRX70's FAT 6 tremolo bridge is ready for anything you throw at it. When not in use, the tremolo is solid and in tune; when in use, it does your bidding down to the microtone. Whether you need the tremolo for cool '50s-era dips or massive metal dives, the Ibanez GRX70 is ready.

Ibanez GRX70 Electric Guitar Features:

  • GRX maple neck for smooth playability
  • Quilted maple art grain top/poplar body for solid tone
  • Jatoba fretboard is easy on the fingers while shredding
  • FAT-6 tremolo bridge gives you options for stylized attack

Great practice / beginners guitar

I bought this guitar so it could be my practice guitar and it has not disappointed. It came with minor defects which were all fixable. The output jack was a little lose which was fixed in like 1 minute and the pickups were a little high. The strings were low quality but that's expected for a $ guitar. Surprisingly the setup required was minimal but honestly these guitars are super easy to set up and for $ is a great tool to practice in if you dont know how to set up a guitar yet. Now to the good parts about it. It honestly plays super smooth and sounds amazing for $. Its light and it really feels like your hands glides across the fretboard. Never had an ibanez guitar before but I am super impressed with quality control. If you are a new player or are looking for a practice guitar to have around. I couldnt think of a better guitar than this one. It beats any squiers or epiphones at the price.

Furthermore, buying from Sweetwater was an amazing experience. They were super helpful and very interested that my product gets here in good conditions. I recommend this place over guitar center.

But what do I know?

I am very happy with this guitar. But I'm probably easy to satisfy being a rank amateur. The price was great, the finish is beautiful. I think I bought a great beginner electric.

Great affordable guitar!

I've had this guitar for 8 years now and honestly for the money you can't beat it. My first guitar was a Squier Strat and I prefer the Ibanez Gio. I feel like the quality of "cheap" guitars has improved so much over the years that you get to a point of diminishing returns the more money you spend. The sweet spot is probably around $800-1000 today, but not everyone has that kind of money to spend on a guitar. If you're one of those people you won't be disappointed with this guitar. It doesn't look or feel cheap.

Great Guitar, Perfection all of it!
Rated 5/5

Great for beginners

Bought this for my daughter that wanted to learn how to play. Instead of choosing one for her I let her decide which one she wanted. After showing her several dozen guitars she settled on this one. I have owned several Ibanez guitars and all of them have been fantastic guitars but I was a little hesitant due to the price point. I mean, for $... how good could it be?

She played it for a few hours and loved every minute of it. After she went to bed I pulled it off the rack to check it out. I was really surprised to find it's a solid instrument. Intonation was perfect, dead on. The action was 1.5 mm to 2.2 mm. on the 12th fret. The neck felt great and was easy to navigate. No dead spots or fret buzz anywhere. Off to a great start.

The pickups in the guitar were a little too high. After backing them down a bit the guitar really came into its own. They aren't great by any means but not bad either.

Overall it's better than expected and I would recommend this to any beginner looking for a guitar that is easy to play, easy to set up, and ready to go right out of the box. It is easily one of the best starter guitars I have ever played. 5 stars for being exactly what it was marketed to be and then some.
Music background: Was a gig musician, played in bands, now just play for fun. 25 years playing guitar, 10 playing drums.
