In the years since they were first introduced, Paul Reed Smith (PRS) guitars has grown to be one of America's major guitar builders. Their commitment to crafting incredibly high-quality music gear has made them the go-to instruments for countless musicians around the world.
When Paul Smith started building his first guitars, many of the instruments being manufactured in the United States weren't up to the quality they had once been. This created a perfect opportunity for Smith to reinvigorate the industry with his top-quality, American-made instruments. From the get-go, artists like Al Di Meola, Ted Nugent, and Carlos Santana quickly swept up their own PRSs and the company we know today was born. Leveraging his success, through the late '80s and early '90s Smith's factory went about releasing the first production PRS Custom 24 and Custom 22s. These models changed the guitar world with the way they elegantly blended the feel and tones of the great humbucker and single-coil-equipped electric guitars that players had been relying on for years. This made guitars such as the Custom line and Standard 24 and 22 some of the most popular gigging and recording guitars of the time. Before long Smith struck up a relationship with former Gibson executive Ted McCarty. McCarty taught Smith all about what made the classic 1950s PAF humbuckers so desirable, why each tonewood was chosen, and more. Smith then used this valuable insight to further improve his designs, and even built a McCarty model in honor of his new mentor. Throughout PRS's history the company has balanced the line of pushing boundaries and maintaining a deep respect for the classic instruments and designs. This is why so many players choose Paul Reed Smith guitars as their main instruments. Guitarists like Carlos Santana, Mark Tremonti, and Dave Navarro are all die-hard devotees of the brand and have been for decades, and each has been rewarded with top-shelf and PRS SE import versions of their own signature models. Today Paul Reed Smith has branched out with the introduction of a wide variety of guitar-based products, including the Kestrel and Kingfisher electric bass guitars, the Archon and HXDA electric guitar tube amplifiers, the Angelus acoustic guitars, and many, many more. PRS even introduced the incredibly popular S2 line that offers US-made quality at a more affordable price point. The S2 series is comprised of famous PRS models like the Mira, Vela, and Singlecut, and are available as solidbody or semi-hollow. Through all of these endeavors, PRS maintains their commitment to quality and continues to introduce products that pay homage to the past while fearlessly pushing into the future. |
