A Low-end Guitar with Monstrous Tone

Dive into the low end of electric guitars with the ESP LTD SN-1 baritone! Here you’ll find a swamp ash body, a 5-piece roasted maple/purple heart neck, and a Macassar ebony fingerboard ready to take anything you can throw their way. Engineered with a longer 27-inch scale length, the SN-1 comes equipped to flawlessly achieve any down-the-octave tone goal you can dream up, from deep and dark clean lead lines to sludgy heavy metal riffs. And it feels superb, too, coming equipped with ESP’s Thin “U” neck profile for a grip that will boost the confidence of all axe wielders. This mammoth of monster tone doles out the goods via its Fishman Fluence Modern Humbucker with ceramic magnet. Take a stab at the push-pull knob on the volume control to experiment with this humbucker's second voice!

Primed and ready for performance

The LTD SN-1 baritone is willing and able to get down to the nitty-gritty, thanks to its rock-solid ESP construction. You won’t have to worry about an adjustment period when picking up this baritone; ESP makes it easy with the comfortable backside swamp ash body contour, familiar dual cutaways, and the Thin “U” profile of its 5-piece roasted maple/purple heart neck. The LTD SN-1 baritone sets you up to obliterate chunky riffs and dark-tinted solos alike! Your fingers will also enjoy the silky smoothness of this baritone’s Macassar ebony fingerboard that sports 24 extra-jumbo stainless steel frets — did we mention it has a compound radius for precision fretting and the fretboard is scalloped from frets 17 to 24?

Cutting ceramic attack courtesy of Fishman

ESP outfitted this LTD guitar with one of the most trusted pickups in the industry: a Fishman humbucker! Packed with a ceramic magnet, the Fishman Modern humbucker in the bridge position on this baritone provides a killer tone that captures every ounce of that low-end goodness. Here you'll find cutting ceramic attack with two different voices — pull the volume knob to access the other voice. Voice one doles out modern active high output for a searing crunch with no mud. Voice two features a modern passive attack with organic tone and must-have Fluence dynamics! The LTD SN-1 is something else with this humbucker in its corner!

Impressive hardware for an unforgettable baritone

Don’t be afraid to dish it out with the ESP LTD SN-1 baritone. Your hard riffs and boisterous solos will be met with the uncompromising stability of its hardware. A bone nut, LTD locking tuners, and Hipshot 7 with string-through tailpiece keep your tuning rock solid for high-caliber performance. At a glance, Sweetwater could tell that the LTD SN-1 is anchored for sublime low-end tonal flare — so have at it!

Reviews

Less isn't more; less is better
With the SN-1, ESP is not just selling a guitar but also a concept: if you tune low but don't use the high E on a seven-string guitar, why have it? If all you do is plug the guitar and play it, why add a tone knob or a neck pickup you won't use?

That's not to say that they are signs that they cut corners; on the contrary, the guitar has a rock-solid roasted maple neck with purpleheart (so it might as well be indestructible), scalloped frets (as of this writing, it's the only six-string baritone with such specs), and unlike most LTD Deluxe models, this one comes with a bone nut (there's no reason for a guitar or bass costing four figures to come with a plastic nut, but I digress). I still got the nut swapped to a Graph Tech black TUSQ, but that's just down to preference.

All things considered, my favorite aspects about it is that it looks classy and traditional but it will play anything between fusion jazz to death metal and can be easily downtuned to hit the eight-string registers (mine is set up to G# standard and note definition and clarity are holding up without issues).

One final note: if you are cross-shopping between this one and the XJ-1, the only differences between the two (beyond aesthetics, which will likely be your deciding factor) are that the XJ-1 has 22 frets instead of the SN-1's 24 and no scalloped frets, and it has the new 3-voice Fluence pickup, although it's only wired to voice 1 and voice 3. The pickup can always be replaced, but you'll be married to the neck of whichever model you go with.
