Spectacular software additions

The ADJ myDMX 5 brings together an impressive feature set curated to complete stunning lighting looks. A Super Scene function allows users to combine different scenes on the timelines of a Super Scene for complex yet precisely timed scenes. There’s a 3D visualizer, and users can also map effects in 2D on any type of channel. On a Super Scene timeline, an unlimited number of effects can be combined. Next, a live mixer function allows for real-time adjustment of strobes, dimmers, colors, and more.

Adding to that, a live playback feature with live rotary encoders allows for control of dimmer, speed, phase shift, and size. Users can play scenes forward, backward, or both. The myDMX 5 makes it easy to sync music to the show with tap tempo, MIDI clock, or Ableton Link. When using the dmDMX 5 with a touchscreen, users can easily create a custom layout. First, Alex Campos, who has been my Sweetwater rep for years, is a professional and knowledgeable agent who always goes the extra mile to insure that our needs are met.

Secondly, we are a media education and service nonprofit wherein we have a program that trains neuro-diverse (autistic) individuals in various media technologies: video, audio, photography, web, etc. - we needed an easy solution as we train them to operate our theatrical studio lighting during audio/video recording of musical performances.

I had used ADJ MyDMX years ago which included software and a single channel usb-to-3 pin DMX adapter. However, the laptop with the licensed software was stolen.

For the lack of funds, I installed QLC+, a free open-source, positively reviewed software on an inexpensive refurbished Win10 PC using an ENTEC usb-to-DMX adapter requiring a separate 5pin to 3pin DMX adapter. While software is robust with many available tutorials, I couldn't find a manual, there is no support from the company that I know of. Perhaps it does exist. Many of the profiles for our 32 DMX fixtures were not in the library. I couldn't find them online and would have to build them myself without having necessary technical details about the fixture.

The adage "You get what you pay for" applies with ADJ MyDMX5. With this solution, ADJ provides fantastic, responsive PHONE support - not in China or Southeast Asia but good old USA! I could actually talk to somebody - no email back and forth besides the downloadable manual. I found all my fixtures in the library. ADJ says that they would build profiles if I needed them. The software is relatively easy to use.

The programmable touch buttons are a great feature for our interns, though some are quite capable of using the software, At the advice of ADJ support, we purchased an AKAI mini controller which has pads and faders further extending hardware control through MIDI mapping

We are still in the process of setting up scenes and testing the system. So far, so good.

This is the most intuitive lighting software I've ever seen! If you are familiar with MS Windows common tasks with a mouse, this product uses all of them. Once you load all of your lights and equipment into the software, it's easy to arrange them into a visual display that exactly matches your physical layout. Programming scenes is logical, and the process is laid out well. Adding a MIDI board and programming it is very easy.
