Unlock the Secret to Maximum Metal Madness

After years of unrelenting axe administration, the gracious luthiers at Schecter have revealed the secret weapon of metal legend Kenny Hickey (Type O Negative, Silvertomb, Seventh Void, Danzig) in the form of the Kenny Hickey Solo-6 EX S baritone electric guitar. This guitar features a shaped mahogany body, high-speed maple/walnut neck, and a combative pickup formation, which give you all the tools necessary to touch Kenny's notorious bottom-end rhythms and vindictive harmonic screams for yourself — all at the advantage of a metal-friendly, tuned-down construction style. Impressive features include hard-wearing hardware, carbon fiber neck reinforcement, Schecter locking tuning machines, and innumerable tonal controls round off the Kenny Hickey Solo-6 EX S's heavy rock regalia. Take it from us: if you're a fan of his dark doom musicality and style, you'll find the Kenny Hickey Solo-6 EX S to be one of the most valuable additions to your 6-string arsenal.

Channel Kenny Hickey’s dark baritone temperament

Playing skills aside, Kenny Hickey relies on capable equipment to define his unique metal tone. With its smooth mahogany body and maple/walnut neck, the Solo-6 EX S is the perfect tool for the job. Its arched top and rounded contours make this axe a dream to maneuver. Likewise, a set-neck and Ultra Access neck joint ensures maximum coverage of all 24 frets. At 26.5 inches, this guitar's scale length retains its baritone namesake while providing a size that's easy for any player to handle. Topped off with specifically chosen hardware and appointments, the Kenny Hickey Solo-6 EX S is a seriously powerful metal multi-tool.

Fierce electronics offer endless bottom-end sustain

The Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB and Sustainiac combo is a coveted pickup recipe among Sweetwater's metal devotees. For starters, the bridge-position SH-4 JB is a bottom-end powerhouse, producing beefy high-gain tones with formidable, balanced mids — a voicing exemplified even further when utilized on the instrument's baritone size. The addition of the Sustainiac in the neck provides extended sonic options with exceptional balance on all frequencies, not to mention the pickup's sustain function for near-limitless sustain. With almost every metal tone accessible at the flip of a switch, it's easy to see why this baritone is Kenny's go-to.

Delve into expansive tonal experimentation

A volume, tone, and intensity knob trio is present onboard the Kenny Hickey Solo-6 EX S, but make no mistake; these aren’t the only controls that dictate this baritone’s sound. A 3-way pickup switch, a 2-way kill switch, a 2-way on/off Sustainiac switch, and a 3-way Sustainiac mode switch featuring Fundamental, Mix, and Harmonic modes provide endless sonic opportunity from dark, doomy rhythms to red-hot upper-fret squeals. At this level of sound control, dominating any stage or studio with your metal-inspired creations is a walk in the park.

Reviews

Kenny Hickey Solo-6 EX S Baritone
This guitar has been calling me for a while, and I finally decided it wasn't a fleeting moment, I was meant to play this. It's been 20 years since I last played and now I have the passion to do so again. It's fun and exciting, playing Type O Negative songs with this special guitar, I couldn't have asked for anything better.

i love his Axe
Amazing guitar
This is Kenny Hickey from Type O Negative signature guitar. Most of the forums would stroke out over the specs. They had me a bit worried as well. Rosewood fingerboard, pickup rings, tune o matic bridge and a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge. Not your go to specs for a modern metal guitar. Kenny and Jerry Cantrell played mahogany guitars with a JB in the bridge though. Two guys who definitely knew what they were doing. It sounds amazing. The sustainiac is also fun. I didn't know you could use it while the neck pickup was not on. Seemed like a lot to switch to neck, flip the sustainiac on and select mode. The different modes work on the bridge pickup though. I use it a lot more than I thought I would. It's kind of like having a effects pedal in the guitar.
The only thing I dislike are the strings. The plain third strings tension is around 22 lbs. It is absolute crap. Ernie Ball sells another set with the same strings but a wound third. I would suggest getting that. I also changed the low b to a 58. The 56 works great for type O stuff. Not quite enough tension for my taste. That's just personal though. That non wound third is crap though.
If you are a Type O fan I highly suggest this guitar. If you play metal and just want a Green guitar go for it.
