Ladies Man
Ever since I started playing this beast, all the ladies love me. I've never felt more comfortable in my own skin with this baby in my hands. I'm untouchable. Indestructible. If I could go back in time, I would have bought this sooner.
gREAT BASS INNTIGHT SPACES
I play with the Oak ark Farmers Market Band. an every Saturday Morning Ja, Band with alot of weekly regulars and an open door to whoever joins the circle. During summers we play at the aforementioned Farmer Market but in the winter we play at the Friendly Tap, Coffeehouse, Community Room Music Venue and Music School. We play in the coffee house area which is pretty tight when we have more than 20 people and my Fender CB-60 literally was getting into the face of alot of players with its 32 inch neck. Enter the U Bass with its ultra short neck which keeps my bass headstock out of people faces. It is a good sounding bass with the added advantage that its small size makes walking on slippery ice and snow much easier than with my Fender or my Martin basses. The gig bag is very well padded and the instrument was protected even when the case fell on pavement

BIG Sound on a little body!
The first time I played my U-Bass was at a new church (1st time there). I used a wireless system and set on the front pew and no one noticed I was playing a bass. At the end of the sermon, the pastor thank me for playing. So many people came to me and said they had no idea where it was coming from. That bass played so good and I love the low tones it has. The rubber strings makes it sound like the big upright bass.
I am still playing the bass at that same church after about 6 months. Good is still bleeding us there. Thank you Sweetwater.
U-bass happy!
I played my U-bass at church one Sunday then played my Paver Foundation the next Sunday. I will take my U-bass back. I like the sound better. It has the low end sound I want AND it, also, gives the sound of the upright bass. I love that.
In love with the U - bass
I'm originally an electric bassist, but found that I was slowly becoming disinterested in the instrument over time, as I have developed some wrist issues, and basically the instrument simply became too heavy for me. So I decided to purchase a U - bass, and could not be happier with my decision. It feels amazing in my hands, I love the look, weight, and most importantly, the sound of it. I dig that I can play it unplugged, and hear it at a normal volume. I also really enjoy the built in tuner. This is my first experience with the rubber strings, and I really like them. I am still familiarizing myself with the instrument, as it is a much smaller scale than what I'm used to, such as getting used to the closeness of the strings and frets. I need to work on learning to play it a bit softer, as I find myself thumping the strings a bit too hard. Lol! My only complaint, if I would even call it that, would be that perhaps I would enjoy having a pick guard on the instrument. Yes, I did find myself needing a strap, just to sit down and play though, in case anyone is wondering about that. It may be a matter of personal taste, as far as a using a strap goes. Thank you, Sweetwater.
I love it
Uke us beautiful in its simplicity.
The tone is outstanding and the neck is so comfortable.
The only thing I would have done differently is put a strap button on the back of the neck.
U bass
I am enjoying with my u- bass guitar it's working great. Thanks
A great instrument
This little bass is amazing. It has the sound of a full-size bass, in fact it sounds like a double bass. Without seeing it, listeners just hear a big, woody thumping bass sound. When they see it, they freak out: "That's a bass?"
This model is, I think, the entry level one. It's inexpensive, so it doesn't have fancy wood or bindings, but the hardware and sound are just like the more expensive variants as far as I can tell. So, big sound, little price. It's a winner.
Kala u bass
Awesome bass a hit at church used it for Easter services
very cool
if you brought a blind person into a room to hear a uk bass ; that person would not even think of whether the bass was so small. I'm totally blown away .. the sound is perfect . I mean ; it's not a run around the stage like angus young situation; but with a strap , very comfy . the built in tuner is very handy and accurate . I tested it against my other electric tuner and found no problem . my other bass is a sg bass . guess which one is my favorite @ 67 years old ? right on sweetwater ! i received my order in 2.5 days happy happy . thank you . mark
UBASS
Small and light, with build in tuner, very easy to play, easy on the fingers and sounds great
love it
So much fun, so easy to play. It sounds great.
Lil Stunner
Okay, so I'm a novice bassist, at best. But this little guy is so much fun, I can't put it down. It is cute. Yes, I said cute. And because it is cute, it is *grossly* underestimated by any unfamiliar musician that crosses its path. My boyfriend is a well-seasoned, guitar player and he was thoroughly convinced his Fishman 30w could handle this "tiny Tim bass"... nope!
He was so impressed, he couldn't put it down! He said it was so loud, he was in absolute shock & disbelief.
He didn't care for the Thunder Black strings bec they are "too roll-y" but it's not his bass, it's mine and I love them! This is a LOT of bang for your buck. If you're on the fence, hop on over, it's super fun and no regrets!
Kala U Bass
I've played in bluegrass groups for over 25 years and thought I'd learn how to play bass and this was a way to put my toes in the water. Several of my 'bluegrass' instruments costs well over a thousand dollars, so I wasn't expecting much from a $ instrument. I was very surprised at how well built and functional this Kala was--a built in tuner, some EQ. I plug this into my monitor speaker and I, again, was very surprised at the sound. It really does sound like a stand up double bass. I would highly recommend this to anyone--beginner or advanced.
KInd of mouth hanging open suprise
This little instrument is probably the most fun you can have. Surprising how good it sounds and amazing that in this time of inflation you get a brand new fun (FUN should be in caps) instrument. A little rough on the back of the neck and one spot on the back of the body otherwise 5 stars for sure. So I'll find my fine sandpaper. It has opened my eyes so much that I will get another small bass with a longer scale length so I can rip around and not go over the frets as easily with my left hand. Crazy cool.

Kala Ubass
Great sound, fun to play. Exceeded my expectations.
Great instrument for a good price
I picked this up from a local music store (B's Music in Mt. Pleasant Michigan!) and am very pleased with it. It has a great sound and I anticipate using it a lot in the coming years. I bought it to have a pseudo upright bass sound when plugged in, and it delivered!
I have 2 complaints with the instrument.
1. The upper frets (12 and above) are not very accessible. Of course, this issue is remedied with the Scout model, or really any instrument with the cutaway on the treble side. If you don't anticipate using above the 12th fret then don't worry about it, save your money and get the nomad (this bass).
2. The built in pickup does not track the G string very well. I think that it may not be placed correctly or something. Not really sure why, but it just seems like I can't get very much sound out of the G string through my practice rig, but I will update this review if it is any better through a real amp.
Cool; small
I'm a bass/guitarist; just got; sounds ok for $, but for smaller hands-mine just fit. Also, has an active system so needs 2, 2032 batteries. Nice finish for $. Eager to see how it does long-term.
D string rattles
No matter what I tried the D string rattles something inside the body. I eliminated all possible culprits but still keeps doing it! Cannot record with it because of this. I'm so upset cause I like it very much and everything else works fine.
Quality control seems to be a problem at kala
After two defective units I decided to return it. The first time it was the tuner, the same issue as another reviewer. The tuner would stay on with no way to turn it off. The replacement came and worked perfectly for a couple days, until it started having the exact same issue as the first one. I removed the battery to turn it off and see if that would reset the electronics or something, and when I put the battery tray back in, the contacts inside bent so that the batteries no longer fit.
Other than everything above, it's so much fun to play and it sounds great. Customer support was great throughout the whole thing also.
Defective Instrument
I really wanted to like the Kala U bass. Unfortunately I tried 3 of them, and all 3 had different defects. The Nomad has a good sound, though there seemed to be a lot of finger string noise coming through the amp. It is small and cute. But the one I received had a dead G-string pickup - it had no volume or tone when played through the amp. The other strings were fine. Then the Tuner button got stuck in the ON position. Sent it back. Sweetwater customer service was great on the returns.
