Five Strings of Amazing Upright Tones!

If you're searching for a new bass tone, the Ibanez Workshop SRF705 will deliver. The SRF705's maple/bubinga neck works in concert with its mahogany body wings, giving you long sustain and an enhanced tone. An exclusive piezo pickup system and an extended fingerboard give you tones and notes typically reserved for upright basses. A pair of Bartolini pickups with a 2-band EQ serves up great electric tones that can be mixed with the piezo pickup to create your own signature sound. Find your perfect tone with the Ibanez Workshop SRF705!

Tonewoods provide exceptional sound

Ibanez makes some very fine instruments, and the unique SRF705 is no exception. The SRF705's neck-through design offers increased sustain and enhanced tone thanks to a 5-piece maple/bubinga neck. Ibanez chose mahogany body wings for exceptional low-end impact and rich sustain. The extended Panga Panga fretless fingerboard sports a 30-fret length that lets you play in upper registers usually reserved for upright basses. The Ibanez SRF705 fretless bass is a bass player's dream come true. Any musician at Sweetwater will agree, the Ibanez SRF705 is a versatile and great-playing fretless bass guitar.

Piezo pickup system provides powerful upright tones

Fretless bass players are always looking for unique and smooth tones. Ibanez's SRF705 fretless bass gives you new tonal options not typically found on basses in this price range. It starts off with a pair of Bartolini MK1 and an active 2-band EQ, but the SRF705 doesn't stop there. The Ibanez-exclusive AeroSilk Piezo pickup system gives you the killer upright bass tones that you've been looking for. Not just another piezo system, the AeroSilk system was custom-built using plastic saddles at the bridge to enhance the "acoustic" bass tone. You can adjust each piezo pickup's volume for perfect string balance. Add this to the extended fingerboard and you have tones and notes usually reserved for upright bass players on your electric bass. The Ibanez SRF705 electric bass was designed for the fretless bass player who's looking for more.

USA Bartolini pickups deliver killer tone

Get ready for serious low end. The Ibanez SRF705 features two Bartolini MK1 humbucking pickups with ceramic magnets. To make the most out of the pickups - and to help you dial in the right bass tone - the SRF705 is also loaded with a powerful 2-band equalization system, giving you complete control over your bass and treble. When you combine this with the AeroSilk Piezo pickup system, you get a bass that can nail any tone in any genre of music.

Ibanez Workshop SRF705 Fretless 5-string Electric Bass Guitar Features:

  • Tonally versatile fretless bass guitar, with premium tonewoods and pickups

Reviews

beautiful, resonant, and perfect
This bass is gorgeous in pictures, but absolutely stunning in person! Plays smooth and sounds amazing. Piezo sounds so good with neck pickup! Been wanting this guitar for a WHILE, but finally made the move and could not be happier! Had my reservations about a fretless, but with a little fine tuning of my technique, no problems...for anyone looking to dive into the fretless world I highly recommend this beauty!
Terrific, flexible fretless instrument at a great price
I bought this as an upgrade to a budget/entry-level fretless bass and could not be happier. I was looking for a fretless that had an unlined fretboard, was lightweight and well balanced, looked good, could fit in with a variety of musical styles, and came in at under $. The SRF705 ticked all those boxes and more. I've been playing it with the variety band I'm in, on music ranging from country to classic rock to Linkin Park covers, and it is not only a great fretless, it's just a straight-up great bass that can seemingly do it all, and it's incredibly comfortable and fun to play on top of that.

I especially like that it has not only two humbucking pickups but also a piezo pickup to give the tone some serious upright-style resonance. Nothing can truly replicate the sound of an upright, but with the piezo dialed in just right you can definitely give it that flavor. You can also dial in a shockingly good round, authoritative P-bass tone, a solid Jaco tone, and more with the magnetic pickups. The six control knobs are intimidating at first but once you spend time with them, they begin to make sense and you realize just how many jobs can be done with this instrument. A lot of bass players aren't a fan of the Bartolini pickups, and I don't care for them myself on most basses, but on a fretless like this they make sense and sound awesome.

While shopping around, I played on some great fretless Jazz and Precision style basses but in the end I kept thinking "This is just a Jazz or Precision bass with the frets removed". The SRF705 on the other hand is designed to be its own thing, a fretless instrument with the best elements of upright basses and bass guitars but not imitating either of those. And at a great price too. This is my first Ibanez but probably not my last.

Extremely versatile bass guitar.
I'm very impressed with the SRF705, the tonal varieties seem endless with the three pickup configuration. It took a few days to adapt to the narrow neck and string spacing, coming from a P-Bass 4-string and a Reverend 5-string, but it really plays nicely and sounds wonderful into my Ampeg PF500 head and Fender Rumble 2x10 cab. The bridge piezo pickups set this bass apart from anything else in my collection. Superb, fast delivery from Sweetwater as always.
Spectacular Instrument
Having played a SR600 for the past 10 yrs I was looking for a 5 string to accommodate theater productions. Decided to go w this instrument. What a great choice it has turned out to be. I'm not going to repeat the accolades the other reviewers have presented - I agree with them whole heartedly. What I will add is the responsiveness and playability are superb. While some folks bash the Bartolinis I think this instrument sounds great as is. A bit of a learning curve w 5 strings (for me). I love the fretless (I also play an NS Design NXT4a so I'm used to the fretless aspect. Powerful output, great sound, easy to play. And of course set up was superb right out of the box. I did have different strings put on as part of the setup.
Music background: Been playing 60 yrs. Active musician - currently play at church, local theater groups, a few local groups and anywhere/when I can.
HOLY MOLY!!!!!
My amazing and incredible wife surprised me with this bass on Christmas. I had been looking for a five string but had no idea she had been memorizing serial numbers lol. This bass really is incredible. The vast array of tones possible with the various pick ups and controls is almost infinite. I can get close to a P bass, J bass, PJ bass, and my hollowbody Ibanez all with this bass. I won't say that I can get a true upright tone, but this bass is able to create pretty passable tones for jazz applications. It came set up nearly perfectly, with a straight neck and low action. The physical beauty of this bass is really something to behold. The carved neck joint and attention to details really sets this apart and makes it a delight to just look at and admire. The only thing that was a little bit of a bummer was the input jack. It is recessed, so I can't play my headphone amp without some sort of adapter cable. Not really that big of a deal though. I am so completely happy with this bass and I really have a hard time putting it down. Sweetwater was amazing as well, helping her with everything along the way. I'm very happy!!

I've owned an Ibanez SR705 fretted bass for years and always wished they would make a fretless version. As soon as I heard they had, I bought it - and it's everything I wanted it to be! The Bartolini pickups provide the huge tone that Ibanez players know and love while the AeroSilk Piezo pickup allows you to really dial in the warmth and tone of an upright bass. You can play anything from jazz to metal on this beast. Add in a 30-fret neck with the weight, feel, and look that only Ibanez can produce and you have a winner. I will have this bass for the rest of my life!
