Taylor’s Gorgeous 314ce with V-Class Bracing

The Taylor 314ce is a solid Grand Auditorium with excellent top-end response and a natural, direct tone. The 314ce’s sapele back and sides have a warm, full body with a bell-like sparkle and broad dynamic range thanks to a Sitka spruce top. You also get Taylor’s revolutionary V-Class bracing, which boosts volume evenly across the tonal spectrum, increases sustain, and improves the natural intonation of the instrument by creating a more synergistic response from the soundboard. The 314ce’s ES2 electronics provide convenient and natural-sounding amplification for the stage and studio with discrete tone and volume controls to help you shape your sound.

V-Class bracing: a sonic revelation

Bracing is the internal framework of an acoustic guitar that helps shape its sound. Although X-bracing has been standard in acoustic guitars for over a century, it creates an innate conflict between two key elements of a guitar’s sound: volume and sustain. The guitar’s top (its soundboard) contributes to both. The flexibility of the top generates volume (projection), while its stiffness generates sustain. And with X-braced guitar tops, here’s where the trade-off comes in: when something is made stiffer, its flexibility is reduced (and vice versa). V-Class bracing changes all that.

With Taylor’s V-Class bracing, an acoustic guitar top can be both stiff and flexible — for more volume and sustain. V-Class bracing provides stiffness parallel to the strings for more rigidity and hence sustain. Flexibility on either side generates the air movement necessary for robust projection. It’s the best of both worlds. This groundbreaking innovation also improves intonation, not only producing notes that are louder and with longer sustain, but are also more in tune with each other. V-Class bracing boosts volume evenly across the tonal spectrum, increases sustain, and improves the natural intonation of the instrument by creating a more synergistic response from the soundboard. This fosters a more harmonious relationship between the notes you play, helping chords to ring out in cohesive splendor. Pick up a Taylor with V-Class bracing and experience it for yourself.

Grand Auditorium body style delivers a full sound and sleek look

Acoustic players all over the world — including many here at Sweetwater — reach for Taylor Grand Auditorium guitars like the 314ce. This guitar’s comfortable narrow waist, rich full range of sounds, sharp definition, and sleek look make it an excellent intermediate option for fingerpickers and singer/songwriters who depend on a good-sounding, good-playing instrument night after night.

Sitka spruce and satin sapele balance warmth and sparkle

This 314ce’s time-proven Sitka spruce top gives you good projection with just the right amount of sparkle. This acoustic-electric guitar’s sapele back and sides also give it a warm and mellow quality, similar to that of mahogany, for a full and balanced tone. Guitarists far and wide agree that the sapele’s satin finish feels good in the hands and looks great under stage lights.

Taylor ES2 electronics for a natural and dynamic amplified sound

Artists who play plugged in will appreciate the Taylor 314ce’s natural-sounding Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics. This system features a 3-section proprietary pickup located behind the guitar’s saddle for clear and accurate sound reproduction. A master volume control and a pair of tone controls let you tweak your sound and output from the stage, and a discrete phase switch provides vital onboard feedback suppression.

Taylor 314ce Features:

  • Sitka spruce/satin sapele pairing balances warmth and sparkle
  • Grand Auditorium body style delivers exceptional high-end response
  • V-Class bracing boosts volume evenly across the tonal spectrum, increasing sustain and improving intonation
  • Venetian cutaway gives access to higher frets
  • Ebony fingerboard is fast and articulate
  • Dot inlays impart a sophisticated look
  • Satin finish with gloss top offers protection and good looks
  • Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics provide natural sound reproduction and a full dynamic response

Reviews

great guitar!!
I returned the 214ce-K for this model and I'm not disappointed. The 214ce-K played great & sounded great but I felt I needed something with a wider nut leghth for my hands. This guitar has good midrange punch and good sparkle on the highs with the most volume and sustain I've ever seen. ES2 works fine. Intonation is spot on across the whole fretboard. The action is slightey higher passed the 12th fret but I feel that does attribute to the volume and sustain with the breakway angle from the saddle. A truss rod adjustment may fix the issue but I feel it's not buzzing so it's good in my book and I want to see how it settles over time. The more I play it the more I love it!
Excellent in every way
I purchased this guitar because I was tired of chasing the Taylor tone. I was also told this guitar was a good crossover acoustic for the electric player. I'm a relatively new player. Not a boomer who is going to endlessly list their cred, just a late Gen-Xer who cares about performance, sound, fun, and fit and finish.

This guitar looks beautiful, but there are no frills. The black binding is understated and elegant. Not a lot of gloss, which is something I prefer.

The feel of the neck is slightly larger and flatter than the Fender Modern C and resembles the Gibson LP shape and radius, both of which I've grown to love. It does feel more like an electric neck. This guitar delivers in spades. Worth the relatively high price. You are CERTAINLY getting what you pay for. While it's not glossy and made of exotic woods, the tone is exactly what I was looking for.

Taylor 314ce V-Class Grand Auditorium
I bought this guitar after playing everything in the guitar store in about 2003 or so. I am a collector, and have other Taylor guitars, but this model is, by far, the best acoustic-electric that I ever played and/or owned.
It was my first hand made guitar.

I moved to the mountains and ran big humidifiers near my guitars and had used propane heat.

One night, I heard a loud pop and yes, something popped inside that guitar.

Had a friend try to fix it and something happened inside. He could not fix it and he told me, that in time, it would start cracking.

It still played very well and eventually, I sold it.

And now, I am thinking about another one. If you are thinking about something close to a 314 model, I recommend this model.

Not one guitar in 21 or so years, can touch the tone and ease of playing and sound that this model has. I always use Custom Light strings. Had this amazing guitar running into a 15 year old Peavey PA system. Can't imagine what it would sound like now with a great amp and pedals. The best!!!!!
