Adds More I/O to Your ADAT-compatible Interface

Running out of channels? The Black Lion Audio Revolution EXP enables you to add more I/O to your ADAT-compatible audio interface, with 16 channels of premium-quality AD/DA conversion at up to 24-bit/192kHz. The Revolution EXP boasts ultra-low-jitter Macro MMC word clocking for lockstep synchronization and maximum clarity. And, of course, you can always sync the Revolution EXP to an external clock. This top-shelf converter/expander sports boutique components from Nichicon, Vishay, and Wima for super-low noise and optimal sound quality. Moreover, you'll appreciate the Revolution EXP's ample connectivity, which includes eight channels of bidirectional analog I/O over TRS connectors with built-in -10dB pads and eight channels of bidirectional digital I/O with S/MUX over ADAT optical connectors. You also get a bright, 8-stage meter for every input and output, giving you accurate, at-a-glance level checks. The BLA Revolution EXP offers studio owners of all levels a first-class way to grow their setup.

An easy way to grow your studio — with premium quality

If you're running out of I/O on your ADAT-compatible audio interface, the Revolution EXP offers a streamlined solution. You get eight channels of bidirectional analog I/O over TRS connectors and eight channels of bidirectional digital I/O over ADAT optical connectors with S/MUX. Best of all, thanks to proprietary Macro MMC clocking and boutique components from Nichicon, Vishay, and Wima, you can rest assured that the BLA Revolution EXP offers premium, professional-level sound.

More I/O equals better recordings

Sweetwater engineers have long been hip to the idea that expanding your studio's I/O will absolutely elevate your production workflow. More connections mean you can add hardware compressors, stereo reverbs, and more — there's an endless array of analog "better-makers" out there just waiting for you to patch them in. With a converter/expander like the Black Lion Audio Revolution EXP in your rack, you'll be able to create multichannel recordings of your hardware synths and drum machines or integrate external preamps into your setup for capturing full drum kits. You could also use the Revolution EXP's eight analog outputs to route your mixes through an analog summing box or to connect to a multi-speaker array to work in Dolby Atmos.

Reviews

One of the most important pieces
I use a manley force paired with a babyface pro fs. Originally I had the audient 880 for channel expansion and conversion. At first I was suprised that the force sounded largely similar to the audient. At the recommendation of my awesome sales rep I tried this as a new ad/da converter and was blown away by the quality difference. I'm sure Burhl converters sound better, but this is pretty damned good. Now the force sounds much, much better than the audient. And hillariously, the audient itself sounds better when run through the superior converters. I've also done a/b tests between clocking from the babyface and the revolution exp. I prefer the revolution. This is a badass converter, very high quality sound, looks awesome, fantastic support from BLA, and Sweetwater backs you up if you get into any setup issues.
Rock Solid
I felt compelled to write a quick review of this device after using it for the past year and being so impressed with how great it works. I hooked it up and it worked immediately and super easily. No fiddling or fussing. I started with ADAT link word clock and then later hooked up a BNC word clock cable because I had one, but frankly the ADAT worked flawlessly, so it was probably unnecessary. I haven't had one problem with this device, not even a blip. Works perfectly every time and I don't even have to think about it. I use this both for extra tracking I/O, but also for hybrid mixing, running multiple outboard pieces through it. Automatically flips the sample rate if I'm working in different sample rate files. Highly recommended.
You Need It
Solidly built with peerless sound quality. You just need some ADAT, word clock and patch cables and you have expanded your studio tremendously. Can't recommend it enough if you have the interface to support it and want to grow.
Can’t go wrong
Ive only used a few times, Ive been tied with other things lately but notice a big difference in clarity and gloss. Its a great converter thank you !
Crazy Underappreciated Expansion Tool
Well-built, pristine sound, and the perfect set of features for expanding your studio. And if your audio interface has 2 ADAT channels, you can run all 8 ins and outs of the Black Lion at 96k/24 bit. Just a crazy useful and high quality piece that no one really talks about. If you need expansion and have a good interface this is seriously worth a look.
