A Short-scale Time Machine Back to the Early '60s

Inspired by the classic 1950s Danelectro Pro, this reinvented model pays direct homage to the look, sound, and overall vibe of the original axe. With its matchbox-like design, short 25-inch scale length, and vintage Lipstick pickup, the Danelectro Pro is sure to make a statement wherever it goes. The Pro’s lightweight spruce body and hardboard top deliver what Sweetwater guitarists call the signature Dano sound — a lively, assertive warmth somewhere between a solidbody and a more traditional semi-hollowbody, complete with a center block for feedback suppression, so you can always pair it with your favorite pedals and effects. Likewise, the Pro’s maple neck and rosewood fingerboard keep playability agile and fluid while delivering that sweet vintage tone.

A sealed semi-hollow deal

It’s an ingenious semi-hollow build that’s stood the test of time: a spruce body frame capped with hardboard paired with a center block that eliminates feedback. Distinctive, rugged, and beyond versatile, no guitar body sounds quite like a Danelectro’s body! The Pro's nuanced resonance and tonal range give this guitar a unique edge for everything from vintage rockabilly blues to modern indie faves.

Faithful ’50s design

Today, Danelectro ’50s pickup specs read like diligent recitations of the originals. Inside, Alnico VI magnets uniquely wrapped with coil and tape make these pickups sound as authentic as they look. Outside, the chrome covers are made from 80/20 brass zinc, just like the tubes Danelectro bought from a cosmetics factory back in the day, a detail that proves the Pro is a fully worthy heir of a legendary sound. Featuring a single neck Lipstick pickup, the Pro provides an enhanced low-frequency gristle that fills sonic space and comes to life when played clean or driven.

Premium playability

Sweetwater guitarists found the Pro's comfortable C-profile maple neck and fingerboard scale pack a stellar blend of playability and range, further enhanced by the unique, matchbox-like body design. Additionally, the adjustable dual-action truss rod provides a modern touch and makes sure your Pro's neck stays straight and plays true.

Danelectro Pro Features:

  • Semi-hollowbody electric guitar with vintage character and modern enhancements
  • Short 25-in. scale length provides a slinky feel with a punchy, percussive response
  • Lightweight spruce body and hardwood top and back deliver signature midrange tone
  • Maple neck with rosewood fingerboard offers wonderful playability and response
  • Lipstick single-coil pickup in the neck position brings vintage midrange punch
  • Master volume and tone controls
  • Dual-action truss rod modernizes setup adjustments
  • Aluminum nut lets strings vibrate with strong resonance and lasting sustain
  • Incredibly true to the classic '50s Danelectro look, feel, and sound

THE Danelectro, in my humble opinion
I have had this for a few weeks now. Feels incredible, short scale is easy to get used to, and the vintage appointments, in my opinion, only add to the overall sound and vibe without sacrificing playability.

The one lipstick pickup sounds perfect. Compresses so well, and it's sort of half way in between a neck and middle position. Naturally breaks up when you play it harder and the notes of the strings blend together in this way that is so different than other single coils. And the feel of the strings, for whatever reason, has such a unique "digging in" feel. It truly feels like a microphone for every little noise you would want to make with your hands on such a blank canvas. Spruce/hardtop combo with the semi-hollow thing is awesome, and I've always loved the Dano style of vinyl(?) binding that looks like stucco. Rosewood bridge is very sturdy as well.

It's listed as Maroon with silver sparkle and it looks great in person, I would argue that it looks black under most any light, but I'm mostly there for the sparkles. Highly recommend!

Book 'em Danno!
This guitar is great to play. It's got a short scale like an Epiphone Casino or a Gibson ES-330, which I like because that puts you right in the sweet spot when you sit down and play. Also, it sounds great. Last night as my wife was in the kitchen making dinner, I went from playing a Fender Vintera II Nocaster to a Gibson ES-339 to this little beast. I yelled from the other room, "Doesn't that sound great?" She said, "Yeah, what guitar is that?" I told it was my cheap particle board guitar. We both laughed. The point is that you can get some great tones with the single pickup and I love the separate controls (I have struggled with other Dans when the volume and tone controls are stacked). Plus, it's got that 'George Jetson - AI's your future' look. Spacey. I dig it. And, of course, the price is right.

Fast, crisp, sleek, . The lipstick pickup is epic. Played this with Danelectro Nichols 1966 pedal and Fender Champ tube amp, couldn't go past level 3. So good. Way cool.
