Epiphone's Version of Slash's Touring Axe

Slash's Les Paul collection is arguably as celebrated as the Guns N' Roses axeman himself. The Epiphone Slash Les Paul Standard is Epi's version of one of the legendary guitarist's favorite touring instruments. This solidbody electric guitar is a Les Paul afficionado's dream, with enough Gibson-inspired features to fill a snakepit and a real-world price tag that's guaranteed to put a dog-eat-dog sly smile on your face. The Slash Les Paul Standard boasts classic maple-on-mahogany construction, which includes a figured maple veneer top that's guaranteed to turn heads. This exquisite rock machine features a comfortable Slash-custom "C"-shaped neck and an easy-playing Indian Laurel fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets, along with a set of vintage-voiced Custom ProBucker pickups, high-quality wiring, and Epiphone strap locks. The Epi Slash Les Paul Standard also includes color-coordinated hardware, Slash’s "Scully" signature drawing on the back of the headstock, and a truss rod cover with a facsimile of Slash's signature, and a custom hardshell case.

Classic construction with Slash’s personal touches

The Epi Slash Les Paul Standard conjures the vibe of the influential Gibson guitars Slash has used during his career. It includes a mahogany body, a AAA flame maple veneer top, and a super-comfortable Slash Custom "C"-shaped neck. The electronics consist of Epiphone Custom ProBucker pickups along with CTS potentiometers with Orange Drop capacitors. You also get color-coordinated hardware components, Slash’s "Scully" signature drawing on the back of the headstock, and a truss rod cover with a facsimile of Slash's signature. Guitarists here at Sweetwater are genuine Les Paul connoisseurs, and they love the sound, look, and feel of this guitar.

Epiphone's acclaimed ProBucker pickups

The key ingredient to the Les Paul's early success was the PAF humbucking pickups. The first of its kind to hit the mainstream, the Patent Applied For humbuckers defined the sound of a generation with their fat tone and clear response. With the price of vintage PAFs skyrocketing, Epiphone set out to create their own PAF-style pickup. Thus, the ProBucker humbucking pickup was born. Inspired by the original PAF sound, these pickups feed your appetite with full overwound tones and incredible clarity. When you plug the Epiphone Slash Les Paul Standard into your favorite British-style amplifier, you'll instantly recognize the top-hatted one's signature Les Paul punch.

Slash: hard rock royalty

Slash is renowned as one of the greatest guitarists in rock 'n' roll history. In the waning years of the 1980s, Slash's bluesy, scorched-earth licks brought rock guitar to its knees, forewarning big changes on the horizon. While many of his peers dominated MTV with flamboyant super axes and hyper-processed guitar tones, Slash simply plugged a Les Paul into a cranked British stack, wailed away, and left an indelible mark in music history. The Epiphone Slash Les Paul Standard culls many features from his high-end Gibson signature models, providing you with a Slash-inspired solidbody electric guitar that won't drain your wallet.

Epiphone Slash Les Paul Standard Features:

  • Resonant mahogany body exhibits incredible warmth and sustain
  • AAA figured maple veneer top ensures a head-turning look
  • Laurel-capped Slash-custom "C"-shaped neck supplies unbelievable playability
  • Custom ProBucker humbucking pickups feed your appetite with old-school PAF tones
  • CTS potentiometers with Orange Drop capacitors ensure spot-on vintage tone
  • Epiphone strap locks safeguard against axe droppage
  • Boasts color-coordinated hardware, Slash’s "Scully" signature drawing on the back of the headstock, and a truss rod cover with a facsimile of Slash's signature
  • Includes a custom hardshell case

Anaconda Burst Sizzles

The burst is beautiful! Mine has really defined wood graine's on the top that really standout with the green and black color.

Weight - on par with the Gibson LP's that I own and not to heavy (8 lbs.)
Binding - great job on the binding all the way around. There's a tiny abrasion on the binding on the underside of the neck at the 7th fret but it can't be seen, only felt.
Pickups - great sound. They have both a crunch and a growl to them and really have a punch. Also sound great on the clear channel. The sustain is really good during string bends and can hold for 5-8 seconds.
Knobs - work as they should
Rhythm/Treble switch - works as expected.
Neck - I love the C neck on this. It fills my hand and is easy and smooth to play. The neck has a slight amount of relief in it, which is exactly what a guitar neck is supposed to have.
Fretboard - smooth with no fret sprouting. There is a dead note on the low E 20th fret, but it's a note I'll never play so it doesn't bother me.
Tuners - I'm not impressed with the tunning keys. They are a cheap hollow plastic, and I would have expected better on a guitar that is fashioned by a great lead guitarist like Slash. I have other Epiphones that are half the price as this guitar that have better tunning keys. But I knew what I was getting when I bought this guitar so I'm not taking away any Stars for it.
Guitar hard shell case - great case, really sturdy.

I had to oil the fretboard when I got this because it was really, really dry. I also lowered the bridge to adjust the string height and did a slight adjustment on the bridge pickup.

Overall, I love this electric guitar! It feels great and is amazing to play.

A beast

Well there was a lot of negative speculation about this line, most about the pups and lack of any high end parts like the 59's. Now as an owner of a Anaconda I sit with a smile while I watch them disappear off the websites. The neck is nice and chunky and feels better in my hand over a 59 neck but the pups blew me away and I hope they sell these as replacements as I would swap all my probuckers for these customs. They also beat out my SD Saturday night specials and go toe to toe with my Gibson's with burstbucker 61's. Fit and finish equal to gibson other than poly vs nitro. Has more sustain than my gibson standard and has that tone that Slash is known for and my only wish is if it would of had a darker fretboard. Also has a nice case. All in all I'm very pleased.

Great Guitar Great Job Sweetwater

This Guitar is my new #1! Let's start with the 55 point inspection. Ricky H you need to own this! Great job checking out this guitar! The only thing is the action is a little high. But not a deal breaker. Stays in tune and sounds great! Thanks Sami Pikel and Kurt Martin! The Dynamic Duo! You guys rock! Now onto the guitar. When I opened the case,I was floored! Man this thing looks
better in person than in the pic's! Not taking away anything from the guys in the guitar gallery, but when you open the case and that green guitar pops in that red lined case! Wow! Nice flame! (It's why I picked this guitar)! The sound is respectable. I had to dial it in. But when you do that. It really sounds great! Plus the fact it stays in tune! These are a real value for the money, (Nice case included). Pick out your favorite color, you won't be disappointed!

For the PRICE, it's NICE

It seems lately Epiphone has really upped their game. This axe is just gorgeous, good hardware, plays nice, sounds good. Granted, I will probably replace the pickups with Duncan Slash alnico 2's eventually, but still. Compared to the Gibson it's like 80-90% there (I have a Gibson Slash in Rosa Corsa red to compare). The only thing I really wish they would change is the poly gloss finish, it's just TOO shiny, gives is a plastic-y look....please go to nitro!! Other than that, no complaints and the Anaconda green finish just kills!!

E

I have this same exact guitar but in the Blueberry Burst. I love this guitar and nothing against the Gibson name. They worked hard to claim their Crown. This model is a beautiful piece of art that can actually be used much to the pleasure of the owner. I can't say anything that these reviews covered were great. No one mentioned to check the frets with the " rubbing a Kleenex down the sides of the neck to ensure they were filed smoothly and that neck was perfech!! Smooth as a panel of glass. This model will be compared to the Casino hollow body from the '60s in the coming years, You couldn't ask for more from a high-end guitar on a working man's budget. You can play it for the rest of your life and pass on as an heirloom in the end. I'll never part with mine. Great job Epiphone & Slash.
