Vintage-style Martin 000 A/E

The Martin 000-17E Auditorium 6-string acoustic-electric guitar is for players looking for a vintage-style guitar with a unique look. The 000 body style delivers a balanced, detailed tone, which the onboard custom electronics amplifies to perfection. It's a favorite among fingerstylists. The combination of spruce, mahogany, and rosewood is used for the rich harmonics. And the 000-17E boasts a no-nonsense look that works onstage or in your living room. The Martin 000-17E Auditorium combines some of the most popular elements in vintage acoustic-electric guitar construction with modern updates to the guitar's playability.

Vintage construction, modern playability

The Martin 000-17E acoustic-electric guitar has the popular Auditorium body that has been a favorite among performing guitarists for many decades. Its body delivers rich low end, while giving each note a balance and clarity that works as a solo instrument or for accompanying your voice. The neck joins the body at the 14th fret for a total scale length just over 24.5". And the neck is built with Martin's Modified Low Oval profile with High Performance Taper to appeal to modern players' demands.

Sonically rich wood combination

The mahogany, spruce, and rosewood wood combination used on the 000-17E is exceptionally popular for the way it balances warmth, detail, and a wide frequency response. The solid spruce top offers great stiffness-to-weight ratio to get maximum volume and power from your strings. The solid mahogany back and sides ensure your tone stays even across the frequency range, while delivering plenty of warmth. And the rosewood fretboard also contributes to the rich harmonic warmth of the guitar.

Proprietary electronics

Martin and Fishman have been working together for over 30 years in an effort to build the best acoustic-electric guitars on the market. And they recently teamed up again to create the Matrix VT Enhance pickup system that you'll find in the 000-17E. This system consists of Fishman's popular Matrix under-saddle pickup and a new Enhance element that can be blended into the signal separately via the soundhole-mounted controls. The Enhance function lets the natural sounds of the guitar come through, which is ideal for players using techniques such as body tapping.

Streamlined appearance

Both modern players who want a striking-looking instrument and lovers of vintage Martins will love the straightforward appearance of the 000-17E. The guitar's minimal fretboard inlays and simple ivoroid binding and pickguard give it the look of a well-loved prize from the pre-war era. And Martin's satin finish helps enhance the tone of the guitar by letting the woods move and breathe naturally. Now you can buy a brand-new Martin from Sweetwater and get a pre-war Martin experience.

Martin 000-17E Features:

  • Solid mahogany back and sides
  • Solid spruce top
  • Bone string nut and compensated saddle

Reviews

Just What I Was Looking For
Love this guitar. It's nothing fancy - a minimalist approach - non assuming - not flashy, but definitely has that Martin quality in the build. Reminds me of the guitars of yesteryear. But don't be fooled, it has great tone. And with Fishman electronics. this guitar records well. My only disappointment is, I wish the action was better. I will have mine adjusted so that it plays easier. But other than that, this Martin 000-017E is a keeper!
Music background: Song Writer, Musician, Recording Engineer
Excellent buy.
I absolutely love this guitar. It is such an incredible improvement in quality and craftsmanship over every other guitar I have and have had. Photos don't really capture the "black smoke" well enough, it's an absolute beauty in person. The spruce top is a rich charcoal, and the mahogany back and sides have an undertone of deep brown beneath the finish. I play primarily in dropped open tunings and haven't had any issues whatsoever.
I was skeptical about the gig bag provided (and a little disappointed it didn't come with a hard case) but honestly the quality of the bag and the firm padding is great as well.
Overall I'm extremely pleased. The pickup system works well, the "enhance" feature really helps to give it a real acoustic sound while amplified.
100% I doubt I'll ever go back to any budget brand in the future. I was worried that maybe the Martin Fanboys were just sort of roped in, but I was wrong. The quality is excellent. I've never bought a guitar that felt so immediately natural, and haven't had any issues adjusting to the change in string spacing from my (ex) primary guitar.
Maybe I got lucky, but this guitar genuinely feels like it was made just for me.
Greatest Guitar I'll Ever Own
I've had guitars that were more expensive. I've had guitars that had more bells and whistles. But I have never had a guitar like this. This Martin sings. The thin finish allows it to truly breathe. This guitar rings like a bell and I couldn't imagine any other 6 string as my main player. I write with it, I jam on it and I trust it fully. I have beat the absolute sin out of this thing. It is covered in bumps and bruises. I nearly need a refret. I have had the binding re-attached a few times. The Georgia heat and playing outdoors has nearly split this thing in half, but I have had her patched up every time. And I would do it 1000 more times because it is just that worth it. This guitar will never leave my side.
Fantastic guitar with beautiful clear tones
I spent hours and hours trying different guitars (various brands and various sizes). I wasn't quite sure what I was after, I just knew I wanted a guitar that had the right tone (for my ears). I finally shortlisted a Martin 000-15m and one the 000-17e. I kept going back and forth between the 2, finding different nuances in them both. I absolutely loved the sound of the 15m, but there was just something about the 17 that sounded slightly better (again, for my ears…it's all subjective in the end). There was more than one in the store, so I sat for a while trying them all and there was one that just stood out head and shoulders above the others. It wasn't a hard decision pulling the plug on it.

It really goes to prove that you can have exactly the same make and model, but there can be tonal differences between them.

This is a 1st class guitar and that smoke colour is gorgeous.

The action was low and perfect for me. No changes needed to be made at all (which I should hope for an American made Martin).

I can't put it down….
I <3 my 000-17E
My favorite guitar I've ever played, and it's not even close. The neck feels perfect, the volume is incredible considering how small and light the guitar is, and it looks awesome. The electronics give a lot of options for amplified sounds with the two different pickups.
