The Classic Semi-hollowbody Electric

The Gibson ES-335 Satin is the quintessential Gibson ES (Electric Spanish) guitar. The first “thinline” archtop of its kind, the historic ES-335 is considered the standard for semi-hollowbody guitars to this day. With impeccable sounds across its wide-ranging tonal palette, the ES-335 can be found in the hands of jazz, blues, and rock players all over the globe. For 2020, Gibson brings the ES-335 Satin to you with all the same exquisite craftsmanship and detailed appointments that made the original a smash hit when it was introduced in 1958. And as a central feature, it features a satisfyingly rounded "C" neck profile that harkens back to Gibson’s vaunted instruments of the late 1950s.

One of a kind

From its first appearance in 1958, the Gibson ES-335 set an unmatched standard for playability, and today’s ’335 Satin carries on the tradition. The pearloid dot-inlaid rosewood fingerboard hand-rolled on a rounded "C" mahogany neck feels incredible and invites hours of playing every time you pick up the instrument. Gibson’s Calibrated T-Type humbucking pickups are paired with the company’s handwired control assembly. The result is the immensely versatile Gibson ES tone that guitarists have craved for over six decades. Precise intonation and tuning stability are provided by Vintage Deluxe tuners with Keystone buttons, paired with a lightweight aluminum ABR-1 bridge and Stopbar tailpiece.

Quality tonewoods, superb electronics

This ’335 also features a 3-ply maple/poplar/maple top and back, while a solid maple center block and a premium mahogany neck make up the rest of the quality tonewoods used in this superb guitar. The center block — a new concept when it was first seen in ’58, gives you the warm tonal characteristics of an archtop jazz guitar along with the sustain and feedback-resistance of a solidbody when playing at higher volumes. For blazing amplified sound, the ES-335 Satin comes with T-Type humbucking pickups and custom tone circuitry, giving you a massive range of stylistic options for performance.

Legendary tone from T-Type humbuckers

Tonal excellence is yours when you plug the Gibson ES-335 Satin into your favorite tube amplifier. Loaded with a pair of calibrated T-Type humbucking pickups, each with its own volume and tone controls, you’ll be able to dial in chiming country tones as easily as savagely distorted rock tones. The neck pickup gives you classic hollowbody-style tones for everything from jazz to dirty blues. Flip to the bridge position, and you’ll command sounds covering everything from bright and clean to raw and mean. The guitar gurus here at Sweetwater all concur: playing this guitar is a sublime experience.

Plek’d frets for optimized playability

Comfort and playability were two of Gibson’s primary concerns when they were designing the ES-335 Satin. You’ll be delighted at how this guitar’s rounded "C" neck profile comfortably fills your hand in just the right way. For your playing pleasure, the rosewood fingerboard is buffed to silky smoothness and bound with rolled edges so no fret ends impede your dexterity. The frets are dressed to perfection using a Plek Pro machine for optimized playability. Typically reserved for top-dollar custom guitars, this process levels the frets with pinpoint precision, providing you with the most playable fretboard you’re likely to own.

Shiny new ES-335
What a beautiful look and feel! My shiny, new Gibson ES-335 is worth every penny. It took me a little longer than expected, but since August 7th I am enjoying its superlative tone and playability. It even smells great!! At first the neck feel a little strange as I was used to the Washburn HB35 that it is replacing, as well as a Strat and Les Paul I also play. But after a few days I am really growing into its wood. Once home, I changed the stock 10s to 11-49. Much better. Great instrument, really. I must thank Sweetwater for a 'sweet' deal, and specially Mr. Edward Vigen. The man did a great job of seeing this purchase through, ever since I first asked about the guitar mid-February. I appreciate the tome, patience and diligence displayed by Edward. No wonder This company has grown so much. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

Bucket List Guitar
I have always wanted a 335 with satin finish, thanks to Sweetwater that became a reality! Plays like a dream, sounds amazing, and is one of the most versatile guitars I have ever played. If you are able to get your hands on one of these beauties, do not hesitate. Definitely worth the investment.

Gypsy Red
My new ES 335 is a fantastic guitar. It is very easy to play and it has that beautifully rich tone that only comes from a Gibson. I am very proud of it.I have a Martin,a Fender Stratocaster, and a Paul Reid Smith also and I really like all of them but I like my ES 335 the best.
Music background: I have been playing for 60 years.

Cherry red Gibson 335
Pretty close to a dream guitar here. A cherry red Gibson 335! From Gibson to Sweetwater to me, it arrived almost perfectly in tune. Better value than a more expensive dot, I'm guessing. There is nothing about this guitar I don't like. The "T" pickups are pretty basic. You clearly hear a blues/jazz sound on one and more of a rock sound on the other. Simple (for a change). I really like my Fender American Performer Strat and PRS CE, but this might end up being my goto. You can say that an Epiphone is just as good at a fraction of the price... but that's your opinion. I like this one.
Music background: Hobbyist

From rockers to jazz cats, there are generations of guitarists right here at Sweetwater who swear by Gibson guitars. Not only do they make many of the most iconic solidbody electric guitars of all time - the Les Paul, the SG, the Flying V - but they also produce classic hollowbody and semi-hollowbody models and some of the most iconic acoustic guitars on the planet. We play them all! Our close relationship with Gibson often allows us to stock exclusive models and rare finds, and we're always happy to turn players and collectors on to the gems in the Sweetwater Guitar Gallery. We also have access to all the latest Gibson hardware, and the Sweetwater Guitar Repair Shop has upgraded countless guitars with their top-of-the-line humbuckers, classic P-90s, and more.
