Value-packed '60s-style Thunderbird Bass

Enjoy the look, feel, and vibe of an early '60s Thunderbird bass with the Epiphone Thunderbird 60s Bass. It packs a pair of Epiphone's ProBucker 760TM humbucking bass pickups, designed to replicate Gibson's original Thunderbird pickups. The replica mid-'60s Tune-o-matic bridge sits atop a vintage-style "claw" tailpiece, while open-gear "Clover" tuning machines with 17:1 ratio combines an old-school look with precision tuning performance. Complete with a 7-piece walnut/mahogany neck with through-body design and mahogany body wings, the Epiphone Thunderbird 60s Bass is a great value in a vintage-themed bass guitar.

Based on the classic 1960's Thunderbird bass

Building upon the long-term success of the Thunderbird bass, Epiphone offers the Thunderbird 60s Bass Bass as a faithful replica of early-'60s Thunderbirds. This is THE original "rock and roll" bass, with the distinctive shape and traditional design elements — all for a price that the working bassist can afford. The Thunderbird 60s Bass features a rock-solid, nine-piece neck with through-body construction.

Great tone from dual humbucking pickups

Epiphone's ProBucker 760TM humbucking pickups are tuned to replicate the glorious thump of Gibson's original 1960s Thunderbird pickups. For tone shaping, you've got a separate volume knob for each pickup, giving you access to blended pickup tones you can't achieve with a traditional three-way pickup selector. A master tone control lets you dial in just the right amount of top-end snap.

Epiphone Thunderbird 60s Bass Features:

  • Solidbody bass guitar based on early-'60s Gibson Thunderbird
  • Rock-solid construction with 7-piece mahogany/walnut neck-through design with mahogany wings
  • Open-gear "Clover" tuners with 17:1 ratio combine vintage looks with precise tuning
  • Epiphone ProBucker 760TM humbucking pickups are designed to replicate original Gibson Thunderbird pickups
  • Individual pickup volume knobs plus Master Tone control, all with old-school top-hat knobs
  • Tune-o-matic bridge with "claw" tailpiece

Awesome for the price!

This was my first epiphone and let me just say the quality for what you pay is quite impressive. Great build quality for a sub 1k bass!

NICE VINAGE SOUND!

I really like my P- Bass, but it can't compare to the sound that come from the T- Bird!

Still the best Thunderbird from Gibson/Epi since the '60s.

I have owned a '64 IV since 1981, so that's the gold standard for me and the sound that's been in my head for decades. Having said that, the Epi is very well built. I have two (burst and white), and both are well above their price. I also have a '76, a '06 modern Gibson (which does not sound like a vintage Thunderbird at all), a '21 Non-reverse and a '64 Epi Embassy. The VP/60s is by far as close as you can get to the vintage tone without spending thousands on a Lull or something of that nature, or a Greco that will also cost more if you can find one. One secret is Epi, unlike modern Gibsons, had the good sense to put the pickups in almost the exact locations of the 60s, and this makes a huge difference compared to modern Gibsons.
The Epi can lack some bigness and depth of the 60s--but amps have knobs that turn and strings will make a huge difference. Like any bass, not every string (even your current fav) will necessarily be a great match. Boomers sound great (add depth and punch), Dean Markley Blue Steels, and even GHS Precision flats are amazing. EB Cobalt flats also sound great. Want the closest thing to the real deal without spending $$$$? The Epi is the next best thing to the real deal.
Music background: Been playing decades.

Great bass

Get this bass! It won't break the bank and sounds better than your P or J bass. Great midrange sound. Don't have to turn up to be heard. This instrument cuts through the mix and gives you that necessary bombastic bottom. Seriously this is a great bass, awesome sound, comfortable neck. T.B. the sales associate was super helpful and made this purchase incredibly stress free. He answered all of my questions and the fact the he himself is a musician was very helpful.
Music background: Been gigging 30years plus.
