Solid-top Acoustic-electric with Vintage Vibe and a Big Voice

In the Yamaha A1R Dreadnought, Yamaha offers a vintage look, excellent volume in the low-mid ranges, and great playability. With a solid Sitka spruce top and rosewood back and sides, this guitar sounds fantastic. The Yamaha A1R Dreadnought takes full advantage of Yamaha's acclaimed SRT pickup for recording and stage performance. With its traditional System 66 preamp, you get volume, a built-in tuner, a 3-band EQ, and automatic midrange frequency control with a convenient slider.

Modern audio engineering with vintage style

The Yamaha A1R Dreadnought has a traditional western body cutaway, allowing its lows and highs to resonate fully and project well through its circular soundhole. The western cutaway gives it a classic look, and because it offers better access to the upper frets, soloing is easier, as you can reach higher treble notes more comfortably. Sweetwater fingerstyle players love that!

Quality tonewoods plus classic design equal outstanding sound

Sitka spruce is highly valued for guitar tops — and for good reason. This select grade of stiff but elastic softwood is equally suited to aggressive strumming, flatpicking, and even fingerpicking styles of play. The Yamaha A1R Dreadnought features a solid Sitka top with rosewood back and sides, producing warm, balanced tones from low to high end. This guitar looks, sounds, and plays great.

Studio sound onstage

Normally you can best hear a guitar's subtle nuances when it's miked in the studio, but the Yamaha A1M Dreadnought has Yamaha's SRT pickup, which brings those wonderful acoustic sounds to the stage. Further customization is provided through the AMF midrange frequency adjustment on the preamp control panel.

Yamaha A1R Dreadnought Features:

  • Traditional western cutaway acoustic-electric
  • Solid Sitka spruce top with rosewood back and sides for rich, warm tone
  • SRT pickup brings studio quality sound to the performance stage

Yamaha A1R
I took a gamble on this guitar several years back and ordered it without ever hearing or playing it. It arrived in playable condition right out of the box. It only required an extremely small amount of tuning.
I still have it. I also have a Taylor 224 ce-k DLX. It's hard to choose which would be my favorite to play.
I find no fault in this guitar at all. It's loud and clear. The workmanship is right up there with much more expensive guitars. I've had pickers that were way better than me play it and be solidly impressed. I can't see you going wrong with this one.

Amazing Guitar At A Budget Friendly Price
This guitar sound amazing. Excellent bass response, sparkling treble with a very balanced overall sound. Put some Elixirs on this guitar and you won't regret it at all. The electronics are decent, not the best, but at the price point they're going to be very hard to beat. I highly recommend this guitar, if you're looking at other brands in this price range, definitely go with this Yamaha. I searched for a long time and this was definitely an excellent choice.

Great guitar with one small design fault.
I love the guitar and the price for this kind of construction is exceptional. I've been playing for over thirty years and would recomend the Yamaha A1R to any one looking for a solid great sounding instrument.
My only gripe with the guitar is the input jack is so small,I don't trust it to hold the guitar strap in place when it isn't plugged in.
I solved this problem by purchasing a DADDARIO auto lock strap which locks in place and the jack plug can go through it. Problem solved.

Excellent acoustic guitar
This was bought for me by my dad who is a musical genius and a twenty year vet. The sound of this guitar is up there with Martin and Taylor. It has warm and resonant mids along with good lows and ringing highs. It can get loud too. If you want something that can carry in a shady park or around a campfire this guitar will do the job. Despite what the picture shows it's not as yellow as it looks. I'm constantly getting comments from friends and colleagues about the great sound of this instrument. Not that the looks are bad, I love them, but it's the sound of this baby that is the real deal. I would definitely recommend this guitar for anyone who wants a mid priced guitar that sounds great and looks great.

Amazing
I'm really not a guitar expert so I can't speak with too much authority but it is beautiful. It has an amazing full sound and is just a great all around guitar. I am very happy with my purchase. The thing that separates my experience was the customer service however. It doesn't matter what guitar you get, you will get first class treatment every step of the way. The folks at sweetwater have a passion for both guitars and helping others find their passion in playing the guitar! When I buy my next guitar it will be from sweetwater!!!
