A Value-packed, No-frills A/E Uke Bass

The Kala U-Bass Nomad is a value-packed, no-frills acoustic-electric ukulele bass that’s begging for you to pick it up and play it. The Nomad features all-mahogany construction, serving up a tonal cocktail of resonance, warmth, and sustain, and providing eye-popping good looks. And no matter where you’re playing — around the campfire, busking in the streets, or just plunking away in a hotel room — this uke bass’s compact size and 20.8-inch scale ensure that you can take it anywhere with zero fuss. Want to take this diminutive acoustic instrument onstage? No problem. Its top-notch electronics deliver a room-filling sound that’s sure to please. The Kala U-Bass Nomad includes a Graph Tech NuBone nut, custom die-cast tuners, and an attractive satin finish.

The right tonewoods bring out this U-Bass's warm and woody sound

As an acoustic instrument, a major factor in the U-Bass Nomad's tone is the selection of tonewoods Kala chose. This U-Bass gives you the characteristically full-bodied sound of mahogany construction. Plus, it looks simply amazing! Add to that a laurel fingerboard and a laurel bridge, and you get a kind of dark warmth that blossoms with every note. At Sweetwater, we really dig the sound of this acoustic-electric ukulele bass.

Special strings, special sound

The secret behind the big sound of the Kala U-Bass is almost as cool as its small, ultra-portable format. It comes from the combination of the right tonewoods and Aquila's Thunderblack polyurethane strings. These lightweight, large-diameter strings provide plenty of low-frequency oomph, which resonates with a deep, rich, and wooden quality that's reminiscent of the coveted upright sound yet colored with a uniquely musical U-Bass quality all its own.

Custom Kala electronics with active EQ make this U-Bass a real live performer

Kala's custom electronics give this U-Bass a vibrant and realistic sound when you play plugged in. An active equalizer makes tweaking your tone a piece of cake, effortlessly meeting the needs of even the most demanding venues. What's more, Kala even equipped this U-Bass with an onboard tuner — an essential part of any musician's live kit.

Kala U-Bass Nomad Features:

  • Compact 20.8-inch-scale acoustic-electric bass
  • Attractive all-mahogany body serves up a tonal cocktail of resonance, warmth, and sustain
  • Fretted laurel fingerboard offers stellar playability and response
  • Aquila Thunderblack strings assure superior intonation, great feel, and powerful sound
  • Graph Tech NuBone nut and composite bridge support tone
  • Custom black die-cast tuning machines provide stable tuning
  • U-Bass electronics deliver natural-sounding amplification
  • Built-in tuner makes tuning quick and convenient

In love with the U - bass

I'm originally an electric bassist, but found that I was slowly becoming disinterested in the instrument over time, as I have developed some wrist issues, and basically the instrument simply became too heavy for me. So I decided to purchase a U - bass, and could not be happier with my decision. It feels amazing in my hands, I love the look, weight, and most importantly, the sound of it. I dig that I can play it unplugged, and hear it at a normal volume. I also really enjoy the built in tuner. This is my first experience with the rubber strings, and I really like them. I am still familiarizing myself with the instrument, as it is a much smaller scale than what I'm used to, such as getting used to the closeness of the strings and frets. I need to work on learning to play it a bit softer, as I find myself thumping the strings a bit too hard. Lol! My only complaint, if I would even call it that, would be that perhaps I would enjoy having a pick guard on the instrument. Yes, I did find myself needing a strap, just to sit down and play though, in case anyone is wondering about that. It may be a matter of personal taste, as far as a using a strap goes. Thank you, Sweetwater.

Ladies Man

Ever since I started playing this beast, all the ladies love me. I've never felt more comfortable in my own skin with this baby in my hands. I'm untouchable. Indestructible. If I could go back in time, I would have bought this sooner.

gREAT BASS INNTIGHT SPACES

I play with the Oak ark Farmers Market Band. an every Saturday Morning Ja, Band with alot of weekly regulars and an open door to whoever joins the circle. During summers we play at the aforementioned Farmer Market but in the winter we play at the Friendly Tap, Coffeehouse, Community Room Music Venue and Music School. We play in the coffee house area which is pretty tight when we have more than 20 people and my Fender CB-60 literally was getting into the face of alot of players with its 32 inch neck. Enter the U Bass with its ultra short neck which keeps my bass headstock out of people faces. It is a good sounding bass with the added advantage that its small size makes walking on slippery ice and snow much easier than with my Fender or my Martin basses. The gig bag is very well padded and the instrument was protected even when the case fell on pavement

BIG Sound on a little body!

The first time I played my U-Bass was at a new church (1st time there). I used a wireless system and set on the front pew and no one noticed I was playing a bass. At the end of the sermon, the pastor thank me for playing. So many people came to me and said they had no idea where it was coming from. That bass played so good and I love the low tones it has. The rubber strings makes it sound like the big upright bass.
I am still playing the bass at that same church after about 6 months. Good is still bleeding us there. Thank you Sweetwater.
Music background: 48 years playing acoustic and bass
