The Martin of Choice for Jangle-pop Monarchs

Known for his indie-adjacent fingerpicking patterns, complex melodies, and ingenious articulation, Johnny Marr's acoustic expertise has spanned countless releases from mid-2000s Modest Mouse recordings all the way back to the deepest depths of the Smiths' heralded B-sides. Uniting Johnny's outstanding instrumental acumen and Martin's timeless acoustic artistry, the M-7 Johnny Marr acoustic-electric guitar merges a classic tonewood duo and exceptional onboard appointments to channel the artist's signature jangle-pop character with utmost authenticity. The M-7 is not your typical acoustic, however — an additional octave G string pulls out the harmonic top-end spark that's expected of Marr's potent alternative playing style. A smooth mahogany neck and a high-performance bone nut and saddle combo further keep playing manageable and a best-in-class solution to administering Johnny's lighting-fast notational movements with ease — not to mention dutiful visuals via a vintage-inspired top finish and classic Martin accouterments. Complete with an onboard LR Baggs anthem preamp system, there's no better route for tackling onstage performances and in-studio recording sessions. Rest assured, with the Martin M-7 Johnny Marr in hand, your musical light will never go out.

Channel Johnny Marr’s signature jangle

Fans of Johnny Marr’s signature indie spunk will immediately recognize the power and dynamics tucked inside the M-7’s meticulously chosen tonewood combo. With solid spruce up top and East Indian rosewood surrounding the back and sides, the M-7 sources balanced bass tones with exceptional midrange projection. It’s further motivated by Martin’s Grand Auditorium body shape and proprietary X-bracing pattern, allowing the M-7 to come full circle and provide the signature top-end sparkle for which Johnny is most known. Whether you’re a fan of the Smiths’ early acoustic jaunts or a contemporary composer in search of a formidable acoustic with an alternative kick, heaven knows the M-7 is a first choice for many guitarists here at Sweetwater.

This Charming Martin

Designed in collaboration with the jangle-pop king himself, it's only natural that the M-7 befits Johnny's standards in terms of appearance and practicality. A genuine dark mahogany neck bearing Martin's full thickness profile is topped with a smooth East Indian rosewood fingerboard, keeping Johnny's Smiths-akin transitions swift and manageable across every fret. Up top, chrome-enclosed tuning machines and a compensated bone nut and saddle combo employ a comfortable playing field while maintaining excellent intonation stability. A classic faux tortoise pickguard and additional chrome hardware top off the M-7's visual aesthetics, along with an antique toner finish to emulate decades of natural exposure and age.

LR Baggs Anthem electronics

Rich, authentic, and loaded with LR Baggs' proprietary noise-canceling technology, the Martin M-7's onboard active Anthem preamp system captures every nuance of sound to ensure utmost performance onstage and during DI recording sessions. Likewise, the Tru-Mic system nestled inside is purposefully designed to negate placement issues while maintaining manageable volume and dynamics. While offering up the full gamut of independent Volume, Mix, and Phase controls, the LR Baggs Anthem system remains exceptionally lightweight and is entirely unobtrusive to keep your play comfortable and genuine.

Reviews

Must have for Rhythm Players
Ok first off, a big thanks to my partner in crime, Sweetwater Sales Engineer David Mikautadze, for helping me with this selection and purchase.

Now that I have about 40 hours into the M7 it has become one of my favorite guitars very quickly. Disclaimer, I have many Taylor guitars and only one Martin (now two) and consider myself a "Taylor Guy". There is no denying that Taylors in general are easy players and high quality build that said, this M7 blew me away with a broad tonal range. You really get the Taylor high resonance with the extra G string, but the depth and bass is just incredible. I matched the M7 up against my 1999 Jumbo Taylor and in a blind test the M7 out produced the Taylor in both jangle and bass. I thought I might no like the next on the M7 since is is not a Taylor, but I have adapted to it and it is really just a different player.

Final assessment is if you can swing the price tag, call David. It is worth every penny and a very unique 12 string sounding guitar without the hassle of the other 5 strings....

Loved it right out of the case. Beautiful premium quality instrument. I would say it is more for rhythm players, as leads and complicated licks are better done on a six string in my humble opinion. I have not amplified it yet.
