Rickenbacker Solidbody

The Rickenbacker 620 electric guitar offers you the unmistakable jangle of a great Ricky with the performance of a great solidbody. The 620 was first released in the 1950s to offer budding rock 'n' rollers a great instrument to play. It has since been seen in the hands of such guitar luminaries as Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The 620's all-maple construction and Hi-gain single-coil pickups deliver the legendary tone that goes hand in hand with the Rickenbacker name. And the 620 even boasts the famed Rick-O-Sound stereo output for expanded sonic possibilities.

An iconic solidbody

With the "Frying Pan" lap steel, Rickenbacker may have been the first electric guitar company with a solidbody model on the market. But with the advent of rock 'n' roll came this 620 solidbody electric guitar. The 620's "Cresting Wave" body style was a hit with many guitarists of the time, and demand for the guitar hasn't diminished since that time. Guitarists at Sweetwater are thrilled to be able to offer you the same guitars that were seen in the hands of some of the biggest names in music history.

All-maple construction

Everything but the fretboard of the Rickenbacker 620 solidbody electric guitar is built from high-grade maple. Maple is chosen for its dense nature that adds sustain and top-end clarity to the tone. It is also very stable, aiding in maintaining the structural integrity of the 620's neck. The rosewood fretboard adds a touch of warmth and harmonic richness to the otherwise bright instrument, and the triangular pearloid inlays look wonderful against its chocolaty hues.

Powerful electronics

The heart and soul of all Rickenbackers is the company's proprietary electronics. In the 620 electric guitar, you'll find a pair of Rickenbacker Hi-gain single-coil pickups that deliver the stringiness of many other single-coils but with an aggressive cut that brings out the full jangle and chime that has driven so many rhythm and lead guitar tracks through the decades. A 5-knob control layout lets you blend the two pickups to your ideal levels. Rickenbacker also spec'd the 620 with two output jacks. The first is a standard mono output. The second is a stereo Rick-O-Sound output, which outputs both pickups as a seperate signal. Just think about the possibilities! You can feed your 360's neck pickup into a clean American tweed for bass definition, then out your bridge pickup to an overdriven British stack for raucous tube grit. This option is also great for studio performers. By sending one signal to two sources, you can get an instant stereo track with only one performance.

Rickenbacker 620 Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Legendary solidbody electric guitar
  • All-maple construction adds high-end clarity to the tone
  • 2 single-coil Hi-gain pickups
  • Iconic triangular pearloid fretboard inlay
  • Stereo Rick-O-Sound output lets you route each pickup individually
  • Powerful passive electronics
  • High-quality Schaller tuners

Reviews

Tim Greene is the man!
First the guitar is the best I've ever played. It's completely different from all of the guitars I've picked up, and played over the years. The use of the word different here, as I will elaborate for anyone who reads this, is in fact the highest praise. Different, as this should be the guitar all others are measured against. It should be the very standard in electric guitars. Only in death will I part ways with my Rickenbacker.
Now, I've never met the man Tim Greene, in person. However, and if I remember correctly, his dedication to helping his customers exemplifies, and demonstrates to me his ability to, and I don't believe it's blind luck, connect with the people whom he conducts business. Now, I was looking at something, probably several things, can't recall what exactly, when on my way home from work, driving in my car, my phone rang. It was Tim, ready to help answer any questions I had about the many different things I was looking at, and then of a sudden, very casually, and what I considered very calculated, that's of course looking back at it now, Tim asks about a Rickenbacker I had shown some interest in. Well, and to be honest, I've always had Rickenbacker in the back of my mind. So Tim asks me about it. I respond "do you have it in stock?" Tim just says "yes." After just a few questions that I put forth to Tim, he confirms it's the one, exactly the one I'd been looking at. If I remember correctly, Tim was able to cancel my previous order, and get that sweet Rickenbacker on its way to its forever owner, myself, that is. That guitar has changed thirty years of all my notions, and opinions of what an electric guitar should be. Tim Greene is the only guy I want to deal with over at Sweetwater. Not saying I won't talk with, or even ask any Sweetwater employee what they think, and take their comments, and thoughts into consideration, but I'm here to tell you, I'll be asking Tim Greene lastly, and before I make a final decision on any purchase.

Thank you,
Micheal Blasko

Best Electric Ever?
I've been playing guitar for 30 years now. I won't lie, when it comes to electrics, I've always been a Fender guy. Enter the Rickenbacker 620. I got on a waiting list for one in April. I had a Fireglo on order for September, but about a month ago, I was a single Rickenbacker 620 in Jetglo on Sweetwater's website so I pounced on it! (It was already a tough choices between the two colors.) Long story short, this is the best electric guitar I've ever played, not just owned. I knew I had something special when I opened the case. By the way, I've never even seen a case this nice before. It is custom made for the 620 body shape; no movement at all when in the case. For just over a month now, I have only played this Rickenbacker. I typically play acoustic but i haven't picked one up since this arrived! I can't stress how well made this instrument is and how great it sounds. I was worried about the fretboard width a little having never played a Ric before, but those fears were quickly put to rest.

This thing is a work of art and is the pinnacle of American craftsmanship. Seriously, I feel like I had a much more expensive luthier-made guitar custom built for me. For those wondering, my fretboard has a finish on it. (I've seen some talk online saying that they stopped doing that.) The Hi-Gain pickups are amazing. I can get a classic Rickenbacker jangle but this is so not a one trick pony! You can get classic to heavy rock sounds on this thing. Playing it sitting down took a little getting used to because of the short lower horn, but I just use a strap and wouldn't have it designed any other way. The Schaller tuners are absolutely amazing at keep tune. The neck through body makes this so more different sounding and solid feeling than the rest of the guitars in my collection. I can honestly say that if I had bought a Rickenbacker 25 years ago, I wouldn't own half of the electric guitars I do. I'd have invested in a couple more Ric's. Through my own research, and I did a whole lot of research on this thing, Sweetwater hand's down has the best price on this particular instrument. I see why people are willing to fork out the extra cash and get on a waiting list for these guitars. If you're on the fence about this one, take the plunge! You will not regret it. I play folk, rock, classic rock, well, you name it. This is so well suited to so many genres of music. I don't know if it was the Rickenbacker factory or Sweetwater's 55 pt inspection, but this is the best set up on a new guitar I've ever bought. Many thanks to my rep, Timothy VanSlyke, who helped me out big time in deciding to get this guitar. The man knows his stuff!

Unique sound & bridge pickup is amazing
This is the best sounding bridge pickup ever and the feel of this guitar is so different from anything else. The body is super thin and the tuxedo look is amazing in person. Nice case, too! Sweetwater set it up well. Thanks to Ken Davis the best Sweetwater rep there is!
