The Axe That Inspired the Pointy Guitar Revolution

The Gibson ’70s Flying V electric guitar re-creates the radical axe that inspired legions of hard-hitting pointy guitars. This Flying V delivers scorching rock tones and near-endless sustain, and the comfortable contour of its resonant mahogany body makes you want to play all night long. Wrapping your hand around the Flying V’s rosewood-capped SlimTaper neck invites breakneck fretboard pyrotechnics. Your riffs and leads will be infused with classic tight low end, complex midrange, and sweet highs, courtesy of a pair of handwired ’70s Tribute Burstbucker pickups. To top it off, small touches like a matching headstock, silver reflector knobs, and chrome hardware give this solidbody electric guitar an arena-ready look. Whether you’re looking to add a little attitude to your collection or simply want a high-class heavy metal axe, you’ll love this Gibson ’70s Flying V in Classic White.

You just can’t beat the slim neck of the Gibson Flying V

The Gibson ’70s Flying V gives you the smooth feel and fast action of Gibson's SlimTaper profile neck. Early Les Pauls had huge necks, but by 1960 the neck underwent several modifications, eventually becoming the standard SlimTaper carve. And when you add to that the ultra-smooth feel of its rosewood fingerboard, you get the best of both comfort and performance. In fact, the comfortable playability of its SlimTaper neck is, at least in part, the reason for its long-standing popularity on the metal scene. Many guitarists at Sweetwater appreciate Flying Vs for their fast-playing necks.

’70s Tribute Burstbucker pickups deliver timeless PAF humbucker tone

When it comes to capturing that classic Gibson tone, nothing beats the sound of Burstbucker pickups. You’ll love the tight low end, complex midrange, and sweet highs you’ll get out of these pickups — it’s everything you expect when you pick up a Gibson! That’s because Burstbucker pickups were designed to re-create the sound of original PAF humbuckers to perfection. So if you want the time-tested tone of a classic Gibson, the ’70s Flying V is the guitar for you.

Plek’d for precision playability

The Gibson '70s Flying V feels fast and precise thanks in large part to Plek processing. Typically reserved for top-dollar custom guitars, this process levels the frets with pinpoint precision, providing you with the most playable fretboard you’re likely to own. Each note rings loud and clear, and the fret edges feel smooth as silk.

Gibson ’70s Flying V Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Comfortable, lightweight mahogany body lets you rock all night
  • Slim, lightweight, and smoothly contoured mahogany body won’t tax your back
  • Rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays looks cool and is easy on your fingers
  • SlimTaper mahogany neck feels great and provides ultra-fast action
  • ’70s Tribute Burstbucker pickups give you that timeless PAF humbucker tone
  • Hand-wired with Orange Drop capacitors to ensure spot-on classic tone
  • Matching headstock, silver reflector knobs, and chrome hardware offer an arena-ready look
  • Plek’d for precision playability

This Flying V flies high!

I just got it, and it's awesome! I have over 10 different guitars, including the Gibson Explorer, but this thing stands out from the rest. I have wanted this guitar since day one, from several different musical artists such as Metallica, and Jimi Hendrix. At first I thought it would be like any other guitar and just be about flash, but now that I have seen it in person, this guitar is the one!

best ever

Best guitar I have ever played. I have over 20 electric guitars and nothing touches this. Plays fast and smooth and sounds incredible playing hard rock to Metal.
Music background: 30+years electric and acoustic guitar.

From rockers to jazz cats, there are generations of guitarists right here at Sweetwater who swear by Gibson guitars. Not only do they make many of the most iconic solidbody electric guitars of all time - the Les Paul, the SG, the Flying V - but they also produce classic hollowbody and semi-hollowbody models and some of the most iconic acoustic guitars on the planet. We play them all! Our close relationship with Gibson often allows us to stock exclusive models and rare finds, and we're always happy to turn players and collectors on to the gems in the Sweetwater Guitar Gallery. We also have access to all the latest Gibson hardware, and the Sweetwater Guitar Repair Shop has upgraded countless guitars with their top-of-the-line humbuckers, classic P-90s, and more.
