A Regal Refresh of Taylor’s Slope-shouldered Grand Pacific

Taylor’s 217e-SB Plus builds upon the success of its 50th Anniversary forebearer, pulling from that model’s stunning appointments to result in a stage-ready Grand Pacific that’s sure to steal the eyes and ears of any crowd. This guitar begins with a premium torrefied Sitka spruce top for a dynamic aged-in feel from first strum, while the layered Indian rosewood back and sides supply a wealth of rich low-end drawl and shimmering trebles. Taylor guitars are revered the world over for their effortless performance, and this 6-string’s Standard Carve ebony-topped mahogany neck more than lives up to that reputation with a fast, comfortable feel. Looking to hit the stage? Taylor’s time-tested ES-2 electronics ensure stunningly lifelike acoustic-electric tones when it comes time to plug in. It’s all finished off with a myriad of exquisite visual upgrades, including a slick gloss finish, Italian acrylic inlays, and a bold rosette pattern.

Grand Pacific dreadnought design

The Laurel Canyon acoustic scene of the '60s and '70s served as the inspiration behind the 217e-SB Plus’s slope-shoulder Grand Pacific design. It's a slight departure from the traditional dreadnought shape with big results that are hard not to love. The Grand Pacific's sloped shoulders offer a smooth top end with balanced bass — a tonal profile that Sweetwater’s recording pros and singer-songwriters favor for its ability to perfectly pair with the human voice. An enlarged lower bout completes the package, supplying exceptional resonance and a dynamic flair that’s sure to impart a touch of character to your next gig or studio session.

Proprietary C-Class bracing

Taylor’s original C-Class bracing gives this Grand Pacific a wonderfully balanced sound that feels right at home in Taylor’s lineup. Initially developed for the Grand Theater body shape, C-Class bracing is cantilevered and asymmetrical, with an optimized response inspired by Taylor’s acclaimed V-Class bracing. Borrowed V-Class elements let C-Class bracing heighten your soundboard’s response with greater dynamic sensitivity. What’s more, C-Class bracing adds warmth, maturity, and focus to your bass strings by reigning in low-end woody frequencies, making it a natural addition to any Grand Pacific shape.

Expression System 2 electronics

Need to plug in? Then you’re going to love the 217e-SB Plus’s built-in ES2 electronics! The ES2 system features a revolutionary segmented pickup located behind the bridge saddle; this pickup position delivers remarkably accurate and clear sound production that’s authentic to your playing. Each ES2 system features a handy master volume knob for fast level adjustments, in addition to a 2-band EQ for independent treble/bass adjustments to get the sound you need. Plus, the ES2 system also has a built-in phase switch, which offers essential feedback suppression whenever the system is active.

Taylor 217e-SB Plus Features:

  • Pulls a plethora of fan-favorite features from Taylor's 50th anniversary lineup of instruments
  • Classic slope-shouldered design results in a rich, full, and charmingly old-school spin on Taylor’s shimmering tone

Reviews

A thing of beauty
I spent a long time researching the perfect guitar for me. I'm fairly new to playing, lead singer of a band who plays some rhythm and does a little solo acoustic stuff. I wanted a guitar that looked the part, but moreso I needed a guitar that was forgiving and easy to play. This guitar is everything I wanted and more.

The sound quality is amazing. I fell in love with this guitar the second I held it. Playing it for hours is a breeze. It's got so much deep, rich sound. My band mates and friends alike are envious. My wife thinks I'm a good guitar player now. I told her it's just this guitar, not me - it makes up for my shortcomings.

I look forward to playing Taylor guitars for the rest of my life. There's just nothing that fits the bill for me quite like a Taylor.

C-Class bracing on a GP body delivers something special.
I purchased the 217e SB Plus 50th anniversary model, which is now discontinued. Taylor decided to keep that model around but without the 50th Anniversary appointments, so chrome tuners and dot inlays on this 217e-SB Plus, but otherwise the same guitar... In the six months I've owned this guitar, it's become my main instrument. It's not the loudest guitar and it doesn't have the richest sustain, but it has a very unique tone that pairs better with my voice unplugged than any guitar I own... and plugged-in the magic really happens. I own two other Taylor's with the ES2 pickup system and they all have a bit of occasional shrill on the high-end. You have to tame them a bit, but the system pairs perfect with this model. It's the most consistent plugged-in sound I've heard. I will never sell this guitar. The 117e delivers a lot as well, but for me the extra money is worth while for the thin UV Polyester gloss burst finish (the finish on this is very good, not cheap and the aero case.
