Reviews

Mesa Boogie Conversion
I've purchased these replaced a Celestion's and the rectifier twin 12 cabinet and I am so happy that I did paired with the Mark two C+ John, Petrucci 60 x 100 amp these EVS are the heart of American metal these things shred!
Music background: Multi talented, bass guitar drums, lead, and rhythm
Great speaker but make sure it matches your style.
I have three of the USA made versions of the EVM12L black label speaker. Two are in a 2x12 ported cab, the other is in a Rivera Silent Sister. They are, as expected, an almost indestructible, beefy and powerful speaker. Unless you plug them into a bass amp you will not blow them.

I also have a few EVM 12Ls from over the years: an 1980s OEM, a 1990s OEM, and a USA-made Classic model. They all sound quite different, with the 1980s being the most midrangey of the bunch. The black labels are very different from the classic and the OEMs. They are more scooped in comparison. They have a little less in the low mids, and more high mid and high treble. This makes them well suited for heavy distortion and hard rock, but I find they do not sound as good with a Fender or Dumble style amp.

Andy Fuchs is of the opinion that the black labels aren't good speakers for warm, clean sounds. I think there is a lot of truth to this comment. If you are after a fairly cold Marshall style clean these might work. If you are after a fender style clean then you are better off with the classic version. For hard rock and metal, however, these are absolute killer speakers. Good low end, lots of higher end sizzle, etc. I'd like to hear them in a 4x12. They might also pair well with a warmer cast-frame speaker like an SRO, Eminence EM12, etc.
