Great Guitar, love it!
. Great for all genres, where an acoustic would be needed, very stable in drop tunings, love d standard with it. Has martin bass response comparable with my martin 000-16 street.
If there is a fault it is minimal, it would be the piezo pickup, but having the onboard tuner more than makes up for the plugged in sound, I installed a pick up in the sound hole than has a mic blend and performs well, and the tuner is just a plus I use all the time.
Great for beginner.
This Yamaha dreadnought with the mahogany body has a nice, pleasant overall tone and not too heavy on the low end. The action out of the box is easy to play. The finsh is ver, very nice. After telling my sales rep what I was looking for, this was one of the three he had ready for me to try. It's been hard to put it down since I got it home.
Great guitar for the money
I picked this up as a backup guitar when my Taylor was in the shop for a month. I had gigs coming up and needed a guitar. I asked the repair guy for a recommendation. He pulled an A1R off the rack and said, "I would buy this instantly." It's a great guitar for the money. Sounds crisp, good all-around range, easy to play. I still use it for about half my gigs, and people always comment on how good it sounds. It's solid plugged in and unplugged.
Great sound and construction but high action
This guitar has great tone and a nice look. I looks and feels very well constructed. Be prepared to do some work to lower the action to make this guitar "easy" to play.
Solid guitar
I bought an A1R as a backup for live gigs while my Taylor was being repaired. It's a great guitar for the money. I play it around the house and still take it to gigs, sometimes as my main guitar. It's got a really nice natural tone and the electronics do not disappoint.
Yamaha A1R
I took a gamble on this guitar several years back and ordered it without ever hearing or playing it. It arrived in playable condition right out of the box. It only required an extremely small amount of tuning.
I still have it. I also have a Taylor 224 ce-k DLX. It's hard to choose which would be my favorite to play.
I find no fault in this guitar at all. It's loud and clear. The workmanship is right up there with much more expensive guitars. I've had pickers that were way better than me play it and be solidly impressed. I can't see you going wrong with this one.
Amazing Guitar At A Budget Friendly Price
This guitar sound amazing. Excellent bass response, sparkling treble with a very balanced overall sound. Put some Elixirs on this guitar and you won't regret it at all. The electronics are decent, not the best, but at the price point they're going to be very hard to beat. I highly recommend this guitar, if you're looking at other brands in this price range, definitely go with this Yamaha. I searched for a long time and this was definitely an excellent choice.
Great value..but...
Always liked Yamaha for bang-for-buck value. Bought this a few years back, and agree the tone is competitive ( to my ears) with more expensive instruments. Woods are beautiful, and the sitka and rosewood are what I wanted.
I was disappointed with the finish of the frets. When bending, especially on the upper frets, I felt a 'texture' to the frets. I don't play that many bends, but it irked me. I masked the fretboard, then went over the frets with 2000# grit emery paper, then polished frets with a dremel tool buffing wheel with a tiny bit of rubbing compound. This made a huge difference.
Great guitar with one small design fault.
I love the guitar and the price for this kind of construction is exceptional. I've been playing for over thirty years and would recomend the Yamaha A1R to any one looking for a solid great sounding instrument.
My only gripe with the guitar is the input jack is so small,I don't trust it to hold the guitar strap in place when it isn't plugged in.
I solved this problem by purchasing a DADDARIO auto lock strap which locks in place and the jack plug can go through it. Problem solved.
Excellent acoustic guitar
This was bought for me by my dad who is a musical genius and a twenty year vet. The sound of this guitar is up there with Martin and Taylor. It has warm and resonant mids along with good lows and ringing highs. It can get loud too. If you want something that can carry in a shady park or around a campfire this guitar will do the job. Despite what the picture shows it's not as yellow as it looks. I'm constantly getting comments from friends and colleagues about the great sound of this instrument. Not that the looks are bad, I love them, but it's the sound of this baby that is the real deal. I would definitely recommend this guitar for anyone who wants a mid priced guitar that sounds great and looks great.
Amazing
I'm really not a guitar expert so I can't speak with too much authority but it is beautiful. It has an amazing full sound and is just a great all around guitar. I am very happy with my purchase. The thing that separates my experience was the customer service however. It doesn't matter what guitar you get, you will get first class treatment every step of the way. The folks at sweetwater have a passion for both guitars and helping others find their passion in playing the guitar! When I buy my next guitar it will be from sweetwater!!!
