Unlock the Secret to Maximum Metal Mayhem

After years of unrelenting axe administration, the gracious luthiers at Schecter have forged yet another secret weapon of metal legend Kenny Hickey (Type O Negative, Silvertomb, Seventh Void, Danzig) in the form of the Kenny Hickey C-1 EX S baritone electric guitar. This guitar features a shaped mahogany body, a high-speed 3-piece mahogany neck, and a combative pickup formation, which give you all the tools necessary to dish out Kenny's notorious bottom-end rhythms and vindictive harmonic screams — all at the advantage of a metal-friendly, tuned-down construction style. Impressive features include hard-wearing hardware, carbon fiber neck reinforcement, Schecter locking tuning machines, and a voltaic suite of tone-shaping controls round off Kenny Hickey’s signature C-1 EX S's heavy rock regalia. Take it from us: if you're a fan of his dark doom musicality and style, you'll find the Kenny Hickey C-1 EX S to be one of the most valuable additions to your 6-string arsenal.

Channel Hickey’s dark baritone temperament

Playing skills aside, Kenny Hickey relies on capable equipment to define his unique metal tone. With its smooth mahogany body and 3-piece mahogany neck, the C-1 EX S is the perfect tool for the job. Its arched top and rounded contours make this axe a dream to maneuver. Likewise, a set-neck and Ultra Access neck joint ensures maximum coverage of all 24 frets. At 26.5 inches, this guitar's scale length retains its baritone namesake while providing a size that's easy for any player to handle. Topped off with specifically chosen hardware and appointments, the Kenny Hickey C-1 EX S is a seriously powerful metal multi-tool.

Fierce electronics offer endless bottom-end sustain

The Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB and Sustainiac combo is a coveted pickup recipe among Sweetwater's metal devotees. For starters, the bridge-position SH-4 JB is a bottom-end powerhouse, producing robust high-gain tones with formidable, balanced mids — a voicing exemplified even further when utilized on the instrument's baritone size. The addition of the Sustainiac in the neck provides extended sonic options with exceptional balance on all frequencies, not to mention the pickup's near-limitless sustain. With almost every metal tone accessible at the flip of a switch, it's easy to see why this baritone is Kenny's go-to.

Delve into expansive tonal experimentation

Volume and Tone knobs are present onboard Kenny Hickey’s C-1 EX S, but make no mistake; these aren’t the only controls that dictate this baritone’s sound. A 3-way pickup switch, a 2-way kill switch, a 2-way on/off Sustainiac switch, and a 3-way Sustainiac mode switch featuring Fundamental, Mix, and Harmonic modes provide endless sonic opportunity from dark, doomy rhythms to red-hot upper-fret squeals. At this level of sound control, dominating any stage or studio with your metal-inspired creations is a walk in the park.

  • 6-string baritone guitar adorned from head to toe in deluxe metal-worthy appointments — inspired by goth metal legend Kenny Hickey (Type O Negative, Silvertomb, Seventh Void, Danzig)

Reviews

More than green
I already own a Schecter C1 Platinum, which is a quality made mid range machine, so pulling the trigger on the Kenny Hickey C1 Baritone wasn't a difficult choice. Almost all the baritone guitars out there are black…(yawn…)black is what you want to get if you want to blend into the shadows. The green fret markers on the rosewood tie the body and headstock together perfectly. Everything is flawless on this piece! Frets are smooth and perfect with no sprouts at all. Action and intonation was spot on right out of the case.
The Seymour Duncan in the bridge the balls but also cleans up well when rolling back the volume without losing the tone qualities.
Having a Sustainiac in the neck is definitely the cherry on top!
I couldn't be happier with my choice, I highly recommend this green beast!

Great baritone for anything
I've owned the C-1 for awhile now and it's become my main guitar for any Baritone (or lower) tuning. It does Type O' Negative great but it also does everything else great.
I like the pickup voicing to not include so much bass, it ensures the signal hitting the amp doesn't become muddy.

I have one issue with the Sustaniac, I had to add a piece of foam between the main board and the wires/pots, could be a ground issue I don't know but it solved it. Without it, you would always hear a loud buzz sounding like a grounding issue.

No complaints for the playability (other than that Sustaniac issue), its comfortable to play.
