An analog-style synth for guitar

The BOSS SY-300's powerful polyphonic synth engine brings a limitless range of new sounds to your arsenal. Just like with the classic analog synths of the world, you have complete creative freedom to invent sounds with a full palette of synthesis parameters. Select different wave shapes, tweak them with filter, amp, and pitch controls. Or modulate them with LFOs, and layer oscillators for rich, complex tones. Dig into the Blender function to mix and match settings from different synth patches to open whole new possibilities of sounds.

Amazing sounds accessed by your guitar's standard 1/4" jack

Tapping into BOSS's legendary guitar synth technology has never been easier. Most guitar based synth products require a special pickup, cable, or even guitar design to access different sounds. But the SY-300 can be used with any guitar's standard 1/4" cable. And ultra-fast DSP, along with newly developed innovations from the BOSS engineering team lets the SY-300 perform absolutely latency free! Now you can get new palette of sounds, that are a natural extension of your guitar playing. You are free to connect with your guitar just as you always have.

Shape your guitar tone with synth filters, amplifiers, and LFOs

Beyond its amazing synth voices, the SY-300's synth engine can be used to process your normal guitar sound as well. Apply filtering to alter the basic tonality, use amp parameters to alter your attack and decay. Even add some movement with the LFO and step sequencer to create complex rhythmic tonalities. With these powerful controls you're able to extend your regular axe with an endless supply of unique creative textures. Dig in and give any of your guitars a whole new sonic personality.

It's seanoning; not steak.
I use the SY-300 less like a steak and more like a sauce or seasoning. There are lots of ways to program it as a subtle pad/wash that is very low in the mix over an strummed acoustic guitar. I'll stick an SM58 in a grand piano, put it through a Fishman Loudbox under the piano, and use it low in the mix on solo piano gigs – if you are looking for texture, spice, color, ambiance, or just a little more density in your sound, you can't go wrong with the SY-300.

Takes time to realize it's potential...
It takes time to realize all that this synth can do... A Eurorack Pro line mixer is a must to take full advantage of layering all of its parellel routing abilities... I mainly use the SY300 to create all kinds of synth backgrounds composed of layering different built-in distortions on each oscillator and run it parellel to a send/return series with Enzo, Ifinite Jets, and Microcosm...then summed all into my delay and reverb pedals... Inputting different sounds between the main input and the return jack also opens up infinite creativity with an expression pedal... The software is awesome for controlling every aspect of it... I've had my SY300 for about 4 years and still finding new creative ways to use it... Worth every penny even though Boss is now treating it like their red-headed step child and not updating it... If you get it, take the time to learn every aspect of it... It's really a swiss army knife of pedals with three fully customizable oscillators, huge array of built-in multi FX, great routing options, and excellent control software...

it truely blowed my mind
the boss sy 300 truly blued me away!!!I played with it for 5 hours straight and I realy couldn't believe it's complexity of the sounds and performance of the arppegeator with it's stereo effects.well I was so freaked out I put it back in the box for a week or so with the the knowledge that I have the guitar synthesizer I've been hoping all my guitar playing years. the sy 300 has no tracking issue and it has tones of output capabilities,3 analog style oscillators with 6 wave forms and so many outer guitar processing effects it 's not even funny. I could not be move pleased by the boss sy 300 and sweetwaters james shiilliday help in finding the guitas synthesizer of my dreams...

"Sing The Body Electric"
You have to try this device if no other reason than to answer the Everest question; Why do we climb Everest? Because its there. Bringing it back to perspective, the Boss SY300 is there, waiting for you perusal. It has every reason for you to stand out in a crowd. Only you can decide if its a crutch or an advancement to your style and sound. Do you want to create M.O.R. standard-type stuff, or progress? This is a device that can be subtle in the background or advance to the front. Its diverse, its eclectic. Its atmospheric or its an arsenal of sound at your disposal, at your discretion. You don't need any special expensive cheaply made cable to operate it. Connection-wise, its just another pedal going out to your amp or PA, or both. Its small and compact, built very solidly. If this isn't enough to climb Everest, then when you're ready, it will be too.

Awesome
1. It is deep and after having the box for only 1 month, I'm amazed how clean and broad it is.

2. There are a couple negative reviews about how it is just an expensive noise machine. I understand that it may be too much for some people, but THIS IS IMPORTANT: If there is too much going on for you, turn some of the effects off, or use just your instrument as one of the oscillator inputs, turn the synth part off, and then turn on 1 effect at a time; distortion, delay, reverb, whatever.

This box can be overkill or it can be just perfect. Learn how to turn things on and off before bashing it.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?
It's no secret that I love guitar tone -- after all, I wrote a book on it! But I also love synthesizers and all the textures and sounds that they can create. So it will come as no surprise that I've always wanted a hassle-free, natural way to access synth sounds using my guitar. Don't get me wrong -- I use and enjoy several different guitar synth systems. But they all require special pickups and controls. Wouldn't it be awesome if you could just plug in your guitar and hear synth sounds come out when you play? Now you can with the amazing, new SY-300 from BOSS. The SY-300 requires no special pickup or electronics; you just plug in your regular guitar cable, like with an effects pedal, and start picking. The amazing thing is that it tracks perfectly and lets you play chords! I admit that when I first heard about this new BOSS technology, I was skeptical. But now, having played through it, I'm convinced -- it works perfectly. The SY-300 follows your articulations exactly: palm muting, bends, vibrato; every technique translates to the synth sound. The sound is created using three oscillator paths with all the standard synth engine technology -- filters, envelopes, etc. Then, you have four effects processors, and you can add in the dry guitar tone or route the guitar tone out to an external effects processor and bring it back into the mix. All of this can be routed in series or parallel, and mixed and mashed, resulting in a complex raw sonic resource that's very easy to control, edit, and use. You get three onboard footswitches for control, and you can add two more footswitches or an expression pedal. The result is that you play guitar, but synth sounds come out. Monster basses, fat resonant leads, lush pads, rhythmic textures, sonic washes... there are 70 factory presets and 99 user presets for storing your sounds, and there's even a cool Blender function for quickly creating new sounds. And, for even more power, you can connect a computer via USB and either graphically edit patches, download new patches, or even record directly from the SY-300 to your DAW. I'm blown away by the SY-300. The term "game changer" gets thrown around a lot, but in this case, I think it's apropos. If you're a guitar player who lusts after synth sounds, this is the box for you!
