Beautiful black limba and captivating koa
Each PRS Private Stock instrument is crafted using the world’s finest tonewoods, with instruments often boasting exotic combinations that you can’t find anywhere else. PRS Private Stock #10817 Custom 24 exceeds that lofty expectation with an incredibly distinctive combo of a black limba body matched with a superb koa top. Often referred to as “korina” in the guitar-building world, black limba provides a rich mahogany-like tone with both lighter weight and brighter response. Matched with a breathtaking koa top, the PRS Private Stock #10817 Custom 24 produces a tone that retains many of the most sought-after qualities of a classic maple-topped mahogany guitar, only with a far more refined appearance and superlative articulation.
Dual humbucker configuration
The Private Stock #10817 Custom 24 boasts a pair of vintage-inspired humbuckers — a 59/09 in the bridge position and a 57/08 in the neck. The 59/09 is a highly articulate pickup that contains a harmonically rich response that makes it perfect for powerful high-gain leads and punchy rhythm tones. PRS's 57/08 captures the iconic sound of a late-'50s neck humbucker. It has a deep and smoky tone that offers ample bass but never threatens to become muddy.
Pattern Thin neck profile for fluid playability
This Private Stock instrument sports PRS’s time-tested Pattern Thin neck profile. Evolved from designs Paul Reed Smith has been working on for decades and perfected after years of prototyping, the Pattern Thin neck carve is an updated version of the traditional Wide Thin neck style. The Pattern Thin neck shape is fast and comfortable — ideal for players with smaller hands or guitarists who use classical left-hand positioning, pivoting with their thumb on the back of the neck.
Private Stock: the best of the best
Deep in the bowels of PRS's Maryland-based facility, the Private Stock vault contains the finest tonewoods imaginable. In the words of PRS, the vault is akin to "a wooden candy store." From intensely figured maple to ultra-rare species like koa or cocobolo, more than 20 types of wood lie in wait to form the foundation of a special instrument. Once the buyer selects the wood, an elite team of PRS luthiers painstakingly lavish their skills on each and every aspect of the guitar's production. Finally, each Private Stock instrument is inspected and signed by Paul Reed Smith himself before being sent out to its new owner. Built by the finest craftsmen using only the finest materials, Private Stock guitars are genuinely the best of the best that PRS has to offer.
